“Kanye, I’ma Let You Finish”

So my life was absolutely made last night when I saw that Kanye West got a taste of his own medicine at the BET Awards.

We all remember three years ago when Kanye pulled that ridiculous stunt of interrupting Taylor Swifts acceptance speech for Best Video to tell the whole world that he thought that Beyonce deserved it?

Well at the BETs Jay-Z give it all back by interrupting his acceptance speech for Best Video. The look on the audiences face was priceless and everyone had a good old laugh.

To be fair, Kanye took it well and laughed along too, claiming that he only did it in the first place to have Beyonce’s back.

I can imagine this year’s BET Awards were very enjoyable to watch, for Taylor Swift especially.

Celebrity Baby Names

Most parents open the baby names book and go with Adam or Anna, keep it simple and easy because there are too many other important duties to be doing over choosing a name. Not celebrities, oh no.

The celeb baby name choices seem to be getting stranger as the years go on, almost like it’s some sort of competition.

The latest baby in Hollywood is baby Pearl, daughter of Jack Osbourne and Lisa Stelly. Now, I quite like the name Pearl, it’s unusual but pretty so I can live with it but then you look back a few months and that’s when the names get really weird.

Beyonce and Jay Z named their daughter Blue Ivy, now I love Beyonce and Jay Z but come one, who on earth names their daughter Blue?

Then there was Hilary Duff naming her son Luca, it’s like she forgot to right the ‘s’ on the birth certificate and then just went along with it. Lastly, and by far the worst, Peaches Geldof and fiancée Thomas Cohen named their son Astala.

Yes, Astala. No, I have no idea what it means or where it came from either. All I know is that Peaches better put some money aside because as soon as Astala realises exactly how ridiculous that name is he’ll be running straight down to the courts to get it changed.

Expect great things from Beyonce’s maternity line…

Things are never simple in Hollywood. Even the concept of having a child (something that A-listers and everyday people surely do the same) is different.

Yes, of course I’m talking about Babyonce.

In the short space of time since Beyonce and Jay Z have announced they are expecting their first child together, a lot has happened. Not only was it revealed in a pretty amazing way (because you’re just not getting it right if you’re not on stage at a major awards ceremony rubbing your bump anymore…) but since then drama, hysteria and excitement has enveloped for the notorious private R&B golden couple.

Beyone has since launched her own clothing line with her mum for Selfridges, celebrated her 30th birthday with a luxury holiday with her hubby and announced that she would love to design her own maternity collection.

Oh and caused a stir with her supposed ‘fake baby bump’ (and I was sucked in for a moment too myself) and subsequent rumours of surrogates and adoptions – all of which have been slammed by the representatives for the couple (phew…order is restored) and we can all be back on our way, waiting for little junior to arrive in February.

While Beyonce’s House of Dereon received mixed reviews, many saying that the line was trying to do too much and had far too many references to gel together as a collection, a maternity line would be right up her street.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman. It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant.”

After her red carpet appearance decked in the orange Lanvin gown, I have a strong feeling that this might just be suited to the lovely Miss Knowles…

Who knows, we may even be seeing a childrens’ line in the future too?

Miss Bala Trailer

Gerardo Naranjo’s latest feature, Miss Bala, explores the many extremes of modern Mexican society when the world of beauty pageants and the current drug war collide.

Miss Bala tells the story of Laura (Stephanie Sigman), a young aspiring beauty queen who finds her dream turned against her when she unwillingly gets involved with a criminal group at war in today’s lawless Mexico.

The seed for Miss Bala was planted on December 24, 2008 when producer Pablo Cruz came across a newspaper story abut a beautiful woman accused of being involved with a drug cartel.

Sensing that this fragment of a story could be expanded into a gripping film, Cruz telephoned director Gerardo Naranjo to ask if he’d read the story; Naranjo, too, had read the story and been struck by it, and both agreed it could be translated to the movie screen.

Miss Bala is released in cinemas on 28th October 2011

Leaked images of W’s front cover

Here we have the leaked images of the July ‘Music & Style’ issue of W magazine.

On the left we have Beyonce, who in my opinion has the better cover (but maybe that’s because I have an unrequited love for her?!) and on the right is Christina Aguilera – who looks unrecognisable. Really though, I couldn’t actually tell who it was. Can you see it?

Who do you think has the better cover, let us know with your comments posted below.

Ruth’s Saturday Sin

Beyonce is always very secretive about her private life, but could the cat be out of the bag after reports of her being pregnant have started to emerge? She and hubby Jay-Z are keeping quiet, but we smell a bun in the oven…

OMG! My mum is going to actually scream her head off when she reads this… it looks as though ABBA are planning to reform for a one-off performance! Lets hope it’s not like Michael Jackson’s ‘return’ eh?

Sam Worthington has admitted that he felt he wasn’t right for the part of Bond, despite meeting up with Casino Royale filmmaker Martin Campbell. However something tells me he’s not too bothered with the biggest grossing movie of all time under his belt!

Check out the motion poster for new comedy movie The Other Guys. Now I know that it’s not a trailer but anything with Mark Wahlberg on is well worth a watch!

Grammy Award Nominations 2010 – Ruth’s Picks

Okay, so the Grammy Award nominations have been announced, and an awards list just wouldn’t be the same without me picking my favourite! So below with the list of the lucky nominees in each category, and who I’ll be betting my chocolate coins on…

Song of the Year

‘Poker Face’ Lady GaGa
‘Pretty Wiings’ Maxwell
‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’ Beyoncé
‘Use Somebody’ Kings of Leon
‘You Belong With Me’ Taylor Swift

I’m betting a coin on  POKER FACE – LADY GAGA to win – Simply because I HAVE to listen to this song before I go out on a Friday night, it really gets my dancing feet moving.

Pop Duo or Group With Vocals

Black Eyed Peas, ‘I Gotta Feeling’
Bon Jovi, ‘We Weren’t Born to Follow’
The Fray, ‘Never Say Never’
Daryl Hall and John Oates, ‘Sara Smile’
MGMT, ‘Kids’

I’m betting a coin on BLACK EYED PEAS – I GOTTA FEELING to win – Another song I can’t help but dance to, regardless of if I’m in a club, my car or sat at my desk.

Best Rock Album

AC/DC, ‘Black Ice’
Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, ‘Live From Madison Square Garden’
Green Day ’21st Century Breakdown’
Dave Matthew Band, ‘Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King’
U2, ‘No Line on the Horizon’

I’m betting a coin on GREEN DAY – 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN to win – not because I think it’s better than all the other albums in the running, but because I’ve been a Green Day fan since I was about 13, so I’m sticking by them.

Best Rap Solo Performance

Drake, ‘Best I Ever Had’
Eminem, ‘Beautiful’
Jay-Z, ‘D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)’
Kid Cudi, ‘Day ‘N’ Nite’
Mos Def, ‘Casa Bey’

I’m betting a coin on EMINEM – BEAUTIFUL to win – because he really is beautiful.

Record of the Year

Beyoncé, ‘Halo’
Black Eyed Peas, ‘I Gotta Feeling’
Kings of Leon, ‘Use Somebody’
Lady GaGa, ‘Poker Face’
Taylor Swift, ‘You Belong With Me’

I’m betting a coin on  BEYONCE to win – not my favourite song out of all of them, personally I prefer the BEP’s, but I think this song was amazing, and deserves the prize.

Album of the Year

Beyoncé, ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’
Black Eyed Peas, ‘The E.N.D.’
Lady GaGa, ‘The Fame’
Dave Matthew Band, ‘Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King’
Taylor Swift, ‘Fearless’

I’m betting a coin on LADY GAGA – THE FAME to win – I LOVE this album, it’s never got old… however, Beyonce and Taylor Swift have been pretty lucky with awards this year, so I reckon it will be one of them.

Best New Artist

Zac Brown Band
Keri Hilson
MGMT
Silversun Pickups
The Ting Tings

I’m betting a coin on MGMT to win – however, neither the Ting Tings or MGMT are new this year as I remember writing about them last year…

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance

Adele, ‘Hometown Glory’
Beyoncé, ‘Halo’
Katy Perry, ‘Hot N Cold’
Pink, ‘Sober’
Taylor Swift, ‘You Belong With Me’

I’m betting a coin on PINK – SOBER to win – Pink is my absolute hero, I think if I was going to be like anyone in the music business it would HAVE to be her, she is an utter legend.

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance

John Legend ‘This Time’
Maxwell, ‘Love You’
Jason Mraz, ‘Make It Mine’
Seal, ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’
Stevie Wonder, ‘All About the Love Again’

I’m betting a coin on STEVIE WONDER – ALL ABOUT THE LOVE AGAIN to win – you just can’t give it to anyone else.

Do you agree?

Ruth’s Sunday Shakedown

There’s nothing like Beyonce in a corset and suspenders to get the MTV party started and that’s exactly what she did as she walked away with three gongs on Thursday night.

Despite being linked to some of the world’s most beautiful women Gerard Butler claims that he always falls in love with the wrong girls. Get behind me girlies I’m first in the queue.

Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian was one of the best family movies of 2009, and enjoyed just as much success as it’s predecessor. I caught up with the movie’s director Shawn Levy to see if there are any more movies on the horizon.

Kanye West – Who the HELL Does He Think He Is?

Kanye West might be renowned as one of the best Hip Hop artists around, but last nights debacle at the MTV Video Music Award will have probably seen him plummet in the cool stakes.

The singer, who isn’t immune to meltdowns at award ceremonies, lept onto the stage whilst Taylor Swift was accepting the gong for Best Female Music Video and started rambling on about how Beyonce should have won!

Now I’ve got to admit that I don’t always agree with award ceremonies winners, but I wouldn’t go careering onto the stage and a) making myself look like a total ass, and b) ruining someone’s happiness.

Whilst everyone thinks Beyonce, dancing around in a white room with some bizarre glove on might be fantastic, personally I think it’s not, as Kanye put it, “The best video ever made” come on Kanye, you need to take those radiator sunglasses off, they’re playing havoc with your eyesight.

So, is it just me, or has Kanye made a right tit of himself, and do you think it’s just a bit of a celeb crush Mr West might have? Jay-Z might have had 99 problems before, but I guess it might be bumped up to 100 now?

Ruth Gives Wednesday A Whirl

Now, isn’t this convenient…? Despite denying that his split from Katie Price was a publicity stunt, Peter Andre has only gone and bagged himself a new record deal. Now, if we were the sceptical type we would think that Pete has done pretty well for himself after ditching his ex glamour model wife and grabbing loads of headlines in the process…

Oasis star Liam Gallagher is well known for his loud and lairy attitude, and it seems it got the better of him at a soccer match this weekend after exchanging insults with fans. Isn’t it great that this fellow is considered one of the UK’s finest musicians…?

We take a look at whether or not Green Day’s new album, 21st Century Breakdown lives up the expectations that come with having to wait five years for a follow-up… can Billie Joe Armstrong win over the new rock hearts?

She’s almost as famous for her wild party lifestyle as her modelling work but it seems we won’t be seeing anymore pictures of Kate Moss falling out of clubs blearly eyed in the early hours. The supermodel is to swap her wild ways for a life of calm after converting to Buddhism. We’ll believe it when we see it.

So, Beyonce reckons she’s not that into fashion huh?! This coming from the lady who was papped in the £1,500 YSL cages heels last week, and wears Christian Louboutins round the house just for fun. Yeah, sounds like she’s completely unaffected by the latest trends to me…

The claws are well and truly out on the set of Iron Man 2 as Gwyneth Paltrow is rumoured to be jealous of the attention that Scarlett Johansson, a new member of the cast, is receiving onset. Oi Gwinnie love just chill out and ignore this two bit actress, wave your Oscar in her face as she will never get her hands on one!

Well, well, well boys and girls, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for… FemaleFirst’s Band Wars 2009 is now open for entries and we want YOU!If you’re in a band, or you know someone in a band who might want to get their little mitts on a weekend at a top London Recording Studio, some promotion from Momentum PR and the chance to get your hands on some Glamour Kills merch; then look no further… because July 12 is your chance to sort it out! Email bands@femalefirst.co.uk for more details.
