When I started out as a music journalist, never did I think id be writing about two US popstars, both kids, both loaded and both teenage heartthrobs. I mean, fair enough, I can see why kids fancy vampire Robert Pattinson, or even Justin Timberlake, but Beiber and Archuleta, come on, have their voices even broken?
So, we’re looking to bring an end to the Justin Bieber Vs. David Archuleta nonsense, and once and for all let you, the fans decide who is best. We know making you pick is like asking a mum to pick her favourite child or asking me to choose between Sebastian Vettel and Giovanni Ribisi, but because we’re mean (and we can) we’ve decided to throw it open to the fans.
Okay, so this kinda means that is one boy has more fans than the other they’re bound to win… and whilst we reckon JB might have just a couple more teens on his side, our love for Mr Archuleta means we’re going to be ringing round all our mates and getting them to vote. No, we’re just joking, we wouldn’t want our ’scientific findings’ to be biased or anything.

This was Davids performance at the ALMA NCLR AWARDS when he won the best Male Artist for 2009. So proud of David for singing in Spanish-just stunning. He could have sung a song from his Album like all the other artists there that night! But no David sang a song that would honor his Latino heritage . This is why I love David as an artist he just does what is right not thinking about how much money and fame it will bring him-as a fan just when I think he cant make me any prouder of him he sings this song-a I dont know Spanish but his passion when singing is like no other. I did get the lips and the stars part. Gadh! Love it when that Latino comes out of him! This is why David has a broad fan base. He can sing anything including Spanish,French and Latin like on his Christmas CD. His fan base is 8 to 80! LOL!

David has fans of all ages and many of fans support him through thick and thin. Justin has only tween girl fans and most of them will move away when they grow older just like Disney fans. Technically, vocally there is no question who is better.
What are all these comparisons? First, it was Adam Lambert vs David, Aaron Kelly vs David, now Beaver vs David. David’s musical talent is surely the benchmark worthy for comparisons.

Someone on Team Archuleta is definitely thinking. Me, too. I was gonna post David vs. Justin by showing both singing ‘No Air’ with Jordin. This comparison totally tells the tale. David is sooo much better than Bieber, it isn’t even funny. Justin may be nice and able to sing for the most part, but he’s certainly not on the level of a David Archuleta, my favorite singer EVER. Plus, David is gorgeous and way past endearing. I will be an uber fan of his forever!
Both singers do the same verse. Go to 1:24 on the Bieber/Sparks video and then to 1:32 on the Archuleta/Sparks video. It’s a good compare. Both gents probably had the same level of preparation on their performances with Jordin. David is just a far more confident singer, fabulous tone quality. Justin does not badly for winging it with Jordin, but he’s not the singer David is.
This really is a great indicator, since both of them sang the same exact part of the song, and clearly David has a much stronger and powerful voice than Justin does. Justin fell very flat with his notes. David has been on a higher level for years, which not many other people can attain so early or even at all. Justin is only a kid still. 16 and 19 may be three years, but in that part of life, those are a BIG 3 years lol David is in this for the long run.
Just listen to those signature Archie runs and harmonizing towards the end of the song. I mean – WOW! That just shows how he understand music. Justin can barely keep up with Jordan Sparks. Justin’s voice cannot come close in comparison to the full and rich tone, phrasing, etc. of David.

But by far David is in it for the long haul-JB is just hype right now! I also hope that Jive supports David on his next Album. His book to hit the shelves June 1 will show not only his music passions but his character. He is so respected in the music industry becuase of his talent and hard work. David, with his magnificent voice and stunning character, appeals to all ages (I know because I
am in my sixties and have many friends who adore him like I do!!) He is such a great performer
and sings with such conviction. He is my favorite singer to come down the pike in a long, long
time. I have been to many of his concerts and look forward to many more. I am on pins and
needles waiting for his next CD. I am also looking forward to reading his memoir, “Chords of
Strength” coming out June 1st.
With all due respect, I think we are comparing apples with oranges here. They might only be 3 or so years apart in age but David’s maturity is way beyond his years. They might both have lots of teenage fans but David in particular also has many older fans from all walks of life. Right now, Justin appears to be more popular but we know that his fan base (tweens/teens) tend to move onto the next new sensation pretty easily. We also know it is the tweens/teens that twitter and text more than any other age group put together LOL, so it may appear that he has more fans simply because they are so ‘talkative’, not to mention the marketing force behind Justin. Justin has a sweet voice but very few current male vocalists have the talent of David Archuleta. I don’t mean to sound demeaning to Justin – I think he is doing his best with a situation where too many people expect him to be something he is not. I just don’t see why so many people seem to want to continue to compare Justin and David. I think it diminishes both of them when we do.
You make a good point. Do we compare Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift in polls like this? they’re both mediocre singers but Miley is super produced and Taylor is a far superior songwriter. Frankly, Jordin Sparks is a better singer than both of them. But popularity isn’t based on singing ability alone. all you have to do is look at the top 10 singles selling on itunes to see that.

I realize that Justin IS a big thing right now, and the last thing I want to do is offend anyone. But in my opinion, Justin is just one of those passing-by crazes. There won’t be all this hype about him 2 years from now. Suuure, he’s a cute kid. But his time will pass.

Justin Bieber is NOT from the U.S. He is Canadian (I’m from Toronto). Unfortunately he’s ALWAYS in our face up here. I’ll take the hotness, awesome singing and personality of David anyday. No comparison (I think JB will be in rehab before he turns 18!).
Bieber has talent, and he will sell. He has been fortunate to have some very good song writers. Of course, for alot of the tweens and teens the appeal is “the swagger,” and not the artistry. That is your focus at that age. As far as vocal abilities, not really fair to compare the two because it is a rather small group, (if we are talking about pop singers and not classical) that can keep up with David.

OK…here is my 2 cents worth lol. Justin Beiber and David Archuleta both have things in their favor, some good and some bad. Justin Beiber seems to have the qualities girls like. He has the normal, “I’m a cool dude” attitude, he is young, can dance, and is cute. He has major support from his record label. He is promoted very well from playing his music on the radio to big tv promo. Justin is more of the entertainer type to me. David Archuleta sings a different type of music. He seems like a more serious artist who wants his music to mean something, instead of the everyday music on the radio. David’s label does not do much promotion and that contributes to him not being as popular. By not keeping a singer in the public eye, and not much promo, an artist does not do as well. David is also a cute guy and has a killer smile lol. As far as image or personality goes…Justin playes the cool card like all pop/rock singers do. David seems more down to earth and acts like he doesn’t want to portray himself as anyone other than who he is. So, this to me is the difference between these two guys. As far as their vocal abilities…David by far is a better singer. Justin sounds too much like a girl and he is old enough for his voice to have changed by now. Some guys just have a higher voice than others. I personally like my guys to sound like guys when they sing, but that is just me lol. It comes down to preference really. Everyone likes different artists for different reasons. How about we just drop this and like them both!!!
This poll is a little hard to understand. You are comparing a kid who just happened to get a break from someone who wanted to market him. His voice is pretty much like any other teen who sings in the shower, nothing special. When I listen to music the voice is what brings me in and David has the voice of this generation. His pitch is spot on flawless and he has the ability to take you away with him in the song. He is kind, humble and such a good person. He exemplifies a true talent and someone who truly loves to sing and make people happy. His voice just blows me away!

why are they compared? there’s nothing about either one of them that is comparable.
David attracts a wider audience which is why it’s so much harder to market for him. Justin’s target is automatically segmented as we know. But David has actually changed (and now, more than ever, is still trying to) change the face and conception of music. He’s not just “cute.” I don’t know how that makes anyone really a star, but obviously looks are more important. I’m sorry but David wins because his work has affected many peoples’ lives and brought many people together. If Justin comes out with a Christmas album then I really don’t know how society might function again. But David doesn’t last for one or two years, he’s got a huge future ahead of him.
As for the article itself, i don’t know WHY it was written. I love ruth’s articles she’s written about David but this one just goes over my head. there is NOTHING similar about David and Justin that they need to compete for. No comparison at all. David is a true artist and is here to stay, not the latest teen craze. I can honestly say that his voice is the best I’ve ever heard. His voice, maturity and character put him leagues above not only Justin, but most other musicians as an artist and a person. He sings beautifully in multiple languages. I don’t like comparisons and especially when the subjects, persons, things, issues that are being compared are not similar at all! There is nothing to be compared between David and Justin. I still don’t understand why they are being compared. They are both teenagers and singers, so what? There are thousands of teenagers that are singers around the world; are we going to compared them all? And if we have to compared David Archuleta’s beautiful personality, charisma, intelligence, heart, soul, generosity, great sense of humor, kindness, humbleness and so many great qualities David has (oh, yes, he is also very handsome! With gorgeous eyes and smile that brighten up the world!). David is admired by people of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds; he is a great example and role model for people of all ages.
if we are going to compared David’s AMAZING, unique, beautiful talent; then I would have to say David Archuleta is simply the best! no comparison can be made with Justin or anybody else. Music is the international language; even if you don’t understand Spanish, you can feel, hear, see the exquisite David’s exquisite talent when you watch the video of his performance at the ALMA Awards posted by hanna (by the way, he won 2009 Music’s Rising Male Star). David is one of a kind! If you want to see real and amazing talent, watch David’s performances during his Christmas tour. He’s simply the best! Ruth & Bieber fans: This poll is nonsense. David is an adult & while he has many young
fans, which is wonderful, he has fans of all ages. Biebers fans are mainly pre-teens, which is fine.
Comparing these two is inconceivable to me. I ask all bloggers to quit talking about David as if he’s a
16 year old boy, he is not. Take the time to check out performances on you tube or when the
opportunity presents itself again, see him live. David has the most incredible voice, especially
live. Please show him the respect he deserves, both as a musician & a man. He treats others
with respect & kindness. It would be nice if others returned the favor. Everyone picks a side
in these polls & some have to tear down the other. How about you mention the things you like
about the person thats your favorite. As for Bieber, no I’m not a fan, but its ok if others are. If
you like his music & it makes you happy, thats great. Its ok to cheer on your favorite, enjoy
their music & respect other performers. You are allowed to have more than one favorite. Theres

HAHAHHAHA, omg, I totally agree with Marti09, musically David is light years older than Justin, lol. Poor Justin, it was an slap on the face, lol. Well, for me, Justin is just a pretty face :/ But David? No words. He’s everything. He’s cute, he’s a nice person, he’s romantic. I’m not saying Justin isn’t, but it’s just that, how can I say? David is just much better, there’s no way to compare them.
I recently saw Justin perform on QVC. My first thought was “HUH? All this hype for this? I was very disappointed in Justin voice and I said to myself that David was light years ahead of this kid. There was no comparison to the voice of David. And this was before this silly little survey! ARCHIE ROCKS!
