We’re drawing to the end of October, and that means the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month – but this by no means suggests that we should forget about the disease and the effects that it has on people’s lives.
Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in Britain. Research shows that there are around 550,000 women living with it in the UK today.
Avon cosmetics is hosting a live web chat with a Macmillan Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist to allow local women, their friends and families to receive expert advice about breast cancer.
It’s easily accessible through avonconnects.co.uk and tit will take place on Thursday October 27 at 1pm.
Angela Sheldrick, a Macmillan Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist with over 12 years experience at Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, will be on hand to give people living with breast cancer, their friends adn families, exert advice and support from the comfort of their own home.
Emma Salt, Charity Partnerships Manager at Avon Cosmetics, says: “As Avon celebrates 125 years of improving women’s lives, our commitment to the breast cancer cause is stronger than ever. We’re delighted to be working with Macmillan to harness the reach of Avon Connects – a unique, online social network – to offer support to more people affected by breast cancer.”
Research also shows there are around 30,000 women living with secondary breast cancer in England in any one year. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and awarded over £15 million for vital breast cancer research, education and care in the UK.
Francesca Insole from Macmillan Cancer Support says: “Breast cancer is an issue close to the hearts of women everywhere. This is why Avon and the Macmillan team have set up the web chat to give women and their loved ones the chance to seek information, advice and support through a new channel. You don’t have to face cancer alone.”
