Karly Ashworth : Healthy Living

Since the whole anorexia storm has now settled, I thought this would be a good time for me to talk about ways in which I stay in shape and share with you some of my healthy living tips!

Weight Loss

Well its January, and ‘to loose a few pounds’ is normally on the top of everyone’s list! After taking a year out of modelling, I think its time for me to get back into shape as I have some exciting projects planned for 2011!

Its taken me a year but I’ve managed to put on over a stone…. Now don’t get me wrong, I am okay with my new-found curves but I think its time to get my butt back to the gym and get myself photoshoot friendly! I don’t believe in extreme diets, liquid diets, atkins diets or this maple syrup diet – I would just simply FAINT with no food in my system!

When I want to drop the odd pound or two I simply stop eating junk food and introduce more fruit and veg into my diet. My downfall is carbs, I could live on bread, pasta and CHEESE! When I am getting in shape I just try to eat less of these things. Its so important to eat a well balanced diet so to see results for a long period of time, do the right thing and make some healthy changes!

Fitness

Just.One.More....

I always find it really difficult to get back into a gym routine, if I go for around two weeks in a row I begin to enjoy it! Its getting to this point that’s the hardest. I’ve tried almost every class possible to explore all exercise options and find which one is most enjoyable for me!

If you find yourself getting bored or about to give up, try something different! There are so many different classes nowadays that if you feel the treadmill is just SO boring you wont have an excuse to quit again! One of my favourites is boxing training, I lost weight and toned up equally as fast!

Yoga is amazing if you are looking to tone up and if you are looking for something fun I would strongly recommend ZUMBA, but even simple changes can make a difference, getting off a stop earlier in the morning, or taking the stairs instead of the lift will have you a toned butt in no time!

Heathy Secrets

Yummy....

One thing I absolutely swear by is green tea.  When I am gyming and eating healthier, drinking this makes me feel so revitalised. It has so many health benefits, and It makes my skin look amazing after only a few weeks. They say it helps when trying to loose weight so I am all for that! I also love those dissolvable vitamin drinks, they taste great and its good to take extra vitamins especially at this time of year when colds and flu are rife!

Obviously this is just a few of the things I like to do when getting in shape, everyone is different and its important to find what works for you! So good luck gyming it!

Stay beautiful

Karly Ashworth Discusses Kenneth Tong & His ‘Managed Anorexia’ Fascination

Ladies, I have been outraged over the past week to see someone I used to know to has turned into something of a hate figure. Whilst I can’t go into the details of our past, I thought my blog would be a great platform to tell you all that this whole size zero debacle is completely absurd.

As you all know, Kenneth and I were once a couple (and he even continued to Tweet under my name for a good year) but since he dropped the Karly Ashworth tag, Kenneth has embarked on a tirade of insults against women, and it makes me hang my head in shame that I was once associated with him.

Size Zero? I Don't Think So....

This latest fascination of his is quite humorous because it’s clearly a publicity stunt on his part, the truth is, people are outraged by WHAT he is saying and could not actually care less who he is – of course he will think differently – but let’s face it… a homeless guy could come off the street, tweet the exact same things and have the same public battering, celebrity interest and be a Trending Topic alongside the likes of Victoria Beckham.

It’s a sad cry for attention which I urge you ladies of all shapes and sizes to ignore… I’m no size zero, and to be quite honest, I’d rather be known for doing nothing, than to be known as a HATE figure. To me, a person who measures there popularity by how many twitter followers they have must be a very empty person.

Size Zero? I Don't Think So....

Speaking of the content of this Twitter page, anorexia is not something that can be ‘managed’ as he claims. Anorexia is an illness, if this was a ‘manageable’ disease, do you not think that we could have in fact eradicated it completely?!

The only way this disease can be managed is when sufferers are managing their eating habits on the way to recovery, so for someone to endorse such a devastating illness is SICKENING! His words could potentially damage the health of young girls not only suffering from anorexia, but for others who may eventually develop the disease.

To me, the mere fact that Twitter are allowing him to use their service as a platform for his ignorance is shocking, the simple thing to do, would be for them to delete his account and get rid of the vile remarks. Surely they have to see this as a very serious situation?! Or then again, seen as he’s STILL talking, maybe not!

If he is going to continue bleating on about weight and body size, then perhaps Kenneth should try to practice what he’s preaching rather than being a keyboard warrior behind the safety of the computer whilst rubbing a double chin?! I mean all those Twitpics of Kenneth eating day in, day out has surely has to take its toll?! So why not try and slim down to a size 0 yourself Kenneth? I fear that he would be soon telling everyone that curves are in and to start eating again!

As for me, I am proud to promote curves and would STRONGLY advise all ladies to take no notice of the whole anorexia chat on Twitter. After suffering from bulimia myself after Big Brother, I know how difficult it is to live with an eating disorder and to overcome it, but I did (and I ditched Kenneth Tong and his archaic opinions) and now I feel better than ever.

Embrace your shape, live healthily, don’t live up to a mans expectations, be who you are and change for no one but yourself! Feeling good is all about how you feel, If you feel good in your own skin, that will show!

HELL NO SIZE ZERO!

Karly’s Christmas Blog : Its Christmasssss!

It’s always at this time of year that you stop and think, “This year has gone so fast!’” And for me, it most certainly has!

It usually hits you on Christmas Day when you have a belly full of turkey and a moment to sit, relax and look back on the 365 days of happy, sad and exciting moments you have had over the past year.

My year began with a huge turning point in my life, I decided to go back to Australia where I’d spent six months of 2010 in the gorgeous city of Melbourne… I was looking to find myself and a ‘new beginning.’ After Big Brother I had made a few bad decisions but after cutting them out of my life, my decision to move to Australia really turned my life around in the most positive way possible!

It was then that FemaleFirst approached me to write a column for them, of course I was delighted and have been writing for them ever since, I began with my travel tales of OZ and what projects I was getting up to over there – I managed to continue my modelling, audition for a part in a major movie and bagged a job at the Formula 1!

Most importantly though, throughout my time there I was able to find myself again, my confidence came back and I had the most important person to share it all with me; my lovely boyfriend *who remains nameless.* All you need to know is he is GORGEOUS, and the most amazing person I have ever known.

When we returned to the UK, I started my own business with my friend Julia who I met when we both featured in FHM a few years ago. The business was a complete success and with my busy schedule Julia decided to go solo and her own hair extension business named JUM has taken off brilliantly this year, I am very proud of her. We have had a fantastic time together and are looking forward to the fun in 2011 – It’s very important to have good, loyal friends around, and this year, for once, I was surrounded by them.

In September I got signed to new management, Exclusive Press and Publicity, which was really exciting for me. They have some very exciting projects lined up for me in 2011 so of course – like half of the UK population -  one of my New Years resolutions is to hit that gym and get photoshoot ready so you guys (and girlies) can see me back in those magazines again! I also plan to travel to at least four new destinations next year, and of course a move back to Australia is on the cards!

To sum this year up I can honestly say it has been one of the most positive years of my life, I have loved every second of it and plan to be even more successful next year! It’s not about how much you have in life, or possessions or money, I have learned the only way to experience true happiness and live a fulfilled life is to surround yourself by the people you love and the people who love you.

I want to take this time to wish all my followers a very Merry Christmas, and hope you all have an AMAZING new year!

2011 BRING. IT. ON!!!!!!!

Karly Ashworth : Fashion & Compassion

The other week I attended a fabulous charity fashion show event called ‘Fashion & Compassion’ in aid of the wonderful charity JUMP. I think the work they do is so inspiring and was absolutely thrilled to be a part of the whole fundraising experience.

To tell you about the charity ,J-U-M-P Stands for Jacobs Unique Memory Pot and is a registered charity providing memory packages for sick and disabled children and their families. J-U-M-P began in 2004 to form a Charity in memory of a remarkable little boy Jacob Hawthorn. Jacob was born with Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease that severely affects movement and mobility.

Jacob’s family worked very hard to remove barriers that got in the way of Jacob living as normal a life as possible, his Mum took him on lots of lovely trips so that he could experience lots of different things. His favourite place was Disneyland Paris.

Sadly Jacob passed away on the 13th February 2004, his family found it difficult to deal with his loss, as any family would be. He was a brave, pleasant little boy, who rarely complained although he had a lot of illness to cope with. His family had a wonderful collection of pictures and short films of his adventures and found them a real priceless treasure to cherish his memory.

During the few days after Jacob passed away his Nanna thought what a wonderful tribute it would be to Jacob, to set up a Charity to capture memories for other children who face health challenges.

Hence J-U-M-P was formed. Jacob just loved the song JUMP and so it was fitting to use this as our Charity name. Personally I feel that this is a brilliant, moving, heart felt charity giving families priceless memories that they can cherish forever.

I attended with my lovely new boyfriend, we had such a great night together. I was also joined by my other fellow Big Brother housemates Corin from BB11 & Luke Marsden BB9.

Luke, might I add, was quite the comedian and made my night! Music was provided by Lola ( The Only Way is Essex) and The X Factor girl band Husstle! There were also some gorgeous dresses on show.

I am happy to say that the Charity night was a complete and utter success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Over £2000 was raised, this was all from donations, ticket sales, raffle and auction and am absolutely thrilled I could be part of such a fantastic fundraising night for a wonderful charity.
Check out the website for more info and if you can please donate to help create some precious memories for families who need them most. www.j-u-m-p.org

Karly Ashworth On The X Factor

I’m afraid that headline was a little ambiguous… I’m not actually ON the X Factor… but this weeks blog is going to be all about my views on the show… so let me see those arms high in the air because it is X FACTOR TIME!

After sadly loosing our beloved Big Brother from our screens just a few weeks ago, the whole of the nation have bonded together to metaphorically kiss the genius that is Simon Cowell’s feet for filling the empty television void! Woohoo!

It has to be said, no matter how busy I am or what I have planned, this show always manages to sneak its way in to my social calendar. To put it frankly, this show ROCKS!

From what I’ve seen already, this could be the most controversial year yet, with bootcamp becoming tougher, more celebrity judges to nit pick and even a PROSTITUTE taking a stab at it! Hmmm.

I know its early days but I have a few favourites already, The Reason, for quite OBVIOUS reasons, lil miss Cheryl Cole lookalike Cher Lloyd and my guilty pleasure… Diva Fever!

Like the rest of the British public, I’m still scratching my head trying to decide who is the hottest out of Cheryl or Nicole and now YouTubing the bunch of numpties that didn’t quite make the cut!

I am now off to sing into my hairbrush, who says I don’t have The X Factor?!!!

Karly Ashworth Is SO Over The Drama Of Frenimies

We’ve all heard the saying; ‘Who needs friends when you have enemies?’ and this week that’s ringing true with me more than ever. In the world of backstabbing and bitchiness, I often used to find myself embroiled in in a troublesome concoction of jealousy, hate and deceit and at long last, I couldn’t be more relieved to realise that I am one of the lucky few to have escaped the dreaded ‘small town mentality’, never to return EVER again.

I’ve been double crossed, backstabbed, lied to and even stolen from by people I was closest to, my very own ‘friends’, and that has hurt me so much in the past. Sometimes I blame the society they were brought up in and the people they were surrounded by – a place where no one had any morals or principles – where women thought it was okay to sleep with there friends husband as long as she didn’t find out, or the guy thinks its okay to text more than one girl at the same time. There were girls who forced their boyfriends into marriage because they thought a ring on his finger would stop him straying and blokes who thought one night stands were just part of the Friday lads night out routine.

Whilst all this was happening right in front of my eyes, was I the only one who stopped and thought, that we are all brought up to know what’s right and what’s most definitely wrong so why can’t people act like decent human beings and treat others as they wish to be treated?

After a lot of talking with my close friends, I have come to realise that they all suffer from what I like to call ‘small town mentality.’ Come on girls, everyone has said it at least once; “I hate this town, everyone knows my business.” And it’s so true; insecurities lead people like that to take an unhealthy interest in others lives and in doing so, they just can’t bear to see anyone else happy or having more than they have. People like these will live in the fish bowl that they know for the test of their existence, drowning in a life of sorrow, hate and bitterness.

So what am I getting at? Well I thing it’s important to know who is loyal to you, I often think the best quality in a person is honesty, because if someone is upfront with you, you will always know where you stand, positivity and having family and true friends around is also a good step in the right direction to contentment. Learning to accept that you can rise above these people and forgive what hurt they have caused you will allow you to get on with your life.

As the saying goes, “Small people will try to keep you small, but great people will make you become great,” and you know what? I strongly believe you are the company you keep, that’s why I surround myself with the greatest people I know!

It’s a great feeling to know you can stand high on your Cloud 9, looking down at the tadpoles that screwed you over, just swimming in their miserable little fishbowl that is – and always will be – life as they know it.

Oh, and for the record…. I can’t hear you from up here biatches!

Untill next time… Karly x

Karly Ashworth’s Weekly Fashion Pick – Clever Clogs!

Well, what better way to celebrate the upcoming spring season by snapping up a pair of the hottest must-have shoe? S shocked you may be but it is indeed…The CLOG!

Although some will remain firm haters of the clog, it has been given a modern day makeover and is now the biggest footwear trend of 2010! I suppose you can only compare them to marmite, you either love it or hate it, either way you cant deny their popularity this season.

Aldo Clog £85

Since Chanel’s SS2010 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week included a heavy amount of clogs dressed with feminine fashion, it left a frenzy of popularity and the British high street are hot on their heels to ensure we can all look good at a reasonable cost!

asos £85

Clogs look great with almost anything, girlie dresses, tights and even cute shorts and tops for a complete summery look, not only that, but they can be sported for any number of occasions, and if that isn’t enough to you they are a good investment then I don’t know what will!

River island £54.99

Don’t blow all your summer savings on them though, they may be a strong look this year but it isn’t completely safe to say they are going to stay around for years to come, I mean its not a Hermes bag we are buying here. So I’ve picked the best high street clogs at a reasonable budget to keep both our feet and our purses happy!

Topshop clog £80

Clip clop ladies!

Karly Ashworth Introduces MAK

I always remember my high school yearbook entry saying; “I WILL become famous, be a successful glamour model & own my own business.” I never knew how I was going to do any of there things, I just KNEW I was going to make it.

As you can imagine, my entry lead to everyone looking at each other with raised eyebrows and the expected response of ‘yeah right’ was probably running through their heads at that point… but I am proud to say to them all now “Here I am! I did it!” I’ve become famous thanks to my glamour modelling and of course through Big Brother last year, and now I’ve finally ticked the final box after setting up my own business.

My business partner Julia Macmillan – who you might know as one of the gorgeous FHM models – and I both know the importance of looking and feeling great, so with our combined knowledge of both the modelling world and all things girlie, ‘MAK’ was born.

MAK incorporates our names, Macmillan and Karly, and specialises in 100% human remy hair extensions, Micro bonded and Micro Ring methods in order to give customers choice and the best possible product available to them! Our team are at home, mobile and we even have a room in the gorgeous West End of Glasgow!

The best of it is, MAK offers glue free extensions with undetectable bonds and we work in a personal, calming environment away from the hustle and bustle of a salon. Not only that, but we’re lucky enough to be in talks with a top Edinburgh boutique nightclub to offer exclusive sponsorship and will be holding open free consultations in Glasgow and Edinburgh soon so come along and say “Hello.”

At only 22, it makes me so proud to say I own my own business and its just so rewarding to make others happy and having hair extensions does wonders for self-confidence! We have had a lot of support and although it is challenging starting a business, the benefits are well worth it, that said I couldn’t have done it without my gorgeous business partner Julia, she is fabulous!

I am in such a happy place in my life right now with a new start, new boyfriend, new agent and new business! All negative and bad memories of last year have been erased and has been replaced with a positive future! It just goes to show if you really want something, and just KNOW that you can get it, you really can achieve anything.

Did YOU See Karly Ashworth @ TITP? Here’s What She Got Up To.

T in the Park has always been Scotland’s most successful music Festival and this year was no different as once again it was full to the brim with die hard patriotic Scots, and guess what? I was lucky enough to get myself a Sunday ticket and boy was it worth the hangover the next day!

The rain saw festival-goers and campers drenched head to toe in thick mud but it did nothing to stop the party or dampen the mood, the whole place was buzzing with everyone just so excited and happy to be there!

I had been due to go backstage and interview some up and coming bands for FemaleFirst – including my new friends in Hip Parade – however I could only get up on the Sunday so found myself dancing with nothing more than a Scotland flag on to Dizze Rascal and Jay Z!

‘He’s just a Rascal, a Dizzee Rascal’ were the words to greet us in the crowd and that was it, I was dancing my feet to the bone! The blast of music sent the entire crowd crazy, especially since Dizzee has a bit of a reputation for being the crown prince of rap, but a Prince his is most certainly not… after his blinding performance at T I can tell you he is NO other rappers warm-up man!

Well, apart from maybe Jay-Z, who made the most of a video countdown to add to the tension before he leapt onto stage. As it counted down from 10, 9, 8… I thought my eardrums were going to burst, and they pretty much did when the band strike up and Jay appears. What.A.God.

‘I like the way this is going’ he tells us ‘ you got it up to 10. But this is T in the Park – so turn it all the way up to 99!’ And at that moment, out blasts 99 Problems, the highest of the sets many exceptional highlights. On that point though, I’d like to apologise now to all the peoples toes I stood on from dancing like a maniac!

Once I had danced in the darkness with David Guetta I came out just in time to see the finale fireworks being set off to mark the end of another successful year at T, and the loss of my festival virginity too! This was my FIRST ever concert/ festival I have ever been to and words can’t describe how much fun I had! I’d like to thank my gorgeous boyfriend who managed to get his hands on one of the sold out tickets so I could go and experience my FIRST ever concert with friends!

T in the Park… I WILL be seeing you next year!

Karly Ashworth : My Likes & Loathes Of This Year’s BB

Nothing beats a bit of Big Brother fever to officially start off our summer, and this year I am absolutely loving the set up of the house… it’s so inviting, fun and glamorous unlike our ‘recession’ house last year with it’s uncomfortable seats, NO storage space and rubbish kitchen, this years housemates are able to chillax in their very own ‘nest’ outside, have a gorgeous open plan kitchen and EVEN a huge closet to store all their gladrags!

Obviously as time goes on, opinions can change on the housemates but I have a few favourites already… Corin, Josie and JJ! Corin is my ultimate favourite; her accent, humour and diary room rants were enough to win me over and I really hope she makes it to the final! I always love a people’s champion!

There’s not much I loathe about this show (at the minute anyway) but only a few weeks in and already have a walker, now that REALLY irritates me… Shabby, Shabs, Scabby, whatever you prefer to call her, took it upon herself to leave the Big brother house claiming it was ‘her time to go.’

If there is one thing I hate about Big Brother, its when the contestants walk! I mean, after spending months of gruelling auditions, being put in hiding and basically given the best opportunity of your life handed to you on a plate as a reward, they decide that living in a house and having fun for the summer is ‘too much’ for them. I’m sorry but get a grip of yourself! I find it extremely ungrateful and disrespectful to the other BB hopefuls who were not as lucky to have made it on to the show.

I am also hating the ‘save and replace’ task, (can you tell I’m on my soapbox now!?), I mean yeah it brings conflict to the house and adds a bit of excitement, but is it really necessary EVERY week?! Personally I think it defeats nominations and cheats others of how far they COULD have gotten!

I’m sure the twist at the end of Big Brother 11 will be enough to keep us all on the edge of our seat and ensure this series goes out with an almighty bang! Stay tuned…..
