The start of the blockbuster summer is just a fortnight away – that’s when Thor finally blasts onto our screens.

Yes it seems that the summer movies start earlier and earlier every year but, hopefully, Thor will kick off the season in fine style.

Now this is one that I’m looking forward to as Chris Hemsworth leaves his TV days behind him to step into the title role.

And he is joined by Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba as well as Kat Dennings as Kenneth Branagh, the director, has lined up an all star cast.

At the centre of the story is the mighty Thor (Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war.

Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans.

A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love.

It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
