A J.J. Abrams movie is always something to be excited about and this is his first venture into the director’s chair since the terrific Super 8.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have teamed up with Abrams once again and have penned the screenplay for the film – a screenplay that will chart the development of the relationship between Kirk and Spock as well as introduce a new villain.

And when I say new villain I am, of course, talking about Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison in what is the biggest movie role of his career to date.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released 10th May.

New Star Trek Into Darkness Poster

I was a huge fan of Star Trek when J.J. Abrams rebooted the franchise back in 2009 – in fact it should have done a lot better at the box office than it actually did.

So Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the blockbusters that I am really looking forward to next summer, despite the rather daft name for the film.

Abrams is back in the director’s chair while Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will be reprising the roles of Captain Kirk and Spock.

Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho will also be reprising roles from the first film.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the big addition to the movie and while he is set to play the baddie just who he will be playing remains a closely guarded secret.

A new poster for the movie has been revealed:
