Friday’s Fashion Five…

It’s the end of another week, which means it’s time to round up five of my best bits from the fashion world…enjoy!

1. Statement rings: I’m a huge fan of jewellery, (which lady isn’t?) rings mainly. On nights out in particular, I’ve taken to wearing just one statement ring that either clashes or compliments a look. Whether it’s a block colour ring, bling ring or edgy cool – when doing statement, it means choosing a couple of well thought pieces and not getting carried away in the moment. But if you’re anything like me it’s the process of choosing just one at a time that’s the issue!

2. Metallics at the office: I have just finished Friday’s pick of the day, in which I’ve selected a brilliant River Island metallic skirt for £20. Though you may not think it, it’s a great twist on the traditional office look! Just keep in mind that you’re dressing to sit a desk and not dance at a disco and you’ll be fine. Stick to simple black flats/courts to balance the shimmer.

3. Versace for H&M advert: Yesterday I blogged about the new Versace for H&M ad. It’s got me really excited to see the pieces in the flesh. While I don’t think I could pull off the palm tree ensemble, the wacky, creative advert is inspiring me to take more of a risk with my own fashion, and that’s what I love about mixing high-end with highstreet. Be inventive, fashionistas!

4. Glam eyes: With party season just around the corner you should be stocking up on shimmers, glitters, gold, silver and sparkle for your makeup. Not only are the rich winter tones helpful for the going-out look for a/w 2011, but the punked-up, glam smoky vibe is also still bang on trend. Seeing this Gucci s/s 2012 shot made me want to grab for the kohl eyeliner and get to work on some serious statement eyes!

5. Getting into shape for Christmas: Is it really that time of year again? Different punishments diets are cropping up all over the place with new and inventive ways for you too lose weight and stay in shape for your diary of engagements this holiday season. One poll even said that some women said they would sacrifice all their christmas presents for the rest of their lives to stay a size 10 and still eat what they want…. really? The rest of your life?

Not for me, my Swarovski Christmas list gets longer by the day!

Booze Britain myth debunked

The portrayal of Brits as boozy binge drinkers may have to be reconsidered.

In what is believed to be the largest blind-tasting ever carried out across the UK, over 3,000 consumers said they would be happy to pay £8.00 for a bottle of wine, despite having the chance to buy it for a penny.

Oddbins, the high street wine merchant, carried out blindtastings of three wines in its 37 branches across the UK. It promised to put the bottles on its shelves at whatever price consumers chose.

But rather than forcing Oddbins to put the three wines onsale at the lowest possible price, consumers demonstrated a British sense offair play and submitted an average price recommendation for each bottle of between £8.00 and £8.50.

Wine lovers were asked to value three wines due to be introduced to Oddbins’ extensive new wine range. They provided an average price for the Leyda Sauvignon Blanc of £7.93, the Yering Chardonnay at £8.52 and the Valgrays Garnacha at £8.48. The trio of wines will now go on sale at the Customer Recommended Price (CRP).

Ayo Akintola, Managing Director of Oddbins, said: “This unprecedented tasting and value exercise shows that British wine drinkers not only recognise the quality of wine, but are happy to pay a fair price for it. The common perception is that that UK wine drinkers are only concerned with price, something we have never believed and this result has disproved. The CRP was very close to our original pricing for the threebottles which demonstrates Oddbins commitment to value”

“This is the start of a much wider conversation with our customers about value and we are committed to responding to what they are telling us.”

“The exercise has also revealed interesting trends about our customers’ wine preferences which will help us provide them a better service and experience in future.”

The results also debunked the stereotype that women appreciated white wine more than red wine.

Emma Nichols, Head of Buying atOddbins, said: “The results showed that men and women valued the red and white wines equally. There was no price preference demonstrated by women towards the two white wines or the men towards the red wine.”

Safe Trailer

Jason Statham is back on the big screen in the new year with his latest action movie Safe – where, as you may imagine, he ends up killing a lot of people.

Boaz Yakin is in the director’s chair for the movie in what is his first film project since Death In Love back in 2008 – he also penned the script.

A former elite agent takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who’s been abducted by the Triads, then use a safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

Anson Mount and Chris Sarandon are also on the cast list and it looks set to be an explosive ride.

Safe is released 2nd March. Take a look at the trailer for the movie:
