Celebrities step into shoe designing…

We’re no stranger to the celebrity fashion collaboration and it would seem that after ticking off clothing, cosmetics and kids lines, the next thing on the agenda = shoes.

With both British babe Cheryl Cole and US actress Rachel Bilson coming up with there own shoe collaborations, I’m quietly confident that these ladies will get it right.

Where there is a huge pressure to deliver on clothing collections (Kanye West, Beyonce etc…), there isn’t the same pressure with footwear. Yes, critics and commentators will want to see what all the fuss is about, but I’d say it’s easier to get a shoe right than it is wrong.

So we have two opposite scenarios…

Actress turned designer Bilson has more experience in this game than our loveable Chezza, having designed ranges for DKNY in the past with some success. She is also a fully fledged style icon and so her decision to create a footwear line with Beachmint seems like the natural step (pun intended) for progression and expansion.

On the other hand, Cheryl Cole has been shrouded in rumours about fashion lines, and TV shows for a long time now. She has always voiced her love for fashion, but rather than stride into the industry making herself vulnerable to criticism and future opportunities, she’s tip toe-ing in to test the waters with some shoes. There is no doubting that she knows how to dress, but designing in another game entirely.

That said, I’m looking forward to Mrs Cole’s line with Stylistpick.com more than Bilson’s Shoemint collection as I think it will answer a lot of the talent and potential questions that are floating around.

Of course shoes are important to every woman, and Cheryl has compared this opportunity to being a ‘dream come true’ for her.

So what do you think the first few will look like?

I predict plenty of glamorous, towering heels, colour, texture and the odd animal print or two.

We’re reading when you are Cheryl…
