The movie has already been a critical and box office success at the U.S. box office and the film has been a major force on the award’s circuit.

The Academy Awards is the not only the highlight of the film year but it is the biggest prize that can be bestowed on a film or an individual.

The 2013 nominations were revealed earlier this week and there are a whole host of Brits in the mix for some big prizes.

British film Les Miserables was one of the big nomination winners as it picked up eight nods in some of the biggest categories.

Directed by Tom Hooper the movie is from Working Title and has enjoyed both critical acclaim as well as box office success since its release.

The movie has picked up a Best Picture nod and will go head to head with Lincoln, Life of Pi, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Armour, Silver Linings and Beasts of the Southern Wild

Hooper may have been overlooked in the Best Director category Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were amongst the acting talent that were recognised.

Anna Karenina was another Working Title movie that also picked up nominations as it was recognised in four categories; cinematography, costume design, original score and production design.

While there was sadly no Best Picture nod for Skyfall the movie did pick up five nominations; cinematography, sound mixing sound editing, original score and original song.

The original song nomination sees Adele thrown into the mix as she wrote Skyfall along with Paul Epworth.

They will go up against tracks from Chasing Ice, Ted, Life of Pi and Les Miserables.

Daniel Day Lewis was the only British actor to receive an acting nomination as he was given the nod for his performance in Lincoln.

The movie sees him take on the title role and he is looking to make it a trio of Best actor wins after receiving gongs for My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood.

As well as all these nods for British talent Bond’s 50th anniversary will be recognised and celebrated at the ceremony.

Congratulations to the all the British nominees and fingers crossed that they will bring home some big prizes.

Nine Images

The musical has been majorly popular at the movies in recent year and a whole host of Oscar winners and famous faces team up for Nine.

Nine is the musical re-telling of Federico Fellini’s semi-autobiographical “8 and a half”. It tells the story of Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), a world famous film director as he confronts an epic mid-life crisis with both creative and personal problems.

He must balance the many women of his life, including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren).

The movie sees Daniel Day Lewis return to the big screen for the first time since his Oscar winning turn in There Will Be Blood in 2008.

Nine Trailer

Despite the fact that I absolutely loathe them the musical has major power at the box office.

Whether that be the traditional musical where all the cast burst into song for no apparent reason or the music biographies such as Ray or Walk the Line they have all found major success.

And having seen this success more and more big names are jumping on the old musical bandwagon, and this can be seen with the new movie Nine.

The film stars and string of Oscar winners including Daniel Day Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson and eeerrr Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.

Famous film director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.
