So, Michael Jackson has had a public memorial service at the Staples Center and a private funeral at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California… and now it looks like we’re milking his death even more – this time by putting on a concert in Vienna.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for remembering the King Of Pop, but really, can’t we remember his CD’s and music videos? Why do people think that we – the fans – want to watch a load of celebs singing his songs and trying to moonwalk?
What’s more, they’re only bringing in shamed R n B star Chris Brown for the event too… great, so we’re trying to forget Michael might have had a couple of run-in’s with the law, but who cares, lets bring in a bloke who’s got five years probation after assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brilliant.
But standing up alongside Mr Brown on September 26 will be Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge as well as 13 other acts… Sister Sledge?! I mean, come on, we can never replicate the tributes by Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Lionel Richie.
It seems to me that these ‘tributes’ are just going on for the sake of it now, we’re all mourning his loss, but we can’t bring him back, and isn’t it better to remember Michael’s music rather than pay to go and have the pain of our loss dragged up again?
Organizers are billing the event as the main global tribute to Jackson, who died June 25 in Los Angeles, but I think that that could have been the memorial… or maybe the funeral? Or maybe one of the hundreds of Facebook groups…. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Ruth x

I agree with you Ruth X. I think Jermaine is seriously mourning Mike’s death which is understandable. However,it would be better like you said to remember him through his CD’s and videos instead of listening to others try and sing his songs and make a desperate attempt to moonwalk. Sister Sledge????? Come on now!!!!!
its been planed way before the funeral!..the family knows his fans can’t really can’t say goodbye to michael..they want to have a huge tribute for him..and theres nothing wrong with that. the family did the staple center thing because of the fans. nobody payed to get in. they just gave out tickets. and even though theres been like millions of tributes for him all around the world…the FAMILY didn’t do a TRIBUTE for him..now they ARE..they’re giving the money to charity just like he would have probably done anyways. michael deserves it so get over it.
Agree ! It would be interesting to know where the profits are going to – forgive me if this had been said somewhere. What MJ would have want all profits to go to disadvantage children, let’s see.
Did you notice how news stopped after He was entombed ?
yeah…how can you call it a tribute when you are just using the name of someone who just passed to get people to see you. The best tribute they could do is clear MJ’s name for God’s sake—it’s not that hard to do! Why would I pay to see another artist sing his songs when I can just put on his DVD’s on the player and see the man himself in action!
I think they’re nothing but gold-diggers, especially his own family who are the worst of all.
Michael Jackson giving 45 years of his life to music and dance and entertainment and breaking and setting records across the board, being the most recognizable name and image in the WORLD . . . is going to have continued tributes forever . . . http://voices.mysanantonio.com/marianhaddad/2009/09/michael-jackson-in-the-words-o.html
PLEASE PERUSE THE END OF THIS ARTICLE WHERE ALL HIS GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS mentions are.
I understand no one can even come close to MJ doing MJ’s music. With that, I totally agree . . . but we will be seeing generations to come honoring him. There’s a reason. Study his work. You’ll be continually impressed and surprised. I thought I knew a lot about it, having lived it . . .as you have . . . but what amazed me, after 2-plus months of research, is that we, as a public, didn’t realize the gargantuan gift we were among. It is not hyperbolic to say Michael Jackson’s music, dance, video and concert successes will NEVER be forgotten. He’s up there with Beethoven and Bach and Mozart, as in brilliance and enduring interest, I would bet on . . . I encourage those who appreciate him “to a degree”, even a “high degree” . . . look more closely . . . continual surprises about his prolific tendencies in songwriter and his large art spirit. I for one, am planning my evening around watching the event, along with much of the world. Frankly, I love Sister Sledge . . . Natalie Cole . . . that’s something.
It is also a benefit to raise money for children’s orginazations. When the memorial is being televised you will be able to call in and make a donation to help several orginaztions. I think its a very fitting and appropriate way to remember MJ but also to help children and others that are less fortunate than we are.
In regard to Chris Brown being there. Yes, he has made mistakes and he too is only human. The reason he has been invited is because of the work they have done together is what Jermaine had quoted and that MJ and Chris Brown both idolized each other. I think that Jermaine has the lineup of “stars” that will be there because these people were either in MJs life at one time by working together or some sort of friendship. This is what he said on the Larry King show when he was interviewed. He is just not asking “anybody” to participate. These are people that have had an impact in MJ’s life at one time or another.
In regard to have we had enough? Yes, maybe a lot of people have but remember when Elvis passed away? It was just like this with MJs passing. I am sure that after this concert is over this will be “The final curtain call”. God Bless you Michael and may you now rest in peace. God knew you could take no more and took you home.
OH!!!!!!!!
This is at the top of the Michael Jackson Google search.
JERMAINE??????????
DO NOT let Chris Brown perform in Vienna!!!!!
He admitted to beating the crap out of a woman.
Don’t include violent criminals in a family tribute located where “The Sound of Music’ was filmed.
Would that movie be a lkifetime classic if the father was beating up his kids and the sons were beating up their sisters, then growing up and beating up every woman they screw.
I thought Jermaine was puttig this together.
Must have been Randy’s idea to invite a man who beats the shit out of his girl.
Is O.J. on Randy’s invite list too?
This isn’t about black power.
It’s about Michael.
Keep the “criminal get togethers” in Harlem, NY.
what an insalt and disrespect to michael. chris brown to sing his songs….. my god can they make this anymore painfull for us…the fans ? ruth you are so right and thankyou for what you said. ther is noway we are whtching that cicious.
I totally agree with Ruth. Instead of listening to what other people has to say about Michael Jackson (ie. tribute magazines, news articles) or how other would have interpret his songs (ie. tribute concerts), I have resorted to listening to his CD’s, watching his music/concert videos on DVDs, and watching his interviews available on YouTube. I rather let him speak for himself through his songs and words. I really wish Jermaine hasn’t tried to put together this thing in such a hurry.
I absolutely agree with you. I’m all for paying tribute to MJ, he did after all impact the industry and the world to an extent we’ll never fully know to appreciate. But I do not believe for a minute that anyone is participating in these tributes solely to pay respects. Most if not all are taking advantage of the attention media is giving the death of MJ and his family in mourning. Jermaine and LaToya have especially dominated primetime TV to promote themselves and no doubt Joe Jackson who was always hitting up Michael for loans when he was alive will milk his worth even in death. It’s almost too sinister even for him. I think Chris Brown is a true Jackson fan but he should have enough respect for the man and his legacy not to affiliate his current image with all the genuine bereavement family and fans are experiencing. I have to believe he, too, is hoping to win something back by partaking in these ongoing tributes. Michael’s closest friends have notably kept themselves out of the public eye to preserve his memory.
who the hell is Sister Sledge???
is to good jackson
so… so what. You jealous. If it were up to me he’d have some kind of tribute daily. Shoot if only i could go back in time and lead him to Christ or talk him out of propofol.
later
we do not want to see any one desecrate Michael’s work! the best people to do a show are top class impersonators. And I do mean top class! They who have studied him and loved him and his work their whole lives.
Look at the travesty with the BET awards that was turned into a tribute…what a crap show that was! did it at all do justice to a man like Michael-a man with so much class, so much style, grace, love, gentleness, astounding talent and mind blowing moves! unless you can offer the best DON’T DO ANY SO CALLED TRIBUTE!
I really do not care to see or hear anyone except Michael!
he is irreplaceable in everyway, in fact it gets me upset and angry that ppl are doing ‘tributes’ to Michael, with abusers, half naked women, cussing on the programme, half baked attempt at the moonwalk and pluggin their own tour to boot! So in bad taste!
Try and learn something from the KING you guys..look at what Michael did when HIS idols passed.and when he had to do something for a tribute..only class from that man in every way…I cannot say enough of how much one can learn ‘how to be a human being’ from Michael Jackson!
Michael we love you and miss you forever!
You are wrong. The tribute plans began before MJ was buried. For us who have been fans of MJ for the last 40 years, the mourning will take a little longer than just a couple months. The tribute allows us to move from his death to his music to the next generation modernizing his music. The same goes for the This is It movie that comes out soon. These are all transitions from his death to his legacy. These tributes and movie allow us to move onto how we will remember MJ and help us formulate that memory. His family through the memorial and the tribute give us something to focus upon.
The media loves to trash talk the Jackson. And article is no different. Always having an opinion about what they are doing, but being so negative without ever seeing the good is just tabloid journalism.
Michael mines alot to me and god will forgive all his sins.
Could not agree more!!! And Chris Brown??!!! Geewizzz….
Michael Jackson has been a ‘friend of mine’ through his music since i was 7 and yes we all would love to remember him for his music and amazing video clips, though I have noticed that young kids (the same age i was, even younger) wont stop listening too his music. For them too see this event and witness other artists out there performing his music, just might expand their music mind and listen to other classic artists they might not have heard of. Im all for it!
I agree with both of you (Ruth X and Elyria). I think we should remember MJ through his music and his videos. Also remember him for being the humanitarian he was. It is now time to leave him alone.
hi……..
thes is martin from delhi
i trabute to michael jakson bicuse he the man of king of pop , i naver forget thse king
give the soul in rest in peace
i love you michael jackson
it’s his brother come on mike would love this
I seriously agree with you Ruth as i can see that people are taking an advantage of his death and wanna become more popoular and earn name and fame on his name, it is a great loss to the music industry and to every one who loved him, but by doing this concerts it is just like making your fortune that is it. This is not michael what wanted instead give it to the charities the way micheal did, no they wont do that, instead interested to make a lot on it. Shame on you people whoever is doing this…….when he was alive no one was bother about him but now people are showing some extra sympathy to cash it,,,,,,,this world will never change…….that is why michael told “anything for money, will die for you, will sell my soul to the devil…….keep up jermaine and others, you people met the michael’s expectations…..great..
Miss u MJ!
Wow I’m a big MJ fan but I have to agree totally with this article… This show is just another way to try to make some money off the death of someone who, even in death, will eclipse the success of everyone that’s headlining this tribute. I thought the Staples Center tribute and the movie that’s coming out in October would be more than enough. And I hate the fact that people have actually compared Chris Brown to him. Has anyone heard that kid’s voice? He can’t sing, his dancing isn’t anything special, he’s only been around for a few years and appeals primarily to little teeny bopper girls… I think MJs appeal, even as a child, was much broader than that. The beating of Rihanna thing has been played to death but let’s not forget that. If the people organizing this thing as well as the performers really want to pay tribute to the King of Pop, they should donate every penny made off of this to various charities.
His family is milking on him as hard as they can. His brothers gave interviews to tabloids telling what make-up and wig would be on Michael in the coffin and it’s disgusting. They made a show of the private funeral and then blaimed the madia for intrusion into privacy. Why the hell did you announce the date and exact time then? Joe was even laughing at the funeral of his late son.
Of course, the ones responsible for Michael’s death are the media, 2 little creeps with their idiotic parents and unfortunately his family, who even don’t try to hide that he worth more dead, than alive.
Good that Michael doesn’t see all this circus now.
Good that we have at least his musical and video legacy.
The media and other haters have started persecuting CHris Brown just like they did Michael.I don’t support what he did but everyone makes mistakes. He will learn from this but what about Rihana? What role did she play in the whole saga.
Who the hell is sister sledge??!?! Whats happened to Beyonce, usher, ne-yo etc?
Its going to be a shambles in my eyes, just like the BET awards were
Mike just needs to be left alone, let the world mourne in our own way by listning to his music and remembering the good times when he was alive
Still so terribly sad over the loss of our beloved MJ and think it’s a wonderful idea – can’t wait to watch the tribute concert live. I remember the tribute concert in London for Freddy Mercury after his death, where various artists sang with Queen and George Michael blew the audience away singing “Somebody To Love” (look it up on youtube, awesome crowd!) This tribute concert for Michael in an exquisite setting befitting the sheer CLASS & STYLE of our MJ will also be preserved for eternity and we may all be surprised by the performances. We all know no-one can ever take Michael’s place or even come close to his brilliance on stage. His singing, dancing, sexual energy & charisma has never been matched, and we’ll certainly never see his like again in our lifetime. Everyone acknowledges that. But for his legion of fans around the world, we are still feeling bereft without him amongst us, so surely watching this concert, performed with love and respect for MJ, will help us all with the healing process en masse. Bring it on!
tributes to michael will go on for decades (look at elvis)i – as a massive fan- cannot wait to see the concert. i welcome it. i also welcome chris brown who will pay a wonderful tribute to michael with his dancing skills. i wish everyone would quit with the negativity. has it crossed anyones mind that this focus is helping jermaine cope with his grief.the movie and the tribute concert will help me deal with mine.
michael jackson would love the love that people are feeling for his lifetime of genius.
My advice to Ruth – you do not like do not watch… But it seems you and someone else become jealous that evend dead Michael Jackson gets more viewers than other singers alive. Even if they were once a part of big bands like Beatles… May be the sold out tickets speaks for themselves. And you can continue paint MJ and his supporters in black colours, if this helps you to survive their success. Bot MJ was equited of any accusations, so stop bringing it up…
RIP MICHAEL JACKSON U ARE THE KING
he was the best of all times
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH…..it’s like honestly you read my mind….i can never understand why people will want to go to a concert of other people singing Michael Jackson song’s when you will always know it has been done so much better by MJ himself! This is ridicolous the memorial and funeral was dignified now this is a blatantly obvious money making scheme or watever it is, they are rubbish!
I have still not overcome his untimely death. Remember only a fraction of his fans were allowed to mourn at the public Memorial Service, leaving the rest us of without psychological treatment. HEAL THE WORLD! AND LET THE CONCERT BE!!!
thax mj about every thing u did for us and to say u were the best of the best still miss uuuuuuuuuu<3
it’s nothing but to make money for themselves the JACKSONS, It’s not a wonder anyway they are living up to their reputation
I totally agree with u Ruth x. It is so true . People are just using his name to make their own profits and to be famous. It will be much better if we just listen to his CDs and watch his videos. What’s the use of listening to other celebs singing his songs?
Don’t think that Jermaine is feeling grief so much as guilt. He, and his siblings, should’ve been there for Michael BEFORE he died. Michael was obviously in need of their help and love but they, as usual, were too busy being wrapped up in themselves. RIP Michael Jackson. Greatly loved and very greatly missed. Always. Gone way too soon…
This tribute is nothing more than wringing extra money from the King of Pop…there is too much tribute. In a week or so Tito and Randy will have their own tribute in Vegas.
The list of performers are no A listers, save maybe for Blige. This was organized by Jermaine and Mrs. Larry King (but she backed out later-wonder why) well, the Jacksons know that eventually people will mourn Michael in private and the money will stop coming in again….so…strike while the iron is hot!!! Like MJ, I’m tired of his family.
I don’t want another tribute. The only thing they could do is make a video on the best performances of MJ. I have loved him my whole life we were the same age. My love for him was with him in his darkest hour I have always believed in him. I am still in disbelief that I will never see him perform in life again. I don’t want to see other people trying to moonwalk or sing his song it is not the same.
I have mixed feelings on this. As a fan of Michael Jackson, I’m happy to celebrate his life, music and contributions in any way deemed respectful. However, I do feel that even in his death he continues to be taken advantage of by others, including members of his family.
My frustration with this event is, as Jermaine announced on Larry King Live, the charities are those Jermaine & Larry’s wife support. They are not Michael’s Charities. And though I’m sure Michael would be happy for any proceeds to go to to charity, I feel it would be more appropriate for “Heal The World” and like MJ Charities to receive the funds.
With respect to Chris Brown, it has been said he supported Michael during his trial and hence this is a chance for the Jacksons to give back. I do hope his intentions are honorable .. but I’m doubtful.
I will watch with an open mind and pay tribute to Michael in my own way. The best way, I think, is to be a good person and treat others with respect.
I LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON!!!
I WILL REMEMBER HIM ANYWAY,,,,Hes always IN MY HEART..
This tribute is NOT being put on by his family. It’s the “Jermaine Jackson Tribute Show”….it’s all about him and not about our beloved MJ. No one from the Jackson family will even be participating in this.
Oh, and on another note…I heard they are wanting to get the Jackson 5 back together….WTF? How can you have a Jackson 5 comeback w/out MJ? Uh, you can’t. They need to move on and if they want to get together, they need to call the group something else and do new music.
so wot… stop moanin, if u dun lyk it lump it!
i cant wait 4 it, there will be tributes to michael jackson 4 years to come so u better deal with it! n tha muny raised frm the concert is goin 2 charities!
you guys for once are right ! I do wished his family my prayer and love . he will always live in my heart. i do agree on the fact that they should make a whole movie on his life and music career
michael to me was like a father i never had and i
miss him very much .when i am not in the mood to talk or happy , i WOULD LISTENED TO HIS MUSIC
well didnt we have a tribute concert for freddie mercury when he died!! so why cant we have one for MJ, even if the money is for him it will be going to his kids and charities!!!
