The Pacific Footage And Images

Band of Brothers was one of the greatest piece of war filmmaking that I have ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on so I was super excited to hear that a second series called The Pacific was in the pipeline.

On 8th December 1941, just over 24 hours after the Japanese surprise attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbour, Congress issued a formal declaration of war against the Empire of Japan.

For a decade, tensions had been mounting between Japan and the US, as the Japanese expanded their conquest of a large region including much of China and Southeast Asia.

As a result of the bombing of Pearl Harbour, the United States officially entered World War II, already in its third year of being waged by countries of the Allied powers, including the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, Canada and Australia, against the Axis powers of Japan, Germany and Italy.

Practically overnight, military recruiting offices across the United States were jammed, as thousands of Americans rushed to enlist in the armed forces. Many of those young men chose to join the Marine Corps, which saw its ranks more than triple in the six months following Pearl Harbour.

The Pacific tracks the three entwined, real-life journeys of Leckie, Sledge and Basilone and their fellow Marines over the vast landscape of the Pacific in World War II.

The mini-series follows them from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.

The production of the series has cost an estimated $200 million and has been shot entirely in High Definition. The investment in the project has given the finished series the look and feel of a major Hollywood theatrical release with the ongoing narrative of a serial drama.

So here we have some of the first footage from the series as well as some images:

Grown Ups Trailer

The first trailer for the new Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups is finally here.

Directed by Dennis Dugan Grown Ups, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach.

With their wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph) and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier.

Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.

Grown Ups is released in the UK 6th August. But check out the trailer:

Valentine’s Day Premiere

It may have been a rather chilly night in the centre of London last night but that didn’t stop the stars from stepping onto the red carpet for the European premiere of Valentine’s Day.

Director Garry Marshall and Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, Topher Grace and Demi Moore all braved the cold to promote the film and delight the fans in Leicester Square.

An all-star ensemble cast comes together in Valentine’s Day, following the intertwining storylines of a group of Los Angelinos as they find their way through romance over the course of one Valentine’s Day.

Full Length Toy Story 3 Trailer… And New Character.

Hard to believe that’s it’s 2005 when Toy Story and Pixar kicked off the CGI animation craze, yes it’s been fifteen years.

But this year they are back as Toy Story 3 hit the big screen in July.

Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives?

In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future.

Take a look at the new trailer:

We can also introduce you another new character that will be appearing in the movie for the first time.

Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear is a jumbo, extra-soft teddy bear with a pink and white plush body and a velvety purple nose.

This lovable bear stands fuzzy heads and shoulders above other teddy bears because he smells like sweet strawberries!

With a smile that will light up your child’s face and a belly just asking to be hugged, Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear is sure to become a bedtime necessity. Stain-resistant. Spot clean plush surface with a damp cloth.

A Single Man Clip

A Single Man, the directorial debut of Tom Ford, makes it onto the big screen today starring Colin Firth in the central role.

Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, A Single Man, is the story of George Falconer, a 52 year old British college professor [Firth] who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner, Jim [Matthew Goode].

George dwells on the past and cannot see his future as we follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters, ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim.

George is consoled by his closest friend Charley [Julianne Moore], a 48 year old beauty who is wrestling with her own questions about the future.

A young student of George’s, Kenny [Nicholas Hoult], who is coming to terms with his true nature, stalks George as he feels in him a kindred spirit.

For his performance in the film Colin Firth has bagged his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Ruth’s Friday Fashion Tribute

The British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead at his London home at the age of 40. It is believe he committed suicide. Our thoughts are with his friends and family and he will be truly missed.

Lady GaGa is renowned for her off the wall outfits by now, and we’ve just sort of gotten used to them to be honest, but what on EARTH is she wearing here? She looks like one of the inhabitants of Davy Jones’ Locker!

John Mayer has opened his big mouth again, and is in serious danger of feeling the wrath of ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson after opening up about their sex life – admitting the singer/actress was “crazy” in bed.

Peter Andre has proven that he really is at the heart of the nation after 865 people complained on his behalf after seeing him break down in tears during an interview on Sky News. The masses want the journalist (Kay Burley) sacked, but what do YOU think?

Vernon Kay really is in the doghouse over his saucy texts to other ladies, and has asked his bosses over at Radio 1 if he can have a week off from his Saturday morning show to spend some time with wife Tess.

It’s fair to say that animation movies have been a dominating force at the box office what with the Pixar/Dreamworks rivalry. But over the last twenty year Studio Ghibli and filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki have produced some of the most beautiful animation movies. And as another one is about to hit the big screen we take a look at some of the films that you really must watch.

Vanessa Redgrave is to be honoured with the Bafta Fellowship Award at this year’s ceremony. Over the years she has produced a great body of work, on both the big screen and in the theatre, and is one of the greatest actresses that this country has ever produced… about damn time that this award came her way!
