Karly Ashworth : Fashion & Compassion

The other week I attended a fabulous charity fashion show event called ‘Fashion & Compassion’ in aid of the wonderful charity JUMP. I think the work they do is so inspiring and was absolutely thrilled to be a part of the whole fundraising experience.

To tell you about the charity ,J-U-M-P Stands for Jacobs Unique Memory Pot and is a registered charity providing memory packages for sick and disabled children and their families. J-U-M-P began in 2004 to form a Charity in memory of a remarkable little boy Jacob Hawthorn. Jacob was born with Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease that severely affects movement and mobility.

Jacob’s family worked very hard to remove barriers that got in the way of Jacob living as normal a life as possible, his Mum took him on lots of lovely trips so that he could experience lots of different things. His favourite place was Disneyland Paris.

Sadly Jacob passed away on the 13th February 2004, his family found it difficult to deal with his loss, as any family would be. He was a brave, pleasant little boy, who rarely complained although he had a lot of illness to cope with. His family had a wonderful collection of pictures and short films of his adventures and found them a real priceless treasure to cherish his memory.

During the few days after Jacob passed away his Nanna thought what a wonderful tribute it would be to Jacob, to set up a Charity to capture memories for other children who face health challenges.

Hence J-U-M-P was formed. Jacob just loved the song JUMP and so it was fitting to use this as our Charity name. Personally I feel that this is a brilliant, moving, heart felt charity giving families priceless memories that they can cherish forever.

I attended with my lovely new boyfriend, we had such a great night together. I was also joined by my other fellow Big Brother housemates Corin from BB11 & Luke Marsden BB9.

Luke, might I add, was quite the comedian and made my night! Music was provided by Lola ( The Only Way is Essex) and The X Factor girl band Husstle! There were also some gorgeous dresses on show.

I am happy to say that the Charity night was a complete and utter success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Over £2000 was raised, this was all from donations, ticket sales, raffle and auction and am absolutely thrilled I could be part of such a fantastic fundraising night for a wonderful charity.
Check out the website for more info and if you can please donate to help create some precious memories for families who need them most. www.j-u-m-p.org

Men Are So… Into Page Three

What is it with men and topless women? I just don’t understand why they insist of having them plastered all over their wall / computer / phone and calendars… it’s bad enough that we can’t open a tabloid without staring at someone’s breasts every morning, but how would blokes feel if page two of every newspaper was a picture of a naked fella?

Does anyone else find it unnerving when you’re sat there with a guy, thinking about how you could murder a pizza and a glass of wine, and all you can see is a teeny-waisted girl staring back at you, gloating; “I’m fitter than you.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against these girls, my fellow columnist Karly Ashworth is probably the prettiest page three girls I’ve ever seen, and I know there’s no way on earth my man would have a chance with her, but I still don’t like the idea that he looks at these teeny women with perfect skin and hair and nails and bums and boobs whilst I’m waddling around with my non-tanned skin and wondering why I can’t live up to them?

Someone said to me last night; “Memphis, the more weight you lose, the less confident you become.” And I think it’s true… but no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be like them, does that mean I’m not enough?

Oh God, Snoop Dogg’s Written A Song For Prince William. It’s Called WET.

It seems like everyone in the entire world is trying to piggyback off the news of a royal wedding, and that rapper bloke Snoop Dogg is no different… and he’s not even blinking British.

Apparently, SD has written a track especially for Prince Williams stag do, and its called – wait for it – “Wet”. Yes, how hugely inappropriate to write a song for the future king with the title ‘Wet’?

In a press release for the track, he says: “When I heard the royal family wanted to have me perform in celebration of Prince William’s marriage, I knew I had to give them a little something.”

Some of the lyrical highlights of “Wet” include; “Can you wipe me down, so I can lick you up” and “Tell me baby are you wet, I just wanna get you wet.”

I’m sure Kate will be flattered…

The Tourist Clips

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie have both enjoyed a successful year with Alice and Wonderland and Salt under their belts.

But next week sees the pair team up for The Tourist, which is directed by Henckel von Donnersmarck and also stars Paul Bettany and Tomothy Dalton.

During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise , an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.

Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

The Tourist is released 10th December. Take a look at some clips from the movie:

The Tree of Life Poster And First Images

Terrence Malick is a director who makes a movie every once in a while… and he is about to return with his new movie The Tree of Life.

The movie reunites the director with Oscar winner Sean Penn, the pair worked together on The Thin Red Line, and also also stars Brad Pitt.

We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul.

She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims.

The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

Framing this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part.

When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.

The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family, our first school, the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.

Somewhere Clips

It’s been a while since we have seen a Sofia Coppola movie hit the big screen but she is back in the director’s chair her new movie Somewhere.

You have probably seen him in the tabloids; actor Johnny Marco is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood.

He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along.

Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau.

Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life and confront the question that we all must: which path in life will you take?

FilmClub Talks To Narnia Stars

The third Narnia adventure is about to launch into UK cinemas and FILMCLUB, the education charity and experts in film for young people, sent intrepid junior reporter Liam, 11, along to the Royal Premiere to interview the stars of the new film and find out what cinema-goers can expect in the next chapter of the C.S. Lewis classic.

Liam, who is a young ambassador for the charity, interviewed the stars and director of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, including Liam Neeson (voice of Aslan), Georgie Henley (Lucy), Skandar Keynes (Edmund), Will Poulter (Eustace), Gary Sweet (Drinian) William Moseley (Peter) director Michael Apted and 2009 X-Factor winner Joe McElderry, who sings the title track for the film.

The movie sees Ben Barnes. Georgie Henley andn Skandar Keynes as they find themselves on another adventure in Narnia.

This time around Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world.

Joining forces once again with their royal friend Prince Caspian and the warrior mouse Reepicheep, they are whisked away on a mysterious mission to the Lone Islands, and beyond.

On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk.

Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan’s Country, a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader, can save Narnia, and all the astonishing creatures in it, from an unfathomable fate.
