The Pacific Trailer

Band of Brothers was one of the finest TV shows every to screened on the small screen, it helps when you have the likes of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks behind the project.

Well the pair are back with The Pacific, which follows a group of American soldiers after the attack on Pearl Harbour.

On 8th December 1941, just over 24 hours after the Japanese surprise attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbour, Congress issued a formal declaration of war against the Empire of Japan.

For a decade, tensions had been mounting between Japan and the US, as the Japanese expanded their conquest of a large region including much of China and Southeast Asia.

As a result of the bombing of Pearl Harbour, the United States officially entered World War II, already in its third year of being waged by countries of the Allied powers, including the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, Canada and Australia, against the Axis powers of Japan, Germany and Italy.

Practically overnight, military recruiting offices across the United States were jammed, as thousands of Americans rushed to enlist in the armed forces.

Many of those young men chose to join the Marine Corps, which saw its ranks more than triple in the six months following Pearl Harbour.

The Pacific tracks the three entwined, real-life journeys of Leckie, Sledge and Basilone and their fellow Marines over the vast landscape of the Pacific in World War II.

The mini-series follows them from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.

Everybody’s Fine Clip

Robert De Niro returns to the big screen this week with Everybody’s Fine, his first movie of 2010.

He teams up with Drew Barrymore, Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale in the Kirk Jones directed movie.

Frank Goode (De Niro) has spent his adult life working in a local wire factory earning every dollar he can to support his family. Recently retired, he realises that over the years he has spent too little time with his four children and that it’s time to reconnect.

Franks’ late wife was always his main point of contact with his kids but he decides that it’s now his responsibility to keep an eye on them.

He is inspired to invite the whole extended family for a barbeque weekend. Preparations go well until one by one, such is modern life, they all have good reason to cancel.

Despite a strict warning from his doctor, Frank takes matters into his own hands and packs a bag before setting out on a journey across the US with the intention of surprising each of his children and wallowing in their success and happiness.

Who Should Replace Dannii Minogue On The X Factor?

Whilst Dannii Minogue hasn’t quit the X Factor (although the rumours will probably emerge sometime soon), she will be having her first baby right in the middle of the next series…. So who should fill in for her?

Over here at FemaleFirst we’ve been thinking, should Simon Cowell employ a guest judge for the duration of the series, or should we have a different celebrity judge once a week – just like on American Idol?

Apparently, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen and Victoria Beckham have all had their names battered around the X Factor HQ, but who would YOU like to see judging the nation?

Personally we’d like another popstar, maybe Frankie from the Saturdays or one Phoebe from Girls Cant Catch? Not THAT would be interesting!

Kids In Glass Houses Take Over Thursday

Kids In Glass Houses are in the house! Woo! if you’ve got a question for Aled and the boys, just drop them a line and we’ll hook you up.

Cheryl Cole might have confirmed that she is separating from love-rat husband Ashley Cole, but she has no immediate plans to actually divorce him as she doesn’t want to hurt him. Now Cheryl girl, YOU don’t want to hurt HIM?! He has been frolicking around with god knows how many other women and you‘re worried about hurting his feelings?
