Joe McElderry might have won the X Factor last night, which pretty much guarantees him the Christmas Number one… but lurking in the shadows is a band vying for a Merry Christmas of their own… on behalf of all that’s good in music.
So, if you’re sick and tired of talent show winners pocketing a shed-load of cash and fooling the nation into buying their ‘single’ which is a cover of a song that has already been released once this year (March 5, 2009 for the record).
VS.
I mean, are you having me on? We’re meant to buy a CD which we’ve already bought once this year already? You’ve got to be joking me! On that note though, I will be buying a CD today, and yes it will be a single… but some decent music in the form of Rage Against The Machine and Killing In The Name Of. Not that Miley Cyrus’ version of The Climb isn’t a decent song… I’ve got her album, and I’m not ashamed to admit I love it despite being a ‘rock chick‘ – god I hate that term… it makes me sound like Avril Lavigne! But Joe can’t do justice to her country sounds no matter how fluffy he might appear.
So it’s not Christmassy and my mum will probably cancel my purchase out by going and buying a copy of Joe McElderry on her dinner hour today… but I’m hoping all the members of the Facebook group ‘RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE FOR CHRISTMAS NO.1!’ will do good, honest music proud and get a ‘proper’ musician to number one.
All I need to know now is whether or not Amazon downloads count… and who’s with me?
Ruth. x

dont buy from amazon! it wont count!
No, Amazon doesn’t count. Get it from play.com!
Don’t forget to gift aid to shelter too, the xfactor song gives to charity, and we should too.
The latest statement on the group’s info tab is that it has been confirmed that amazon DOES count!
your all very sad ;; you dont know a good singer when u see one ; all of u get a life
The RATM for Xmas no1 organiser has had conformation from Amazon that thier sales do count towards the No1 spot. They pay 40p per download and are selling at a loss!! Tesco counts too. Merry Ragemas
Ian,
You don’t realise when you are being manipulated and brainwashed. Without innovators there will be no music for the likes of the karaoke boys to cover in the future.
It’s sad when disposable products like X Factor are taken seriously. Take a step back and ask “How does this give us the next Beatles, Springsteen, Prince, Nile Rodgers, Hendirx, Clapton, or even Take That for that matter?
I for one will buy Rage – not because I am conforming to the alternative – but because I happen to think it’s an incredible track that broke down the barriers between white rock and punk and black hop-hop and funk. It was innovation – not manipulation.

P.S. Happy Christmas everyone
