About Ruth

Word up! I am the music editor at FemaleFirst.co.uk. My favourite bands are Nightwish, Biffy Clyro and A Day To Remember. I do have rather biglove for the Now Thats What I Call Music CD's though. Katie Price annoys me but I love how she's made a name for herself by being annoying. That takes some work.

Swedish melodic rockers prepare second studio album for Spring 2011 release via Spinefarm Records UK…

DEAD BY APRIL
– the chart-topping five-piece from Gothenburg, Sweden – will release their new/second studio album through Spinefarm Records in May 2011, with an as yet unnamed single leading the way.

Produced in his own Big Island Studio in Stockholm by Swedish studio-meister Jacob Hellner, best known for his work with the mighty Rammstein, the album will be mixed by fellow Rammstein regular Stefan Glaumann and will feature the session guitar work of Pontus Hjelm, who left DBA last year to focus more on the writing & production side; his songs (including ‘More Than Yesterday’ – the demo track featured on the compilation mini-album ‘Stronger’, recently released via Spinefarm) will also feature, providing the all-important continuity with the self-titled debut, a Top 2 outing in Sweden.

Say DBA: “The new recordings are almost complete, and we’re delighted with the way they’re turning out – they are WAY beyond anything we’ve done before, smashing our debut! Jacob Hellner is now giving us the heaviness we’ve always craved… we are super-excited, and can’t wait for our fans, and everyone else, to hear the results!”

Having toured here late last year with UK outfit My Passion, and before that with Skindred, DBA are now finalising their live plans for 2011.

Originally called Avalanche, the band first came to public attention via a four-song

To support the release of the album, Amaranthe will be Special Guesting with Kamelot on two UK dates in April. Of course, Swedish vocalist Elize is no stranger to Kamelot’s music, having performed live with the band throughout 2010…

Lady Gaga: “I Smoke A Lot Of Pot”

Oh Lady GaGa. I’m actually shaking my head in disappointment after you have bragged about smoking pot. It’s not big, it’s not clever, and its certainly not something you should be broadcasting to your young fans.

Okay, I get it, she’s the biggest star of the decade but by claiming that this success is often a direct result of drugs and whiskey can only have a negative effect on any easily led ‘little monsters’ right?

During an interview with American show 60 Minutes, Gags told interviewer Anderson Cooper she used to use cocaine and still smokes marijuana; “I smoke a lot of pot when I write music. I’m not gonna, like, sugar coat it for 60 Minutes that, you know, I’m some, like, sober human being ’cause I’m not. I drink a lot of whiskey and I smoke weed when I write.

“I don’t want to encourage kids to do drugs. What artists do wrong is they lie. And I don’t lie. I’m not a liar. I built good will with my fans. They know who I am. And I’m just like them in so many ways.”

What do YOU think? Do you think her honesty is admirable, or are you worried your kids might think if they smoke weed, they can be like GaGa?

Tim McGraw Is Somehow Linked To Elvis….

Country star Tim McGraw was left speechless as he delved deep into his ancestral past after discovering his relatives migrated from Germany to the U.S. with Elvis Presley’s family.

McGraw researched his family history as part of genealogy TV show Who Do You Think You Are? and learned his eighth great grandfather, Johan Jost Hayd, hailed from a small village in south-west Germany.

Ancestry experts found a 24-year-old Hayd had been forced into a life of servitude after being lured to the U.S. by false promises of jobs and land from the British monarchy.

The refugees were shipped off to Governor’s Island in New York and put to work for the British Navy, although Hayd managed to find a way out by escaping to work for a local farmer.

It was a story of determination that deeply moved McGraw because he could see similarities in his own struggle to succeed: “It tells you that he was very entrepreneurial and very spirited to be able to find a way to better himself.

“It’s a story that I guess, generations later, I grew up in Louisiana sort of a poor kid, didn’t have a lot. I sold everything that I had, ended up getting on a Greyhound bus and moved to Nashville, so there are some similarities, and those things pay off, if you work hard. It’s pretty incredible. Thank goodness for Jost Hayd or I wouldn’t be here!”

But researchers had an even bigger surprise in store for the singer/actor – Hayd left Germany on the same boat as the ancestors of rock legend Presley, whose family name was originally Prestlar.

A stunned McGraw marvelled at the news, before admitting, “It’s pretty amazing.” Later in the programme, which aired in the U.S. on Friday, McGraw visited his uncle in Louisiana to tell him about their link to The King.

He said, “One interesting side note, the boat trip that Jost took with those immigrants from Germany, there was another family that was pretty interesting on that same trip – the Presley family. The origins of his family came over on the same boat as Jost’s family. It’s the King of Rock and Roll, man!”

And that isn’t McGraw’s only claim to fame – after settling in one of the southern states, Hayd also came into contact with a young George Washington and allowed the man who would become the first president of the U.S. to spend the night at his family home.

Ruth’s Saturday Sauce

Vogue is THE magazine every self-respecting model wants to grace the cover of, and when Lady GaGa got her turn, I was convinced it would be one of the greatest images of all time. Sadly though, I think not.

Mark Ronson is the latest in the line of hunky men to be taken off the shelf for ever more as he is engaged to marry French model Josephine De La Baume. Soon there will be none left at all!

Why can’t popstars just sing their songs and dance around these days? What is it with the likes of Rihanna and her band of horses that means they have to make all their music about sex? Am I sounding old?

Oh God, Rihanna’s Planning A Raunchy BRITs Performance

Why can’t popstars just sing their songs and dance around these days? What is it with the likes of Rihanna and her band of horses that means they have to make all their music about sex?

I am well aware that I’m starting to sound like my mother now, but apparently the 22-year-old Bajan star is hoping to shock audiences with what is being dubbed as her raunchiest performance ever.

A source told The Metro; “Rihanna’s Brits performance is going to be her raunchiest show yet, and will be filled with lots of nudity.”

Classy.

Emmure and Dr. Acula Release New Videos

Every once in a while, a video will be good enough to make viewers want to watch more than once, but it is a rare occasion when a bare-knuckles performance video is guaranteed to give them chills. Enter Emmure with their hair-raising video for the single “Solar Flare Homicide” off their highly anticipated new album Speaker of the Dead, out February 15. The raw energy of the band coupled with the numbing guitar riffs and insanely brutal breakdowns is almost entrancing; so much so that it’s almost guaranteed that you will have it on repeat, begging for more…and more is what Victory steps in to give you.

Fellow label mates Dr. Acula swoop in to tag team you into submission, bringing more party than you will know what to do with. “Who You Gonna Call?” is the query, and the obvious answer is the hard-partying, grind-core septet hailing from New York whose new release, Slander, also hits stores February 15th.

Jude & Sienna Split. Again. Yawn

They’re on and off more times than Li-Lo changes her sexuality, but it looks as though Jude Law and Sienna Miller have split again. But this time for good… ooh.

A spokesperson said: ‘I can confirm that Jude Law and Sienna Miller are no longer in a relationship.’ which sucks, considering they just bought a £8 million house together a few months ago. Ouch.

Sienna broke up with Jude a bit ago after that whole sleeping with the nanny debacle, but we don’t really know what’s gone on this time, and to be honest, we’re not really that bothered… all we’re thinking is; Jude Law – would you?

Yes, he’s an idiot at times, but when we saw him in The Holiday, we did go a bit fuzzy.
