Susan Boyle Hated By Media

A month ago we couldn’t get enough of this new ‘hero’ Susan Boyle – a woman who shocked the nation by not being an anorexic twig draped in the latest Topshop fashion yet still housing an epic voice deep in her lungs.

However, over the past week or so, people have started to take aim at Su-Bo, with the British media claiming she’s quitting the show / having a mental breakdown / becoming a diva… all manner of tittle tattle to bring a cloud over what should be a momentous moment for British music.

Don’t get me wrong, when I saw Susan for the first time I did think she was going to be rubbish, but her performance has only gone to prove that we really shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover and assume that to be successful in the music business we should all look like Cheryl Cole and her band of girls.

I’d decided to keep out of the whole thing and let the public decide on Saturday night, but after seeing a ‘debate’ on the website of a leading British newspaper saying; “Look at that singer. You gotta be kidding me! The last time Demi [Moore - a Su-Bo Supporter] saw hair like Susan’s, it was in Tina Turner’s armpit…. For at best, Susan Boyle is a good-to-very-good music theatre singer. In her first audition, her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables was terrific. This week’s performance of Memory from Cats? Rather less so. She is clearly a nice person -someone who has struggled all her life with learning difficulties – but she is not exactly Maria Callas.”

It then goes on to take a very personal attack on Susan; “And to be frank, the basis of her global fame is rooted in the fact that she is homely and plain, rather than glamorous and alluring. This is so patronising and invidious, particularly as the only person who does not realise this is poor Susan Boyle herself”

They also have a rather uncalled for pop at Amanda Holden when they comment on Amanda’s praise of Su-Bo; “ ‘This one little woman, from a tiny village in Scotland,’ said condescending judge Amanda Holden, who was wrong on both counts. Susan, in fact, is a big woman from a small town. Get it right, you star-spangled midget.”

The real clanger comes when the author discusses how much she hates the people involved in BGT, saying; “When the final BGT show is over, these rich, sophisticated people will climb back into their limousines, put the pedal to the metal and high-tail it back to the comfort of their well ordered lives, leaving scraggly Susan Boyle to her hairy fate. Yet how will it all end? Win or lose, what has become increasingly obvious is that Susan Boyle’s helter skelter journey down the flume of fame is going to have a very watery end. Whatever happens, it will end badly – and in tears.”

Personally I think these comments are 100% uncalled for from a publication who are supposed to be very supportive of women, and champion them making a name for themselves in such a male-dominated world… Susan Boyle might not be in FHM’s Top 100 Sexiest Women, and she might not have grasped how to deal with the media just yet, but let’s bear in mind, this woman has an incredible talent, and she is a ray of light in a time where the world looks so grey.

We’ve got your back Susan Boyle, we think you’re awesome.

About Ruth

Word up! I am the music editor at FemaleFirst.co.uk. My favourite bands are Nightwish, Biffy Clyro and A Day To Remember. I do have rather biglove for the Now Thats What I Call Music CD's though. Katie Price annoys me but I love how she's made a name for herself by being annoying. That takes some work.

How horribly cruel people can be, Susan is an inspiration to a lot of people and has given us a real feel good feeling, why would anyone want to hurt her, all she did was enter a competition, I doubt she had any idea that she would brab the world’s attention.

    You go Susan!!

Whilst I do not endorse negative comments about anyone, I do not believe Susan Boyle’s talent is that great. Sadly, it is seen as good simply BECAUSE she does not fit the visual model.

British people generally do not like highly successful people.

    The Americans simply adore her!!!

Envious comments are made, simply i think is jealousy.

Susan Boyle sings like a bird she is also unique which is why she has taken the world by storm–much to her own surprise.
It just goes to show that many people are tired of talentless people prancing around their TV screens half naked.
    Good Luck Susan!

Unfortunate about the bad press, but isn’t that how it usually goes in show biz…good or bad it’s all good in the end. My thoughts are the producers of the show have cashed in on her two months of fame boosting their ratings over the top and bringing world wide attention to BGT. I’d like to know the story behind that? Well let’s hope Boyle gets something great out of it – she deserves it.

Susan, you don’t have to listen to anyone but yourself, all you have to do is sing.I hope you sing a Scottish song on your first album. I’m sure you have some favourites. You have a beautiful expressive face when you sing. I would rather listen to you talking about your cat , than those ‘think they’re beautiful woman’ talking about themselves.

Susan Boyle has an amazing voice. I live far away from Britan, but when I started the video on youtube I was wondering why people are underestimating her. Little did I know the ‘method of dressing up and staying Sexy’ in BGT. All I gotta say is, People even discussing about ‘how sexy you look’ or ‘she’s not fit to be on TV’ are simply wasting their time. Susan has a gift. God’s gift. Instead of actually seeing the bright side, which could have endless possibilities, people love to find out some piece of crap and dress it up like a reality. People of UK, If u think Susan is ugly, go to Mongolia, or Africa. At the end of the day, we are all HUMANS. Learn to appreciate.
    Peace
