How to save a bob on hairstyling this season…

Hairstylist to the stars, Christian Wood, has teamed up with E.ON to create some energy efficient hairstyles this winter.

Looks including natural waves, polished curls and pin curls are all heat and electricity free ways of achieving the hottest celebrity styles just in time for the party season.

“I’m really passionate about saving energy so really want to show the UK how you can get amazing hairstyles without always reaching for your straighteners, tongs or other electrical gadgets.

“There are so many clever techniques out there which can give you really great looks but without the worry of the heat damaging your hair or the electricity adding to your energy bill,” explains Christian.

How to get the look without turning up the heat

Natural waves

Braids are a great classic way to give your hair an on-trend beach wave look. To get this look without turning up the tongs:

- Once you’ve washed your hair, run some basic product through your hair and put it into two braids and sleep in them overnight

- In the morning shake out your braids for beautiful, natural wavy hair

Polished curls

For polished curls guaranteed to turn heads this party season ditch the heat and let nature work its magic:

- Divide your hair into small sections and wrap around large Velcro rollers to create body and height

- There’s no need to use a hairdryer for this look, simply keep the rollers in whilst you do your make-up

- Once your face is painted to perfection, take the rollers out to reveal polished curls that would make Kate Middleton jealous

Pin curls

With the vintage revival in full swing you can create your own 40s-inspired look simply without getting hot under the collar:

- Start at the front of your head working backwards

- Wrap two inch sections of hair around your fingers to form a curl

- Remove your fingers and pin the curl to you head using kirby grips

- Blast your hair for a couple of minutes to heat the pin curls
Leave to set for as long as possible while you do your make-up or the housework. ??If you have the time sleep in the curls for extra effect

Go to bed as usual and awake to perfect pin curls in the morning

As well as his top styles for avoiding heat on the hair, Christian offers his top 5 products to cut down on energy use this season:

1. Dry shampoo

- Washing your hair too regularly is not good for your hair. Dry shampoo is a great tip for giving your do a fresh look and add volume to lifeless hair.

2. Beach/salt spray – Great for creating texture and waves.

3. Serum

- Helps to smooth the hair without using straightners or hot-brushes, which consumer energy.

4. Conditioning treatments

- For a quick 10 minute treatment, you can have hair in better condition, meaning it takes less time to style.

5. Hairspray – Brilliant for up-dos or smoothing the hair out. By holding the hair longer, it means it doesn’t have to be styled as often.

You can also save time and energy with Christian’s styling tips:

- Wear your hair in a tight bun to take away the frizz.

- With celebrities turning to the up-do for the red carpet recently. Go for the popular ponytail, trendy top knots and messy buns.

- If you require straighteners, go for the wider panel version as it will take less time to style the hair.

Dancing On Ice : Meet The Celebrities

Dancing On Ice filled the void left by The X Factor, I’m A Celebrity and Strictly this weekend, and thanks t the lovely people over at ITV, we are able to bring you the lowdown on all this years contestants!

Bobby Davro
Age – 50
Occupation -  Comedian and actor
Special skills – Making us laugh

Comedian and panto regular Bobby Davro doesn’t think he’s got a chance of winning the show – but that’s not going to stop him entertaining the crowds. He tells ITV; “I’ve got more chance of being handcuffed to a ghost than winning,”

Bobby has three daughters who will be supporting him through the show. He’s also a keen angler, golf player and fan of Tottenham Hotspur FC.

And their dancing partner is… Molly Moenkhoff – US International Medallist Molly is making her Dancing On Ice debut this year.

Danniella Westbrook
Age – 36
Occupation – Actress
Special skills – Being dramatic

EastEnders star Danniella is well known for getting in a lather on Albert Square – so we’re hoping the soapy star doesn’t slip up on the rink! Amazingly though, aged 11, she skated across Albert Square as an extra in EastEnders – and her sister is a figure skater. So, she has no excuse for being rubbish!

And their dancing partner is… Matthew Gonzalez – US star Matthew is a new face in this year’s competition.

Danny Young
Age – 23
Occupation – Actor
Special skills – Football

Danny is best known for his role as footballer Warren Baldwin in Coronation Street, after dribbling his way onto the cobbles in 2005. He may not be the greatest dancer, but what he lacks in talent he makes up with enthusiasm, claiming he’s going to “throw some shapes” on the ice. Brilliant.

And their dancing partner is… Frankie Poultney – Sheffield’s own Frankie is a professional British adagio skater and has previously skated as well as reaching the 2008 finals with Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain.

Dr Hilary Jones
Age – 56

GMTV doctor and sports fanatic Dr Hilary has no worries about his fitness, but he’s pretty concerned about having two left feet – especially since he’s admitted to dancing like a dad at a disco! Cringe!

Gary Lucy
Age – 28
Occupation – Actor
Special skills – Plodding along

Gary is the face of teen soaps in my eyes, and I’ve grown up watching him on like likes of Footballers’ Wives, Hollyoaks and The Bill – what’s more, just like me, Gary’s petrified of losing his fingers in a skating accident!

And their dancing partner is… Maria Filippov -

Bulgarian Champion Maria won Dancing On Ice Australia before joining the UK show for the second series;  partnering Duncan James and Gareth Gates before winning the show last year with Ray Quinn.

Emily Atack
Age – 20
Occupation – Actress
Special skills – Singing and tanning

The Inbetweeners star lists her hobbies as acting, singing, shopping and fake tan – err, I don’t really think fake tanning can be classed as a hobby!) which makes her an ideal candidate for Dancing On Ice.

ith Kay Burley, Sarah Greene, Zaraah Abrahams and Melinda Messenger.

Hayley Tamaddon
Age -  32

Heather Mills
Age – 41
Occupation – Charity campaigner (Ahem!)
Special skills – Activism

In 1993, Heather lost the lower part of her left leg after being hit by a motorbike while crossing a road, and despite a very public divorce losing her legions of fans, she has entered the show to give children with the same disability as her the inspiration to do things they might not think they’re capable of.

And their dancing partner is… Matt Evers – Wowing the crowds on Dancing On Ice isn’t Matt’s only passion, as the multi-talented star is also an actor, model and presenter! Matt has previously skated with Bonnie Langford, Lisa Scott-Lee, Suzanne Shaw and Zoe Salmon.

Jeremy Sheffield
Age – 43
Occupation – Actor
Special skills – Ballet dancing

Former Holby City Jeremy trained as a ballet dancer – but had his dream career cut short after suffering a broken toe and torn ligament, but now Jeremy’s determined to show he has the poise to make it all the way to the Dancing On Ice final.

And their dancing partner is… Susie Lipanova – British international skater Susie has skated with Todd Carty and Steve Backley on the show, and she’s also married to another Dancing On Ice professional skater, Andrei Lipanov.

Kieron Richardson
Age – 23
Occupation – Actor
Special skills – Playing the bad boy

Hollyoaks star Kieron is used to playing bad boy Ste Hay on the Channel 4 show, and is hoping that his nicer side will show though during Dancing On Ice. What’s more, he’s looking forward to wearing the costumes, but is more excited about the fake tan!

And their dancing partner is… Brianne Delcourt – Canadian ice debutante Brianne first put on a pair of skates at the tender age of two, skating on the homemade rink her father made every winter by flooding their back yard.

Mikey Graham
Age – 37
Occupation – Singer
Special skills – Comeback King

Mikey doesn’t do things by halves – He’s sold over 10 million records in his time with Boyzone, and had five No.1 hits, so expect to see a lot from his this series! Speaking to ITV, he said; “The ice man cometh!”

And their dancing partner is… Melanie Lambert – Mel was crowned Dancing On Ice Champion in her first outing in the second series with Kyran Bracken, before teaming up with Michael Underwood.

Sharron Davies
Age – 47
Occupation – Presenter
Special skills – Swimming

By the time Sharon hung up her swimsuit in 1994, she’d been a British champion on 20 occasions and broken five World Masters records, when in 995 she joined ITV’s Gladiators as Amazon! Wow, this lady sure is a force to be reckoned with!

And their dancing partner is… Pavel Albrecht – Pavel jetted in from his home in Australia to join the second series of Dancing On Ice in 2006, and has so far partnered Ulrika Jonsson, Samantha Mumba and Jessica Taylor.

Sinitta
Age – 41
Occupation – Singer
Special skills – Dressing to kill

Confident Sinitta firmly believes she’ll be one of the final three contestants. Weird then, that at the time of writing this, she’d already been voted off. Ouch!

And their dancing partner is… Andrei Lipanov – Andrei’s appeared on the show many times, partnering Clare Buckfield, Natalie Pinkham and Gemma Bissix in last year’s show.

Tana Ramsay
Age – 35
Occupation – TV chef

Food fan and TV chef Tana wants to follow in the footsteps of her mother, who used to be a great skater. She’s been married to chef Gordon Ramsay for 14 years, tying the knot at the age of 21.
