Topshop vs. Alexander Mcqueen: The skull cuff

I fell in love with the Alexander McQueen skull cuff as soon as I saw it, but not the designer price tag that goes along with it.

The skull details are the signature of Alexander McQueen, but thankfully the high street have got their own version that we can snag.

Topshop have brought out a similar version with rhinestone details, the only downside is the skull is just on the one side of the cuff. But for £7.50 you really can’t complain.

So which is your favourite out of the two? And more importantly which one will you be buying?

Fashion Pick of the Day: Alexander McQueen print scarf

Alexander McQueen’s beautiful scarf have been circulating at the top of lust lift for quite a few years now.

Yes, of course I love the classic skull print versions, but there are some other gorgeous prints too.

This orange dragonfly, bird and skull print silk one will compliment the beautiful tangerine Heroine bag that I’m dreaming of too. The Alexander McQueen Heroine bag is definitely going to be the bag of the season.

A truly fashionable affair

I love it when these types of films come out because it means the promo tour is going to filled with plenty of amazing fashion choices, and the LA premiere of What to Expect When You’re Expecting did not disappoint.

Not only did we have the beauties, Brooklyn Decker, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Anna Kendrick to fawn over. Chace Crawford also made an appearance – eye candy that we love.

Each of the ladies opted for very different fashion choices, and each was as beautiful as the last. No one tried to outshine the other.

Brooklyn Decker - Her Giambattsta Valli Spring 2012 dress gave the perfect beach, laidback vibe. Which she obviously paired with loose waves. I love the lemon and lime colour on her.

Elizabeth Banks  - The actress has been on a roll the past few months, each of her red carpet appearances have left me in awe. Her Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2012 is beautiful, she added a matching knuckle-duster clutch.

Cameron Diaz - Once again she opted for a Little Black Dress, this time Valentino. I don’t roll my eyes at this look though because I really love her nude Lanvin Pumps and the pops of colour she added on her nails and lips. As always, the most enviable figure.

Jennifer Lopez - Diva Lopez is actually a lot less flash than I was expecting. I love this style on her and think that this Maria Lucia Hohan dress would sit perfectly well in my wardrobe. Jennifer is the latest star to have a statement lip, a trend which was prevalent at the Met Gala last week. She looks super sexy, like always.

Anna Kendrick - There’s not much else to say when a star wears Elie Saab. His dresses are INCREDIBLE. That’s it, that’s all there is to say.

Angelina Jolie’s wedding dresses

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will soon be tying the knot and designers are itching to be the one to dress her.

And why not, look what Kate Middleton done for Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

Badgely Mischka, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra all submitted their designs to People Magazine, of what they would dress the actress in on her big day, if they were to get the esteemed task.

“[Something] like this [pictured above, left] would be perfect for Angelina,” Mark Badgley and James Mischka told the magazine. “It’s beaded bodice would give her just the right amount of sparkle, and the fitted tulle skirt with godets makes it elegant and totally glamorous.”

Monique Lhuiller has a different idea though, she explains:

“Angie has style. She takes a classic look and adds a sultry, sexy edge and makes it her own.”

But if the actress were to chose the Lebanese designer, Reem Acra for her big day she’d have a dress that’s more slinky. (Above, right)

So, which out of these three should she opt for?

The only answer we really want answering by the bride-to-be though is, where is our invitation and will ‘the leg’ be making an appearance?

Top 10 moments from Paris Fashion Week…

I think any fashion follower will admit that we saw something good  special in Paris Fashion Week.

With collections reminiscent of by-gone eras, including the swinging 60s courtesy of Phoebe Philo and Celine and the stunning mermaid creations that washed up on the shores of Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton.

I’m sure you’ve already read about the good, the bad and the ugly runway shows, which designers left a lasting impression (for all the right and wrong reasons) and not forgetting the A-List attendants.

So, I thought I’d share with you some of my top Paris Fashion Week moments. If you want to read my full article on all the highs and lows of the event, then here’s the link to

www.femalefirst.co.uk for it: http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/lifestyle-fashion/stylenews/Paris+Fashion+WeekThe+Highs+Lows-12919.html

1. Marc Jacobs’ Christian Dior – Louis Vuitton tug of war. “I could never do this anywhere else, do you know what I mean? Not just the Paris thing, but Vuitton, allows me.” Need I say more?…

2. Alexander McQueen’s beauiful collection decked in decadence and style.

3. The Louis Vuitton runway show. Beautiful clothes, a carousel and Kate Moss. What more could we ask for in the perfect fashion show?

4. Sheer, slashed and chiffon. These are some of the key lasting words from PFW and we cannot wait for s/s 2012 to be upon us to embrace the ultra feminine look.

5. Parisian heat wave. Call it coincidence, but the weather merely heightened the look of the collections. Rarely do we see the s/s lines in weather we will be wearing them in, so if not for a nice change it added atmosphere and ambiance to the week.

6. Pencil and peplum skirts. This is a trend that is already starting to take off (que Cheryl Cole’s appearance on the West End in a monochrome Moschino ). If you’re going for demure, sexy and sophisticated next season then we cannot think of anything better. Perfect for weddings, race days, evening wear and even the office, one word: STAPLE!

7. Kanye West. He maybe starting to get super annoyed at all the press coverage his less than inspired debut show is receiving, but what did he expect? Don’t talk the fashion talk if you can’t produce on the catwalk!

8. Chanel. If a show had trend setting written on it, this was it. The sheer elegance and pretty hues will be all the rage next spring. On a side note, we’re also looking forward to cracking open the s/s 2012 nail collections too. Named after the months of spring, creamy pinks and peaches – here we come!

9. It wouldn’t be fashion week without pulling in the crowds. We loved star spotting in the audience of Kanye West’s show. Everyone from Beyonce to Ciara turned up for the show – nobody can fault him for pulling in the crowds.

10. Power dressing. We don’t know how they do it, but some designers still manage to pull off power dressing while using pretty pastels, lace and chiffon and we’re impressed. I predict we’ll be reading a lot of these trend reports next season. Combining your female physique with the knut cracker within!

Let the spring/summer countdown commence…

Met to extend McQueen exhibition

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is to extend the Alexander McQueen exhibition – due to its popular demand.

With queues frequently spiralling out of the building it will now be open till August 7 – instead of the previous closing date of July 31.

The retrospective exhibition looks back to the designers work, organised into categories – as opposed to when they were created.

They have also decided to open the exhibit on Mondays when the rest of the museum is closed – but this will cost you an extra $50.

The images featured here are from the exhibition catalogue, which was shot by Solve Sundsbo using real-life models to create movement in the pieces. The images were later digitally mastered to make the models look like mannequins, so not to distract from their beauty.

Ruth’s Saturday Seduction

First we had John Terry and his affairs, then Vernon Kay and saucy texts, and now it looks like our Chezza’s husband, Ashley Cole has jumped on the bandwagon – after sending naked pictures to a topless model.

Alexander McQueen’s suicide has left the fashion industry in shock over the past 24 hours, and already tributes from clients and celebrity admirers have been flooding in. How will YOU remember him?

Good news all you Twihards it looks like Breaking Dawn is going to start filming in October. While no release date has yet been set for the fourth book in the series it will be split into two movies… so there’s extra Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner to look forward to!

Hard to believe the Toy Story kicked off the CGI animation revolution fifteen years ago, and in that time Pixar have become the masters of this genre. But this year Woody, Buzz and co are back in a third Toy Story movie. And, as usual, FemaleFirst is on hand with the first full length trailer for you to enjoy!
