You don’t see Alex Pettyfer on the big screen for a while and them a couple of movies comes along a once. He may be enjoying box office success at the moment with I Am Number Four but he wuill be back later this spring with Beastly.

The movie sees him star alongside Vanessa Hudgens in a modern take on the classic story of Beauty and the Beast.

Seventeen year old Kyle (Pettyfer) is the spoiled, shallow and incredibly popular prince of his high school kingdom. Entirely captivated and empowered by his own physical appearance, Kyle foolishly chooses Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), a witch masquerading as a high school student, as his latest target for humiliation.

Unfazed by his cruel behaviour, Kendra decides to teach him a lesson – she transforms him into someone as unattractive on the outside as he is on the inside.

Now he has one year to find someone who can see past the surface and love him, or he will remain “Beastly” forever. His only hope, a quiet classmate he never noticed named Lindy (Hudgens), may be his best chance to prove that love is never ugly.

Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens team up next year for Beastly, an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Kyle Kingson (Pettyfer) has it all looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity and a wicked cruel streak.

Prone to mocking and humiliating “aggressively unattractive” classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash.

Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises.

Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is, a task he considers impossible.

Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle’s callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper and blind tutor.

As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer.

Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter, Lindy (Hudgens) if she will consent to live in Kyle’s Brooklyn home.

Thus begins Kyle’s journey to discover true love in this hyper-modern retelling of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” story.
