Joe McElderry can pack his goofy Geordie smile away after Rage Against The Machine are dominating the battle for the Christmas number one!
This Facebook campaign, which has been dubbed ‘Rage Against The (X Factor) Machine’, is determined to see an original and deserving artist taking the number one spot.
The early chart positions show that McElderry’s cover of ‘The Climb’ (which has already been released once this year) has sold less than the US band‘s iconic 1992 single, ‘Killing In The Name Of‘.

One major problem for rock fans however, is the fact that the physical format of McElderry’s single is not released until tomorrow, and this is expected to snatch the lead back for the corporate crooner.
So, do you think RATM can keep the lead, or will Joe smash them to pieces when his single hit’s the shops?

I think if Rage Against The Machine fans up the momentum, then there’s every chance it will go to no1, and they totally desrev it, the song is brilliant
The RAGE campaign can do this. The 29p version sold by Amazon wasn’t being bought by the RAGE team becasue there was confusion as to what would and what would not count towards the chart. That meant that many bought the track from other sites like Play.com, HMV, 7Digital and iTunes.
There was also a strong effort to ask peopel not to buy multiple copies for fear that they would be discounted by the OCC and for people to donate to Shelter instead as well as recruit more peopel to the cause.
The whole thing is very much touch and go but team RAGE simply need to buy a few copies of th 29p track from AMAZON come the end of the week, encourage more peopel that signed up to the campaign to buy and recruit the doubters that are on our side but haven’t yet purchased.
So Buy multiple copies from AMAZON at 29p and gift them FTW…
I am neither a Rage nor a Joe McElderry fan but last night was appalled and disgusted at the constant stream of foul, abusive and homophobic comments left by some Rage fans on the Joe McElderry fan page Facebook website last night. I see even you could not resist a personal dig at a young boy who just wants to sing. Never mind that he is not a yob like so many you read about today, that he is trying to make something of his life, he has a big beaming smile you consider goofy!
Music is all about choice and everyone has a right to their own choice. Men and women have died over the last hundred years in order to give us that freedom of choice and are still doing so!
Why care what is number 1 in the charts for Christmas? What does it really matter? Is it going to affect your Christmas, the rest of your life? It certainly won’t mine.
It’s a pity that the Rage Facebook campaigners couldn’t have found a more worthwhile issue from all the hundreds of long term problems faced by so many in the country today, to make a stand about. Who will care or even remember this campaign come January 1st 2010. If it succeeds, exactly what great worthwhile, longterm victory has it achieved?
If there are idiots on facebook then that is just the price of free speech. The groups creators have said from the outset that this is not a personal attack on anybody, simply a challenge to the chart supremacy of the Xfactor
The group has, to date, raised over £30,000 pound for the charity Shelter…that is surely doing something to tackle a serious issue
In addition to all that, the group is making a group of people feel empowered; that is they get together they can effect change even in the face of massive odds, surely that has to mean something
Its easy to knock something like this due to the actions of s few morons, but I urge you to look a little deeper and see that this, as well as being a bit of fun, is a event which will be remembered for many years to come
Merry Christmas
Very well said:)
It’s pretty ridiculous, Rage are signed to the same label as Cowell, Song BMG, either way the money goes to that company. In the end all you’re doing is making more money for a massive music corporation. Wee done.
Yes. I don’t think all the super-cool people who buy rage against the machine records realise that…
MC – I think you missed the point. It isnt about sony losing out on money, It’s about not having
another karaoke act as number one. Plus, it’s a bit of fun for christmas time.
RATM are utter cr@p!!!
Can’t stand them! AHHH!!!
This blog appears to have gone the same way as most on the subject – examining the company structures and making lofty declarations that Sony are actually the company behind both artists so aren’t we all stupid? That’s not the point. The lyrics are the point. Its a quick simple fun protest.
i love sooooooooooooooooo much
