Ruth’s Download Festival Diary June 11, 2009
Posted by Ruth in : Music, Ruth's Ramblings , add a commentWell, boys and girls, I don’t really know how to start this, but I guess I’ll just write down what’s going on…
Tonight I am going to set off for my first ever festival experience at Download 2009 for the weekend. Okay, so staying in a tent might not count as getting th whole ‘experience’ but I’m making baby steps.
I be honest, the idea of spending three days stood up in a muddy field has never really appealed to me, but in the name of music journalist – and because I love most of the bands playing – I have decided to bite the bullet and make my first trip to download festival! Woo!
Now, I’m only going to be internet-able when I get to my hotel at night, but I shall be texting in regular updates to tell you what I’ve been up to, and so far I’ve packed my suitcase, but I seem to have hit a hurdle in the fact that I have way too many bags, shoes and sunglasses to take, and that’s before I’ve packed my essential make up kit, toiletries, sun cream etc… and don’t even mention the wellies – they’re a lost cause.
So, after finding my only ‘proper’ coat doesn’t fit me anymore – because I bought it when I was 16, and size 10 and had no boobs – I had to beg my housemate to lend me her £60, dead posh coat. But at least it will keep me warm, and dry… hum, maybe I shouldn’t have packed three pairs of sunnies?
But, looking forward, I’m so excited to finally see Slipknot and Marilyn Manson live, as well as my favourite band A Day To Remember and the up and coming folk such as You Me At Six, In This Moment and The Blackout.
I’ll also be doing loads of interviews whilst I’m down there, so don’t worry if you can’t make it, because I’ll ask all my new celeb best mates the questions you want to hear and tell you all about it on Monday. Plus FemaleFirst’s incredible photographer Andy Squire (www.flickr.com/acidtoast) will be there too, getting some of the most amazing live shots you’ve ever seen in your life… and guiding me through this whole festival process!
How many of you car coming down then? I want to meet you all! If you’re coming, drop me a line at bands@femalefirst.co.uk and we’ll grab a beer *ahem* obviously it will be water for me.

Max Drummey Supports “Hurting Women” June 11, 2009
Posted by Ruth in : Music, Ruth's Ramblings , add a commentI was just reading an article in the Daily Mirror, and I was quite surprised to see that Max Drummey (that bloke that was married to Peaches Geldof for about five minutes a few months ago) has been chatting about current affairs.
Okay, so the topic was the Chris Brown / Rihanna assault case and not Global Politics, but the result was just as shocking when he decided to say how good it was that men were finally hurting women.
Just so that you don’t think I’ve taken his statement totally out of context, here is what the indie kids has said; “We’re guys [Myself and Chris Brown] who have been hurt by women and I’m glad people like Chris Brown are finally taking it back and hurting women.”
Now, whether hurting is meant in the emotional sense I don’t know, but a statement like that in the middle of a trial for assault is loaded with inference on Max’s part. But then again, he is desperate for any publicity, his fake marriage to Peaches Geldof proved that.
Can someone please tell my why men feel they can act like this in today’s society?

Mickey Rourke In Iron Man 2 June 11, 2009
Posted by Helen in : Movies , add a commentTo say that mickey Rourke has had a good 2009 would be a little bit of an understatement having rebuilt his career with his outstanding performance in The Wrestler.
Off the back of The Wrestler Rourke has seen the work come flooding and will appear in the likes of The Expendables next year.
However the actor is currently filming Iron Man 2 with Robert Downey Ji in the role of Whiplash.

Adam Lambert’s Rolling Stone Cover & Homophobic Backlash June 11, 2009
Posted by Ruth in : Music, Ruth's Ramblings , 3commentsWhy is it that I always end up having a crush on the gay ones? First it was Stephen Gately from Boyzone, then Mark from Westlife and now Adam Lambert has only gone and ‘come out’ too.
Ever since I first saw him on American Idol I thought he was the hottest bloke on there, I mean I like boys with a edgy, ‘rock star’ look about them, and a dash of guy liner doesn’t go a miss either.
So, he was my favourite, I was backing him, I was hoping we were going to hit it off just like myself and David Archuleta did so that I and all his fans would join up in a big ball of love for Adam… but no. This makes my face do a sad expression.

Either way though, I still love his voice and I wish he’d won the show because he had far more charisma that Kris Allen, but you know what has really angered me since he told Rolling Stone he was a homosexual? The fact that so many people are commenting on the fact that he’s gay and that’s why he didn’t win the show.
Well, excuse me, but Will young won the first ever series of Pop Idol over here in the UK, and he was as camp as Christmas, and who are we to say that a person’s sexuality should govern whether or not they are talented? Take Perez Hilton, Rock Hudson and Freddie Mercury for example, three people at the top of their chosen career, and all gay.
We’ve had comments on the article that I wrote yesterday ( http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/music/popmusic/Adam+Lambert+Im+Gay-8573.html) which were just too offensive to print and we had to remove from the site after people inferred that Adam shouldn’t be allowed on television shows which children might watch because of the ‘influence’ he might have over them.
I fully understand that the US is a very religious country, and the bible doesn’t look favourably on homosexuality, but surely any person with God in their heart, wouldn’t be able to say such spiteful things about such a talented human being.
All I have to say is the USA also condones the Death Penalty, and that doesn’t follow the commandment of “Thou shall not kill.”

Possibly the worst kept secret in TV history is finally out, in more ways than one… yes ladies and gentlemen, Adam Lambert has confirmed that he’s gay. Why, oh why is it always the most gorgeous men? Oh well, there’s always my little David Archuleta.
Liam and Noel Gallagher are a pair who are never fair from a war of words, and this time it’s a poor old journalist who have come up against the foul-mouthed siblings. Tut, Mrs Gallagher must be oh, so proud.
As if music couldn’t get any cheesier at the moment, it looks like Aqua are surfing back into the charts after scoring another number one. Although, the news that they’re going to release a greatest hits is slightly baffling, as i thought they only had one ‘hit.’
Rachel Stevens has been left reeling after she was robbed of her jewellery by three men who followed her into her flat in north London. We hope she feels better soon, but it just goes to show, Mayfair might be expensive on Monopoly, but it can’t always buy you safety.
With the likes of Coraline, Mosters vs Aliens and My Bloody Valentine 3-D just some of the 3-D movies that have graced the big screen in recent months is three dimensional film the way forward? But it seems that the likes of Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg are all jumping on preverbal bandwagon so how long is it going to be until traditional filmmaking disappears?
Finally, if you’re a fan of Big Brother you can find all the gossip from the housemates locked inside Big Brother 10 on FemaleFirst – and trust me, we tell you how it really is.
