Janet Jackson might have lost her brother earlier this year, and whilst we do feel very sorry for her, the vow to wear only black for an entire year does seem somewhat extreme.
Michael Jackson passed away in June, and despite a rather lengthy to-do about his funeral, he was finally laid to rest last month. However, that doesn’t appear to be enough of the closure for Janet, and now the singer has reportedly said that she will only wear black clothing for a full year.
A source told The Sun: “Janet, like the rest of the Jackson family, has been left bereft by Michael’s passing. She felt a particular bond to her brother and has been distraught since his death.

“As a mark of respect she has decided to only wear black clothes to express her grief, and she has had to go on a number of shopping trips to find suitable items to wear. She has resolved to mourn Michael’s death for 12 months, and in June next year – on the anniversary of Michael’s passing – her time of reflection will come to an end.”
We know people come to terms with death in their own way, but wearing black for 365 days? Come on Janet, it’s time for the world to start moving on now… you’re welcome to mourn in your own way, but if you want to go shopping for new outfits, don’t just resign yourself to black. Or noir.
Elsewhere though, the rest of the Jackson clan seem to be dealing with the passing in their very own special ways, with La Toya recently claimed that she has received messages from Michael since he passed away.

C’mon, it’s her brother. Maybe you don’t like your brother or sister and fight with them and hate them to your gut but not Janet. Obviously, she was very close to him and loved him very much and he meant a lot to her. That was her bloodline. They shared a lot in common. They grew up together. She looked up to him and he was her idol like the rest of the world. Only difference is that she was actually related to him. So, when he died, it’s kind of like a part of her died too considering they are related. I don’t think it’s ridiculous that she wears black clothing for a year. I think it is very touching. Of course it might sound ridiculous to someone else that didn’t know him personally and only knew him as an entertainer. Not me. I know what it’s like to lose someone very special to you. More than one actually. It’s not a fun thing.
I am very keen on Janet Jackson and her leaving the music business will definitely be a sad loss. Their family has made a tremendous impact on music from ever since I can recall.
