Well, I almost chocked on my coffee when I heard that Chef Gino D’Acampo and ex-Hollyoaker Stuart Manning had gotten into trouble for killing and cooking a rat on I’m A Celebrity – I mean let’s be honest, they were starving!
First of all, shouldn’t ITV be to blame, considering they let a tame rat just wander into the camp, knowing full-well that the hungry campers would probably see it as a the closest thing to a nice slab of meat they were going to be getting any time soon?
And secondly, why are they Aussies making such a big fuss about them killing and cooking a rat when they allow people to eat live bugs, fried flies and kangaroo testicles on TV? I mean surely that’s little bit hypocritical if they’re banging on about animal rights and whatnot – does that have more right to live that all those flies and bugs or something? I think not.
Let’s face it, Gino killed a rat because the camp were hungry, he didn’t do it for show, as a chef he see’s meat and meat, plain and simple, and to say they were flouting Aussie RSPCA rules by eating the rodent is a bit rich, considering the RSPCA doesn’t seem to have made a fuss about breeding bugs en masse for the Bushtucker Trials.
Is anyone else as furious over all this as me?

Ruth, I couldn’t agree more, I think it is ridiculous that they are making a huge fuss about all of this. I think its mad that they let them eat live bugs on tv but are now making a fuss about one rat!

i personally think this whole thing is stupid! They will make people eat kangaroos testicles and
dont bat an eyelash, but they kill a rat because they are starving and people cry animal rights!!
They didnt show the actual killing of the rat on tv so i dont know why people are making
such a fuss!! how were the contestants supposed to know they were tame rats! i agree and think that
ITV should be held responsible.

Couldn’t agree more! What a.b.s.o.l.u.t.e rubbish! Why would ANYONE eat vermin anyway unless it was for
a reason?!! Reason being they were starving! People just don’t have enough to complain about
these days. Lets concentrate on more important things like, oh I don’t know, Katie Price…har har!
I think Gino did very well, even the SAS manual tell you how to eat rats BUT do not eat the OFFALL
As that is were you can cath things/ How about Rat resotto in tesco??? Yum Yum
Apparently, the rat was killed in a very cruel way, not too surprisingly as the show is about sadism..
