Pacific Rim Banner

Guillermo del Toro is one of the most exciting directors working in Hollywood and he is FINALLY returning to what he does best this summer with Pacific Rim.

This will be del Toro’s first directorial outing since 2008 as he tackles sci-fi.

The movie promises to be one of the best science fiction movies of the year as robots – controlled by humans – take on an alien invasion.

Check out the latest banner for the film:

Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam lead the cast list and are tasked with saving the world while Charlie Day and Ron Perlman are also on board.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.

To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim is released 12th July

Mama Clips

Mama is set to be the horror movie not to miss this year as it is a Guillermo Del Toro produced project.

If this is anything in the vein of The Orphanage, another Del Toro produced horror, then we are in for a treat as Andrés Muschietti is in the director’s chair this time around.

And we have some new clips from the movie for you to check out:

Jessica Chastain leads the cast and she is joined by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau while we are introduced to Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nelisse.

Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban neighborhood without a trace. Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain), have been madly searching for them.

But when, incredibly, the kids are found alive in a decrepit cabin, the couple wonders if the girls are the only guests they have welcomed into their home.

As Annabel tries to introduce the children to a normal life, she grows convinced of an evil presence in their house. Are the sisters experiencing traumatic stress, or is a ghost coming to visit them?

How did the broken girls survive those years all alone? As she answers these disturbing questions, the new mother will find that the whispers she hears at bedtime are coming from the lips of a deadly presence.

Mama is released 22nd February.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Clips

Guillermo Del Toro is back in his producer’s hat later this year with new horror movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

The filmmaker has also penned the script with Matthew Robbins but Troy Nixey is in the director’s chair for the project.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark follows Sally (Bailee Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring.

Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it.

Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all – is placed in immediate and grave danger.

Don’t Be Afraid Of the Dark is released 7th October. Take a look at some clips from the movie.

Julia’s Eyes Clips

Guillem Morales returns with only his second feature length movie this week… Julia Eyes – which is produced by none other than Guillermo del Toro.

Del Toro may have had to leave Middle Earth and The Hobbit behind but he has busied himself with a whole host of producing projects including Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss In Boots.

The movie sees Belen Rueda return to the big screen – she lead the cast in the fabulous The Orphange back in 2008.

Julia, a woman suffering from a degenerative eye disease, finds her blind twin sister Sara hanged in the basement of her house.

Julia decides to investigate what she feels is a murder case, entering a dark world that seems to hide a mysterious presence.

As Julia begins to uncover the terrifying truth about her sister’s death, her sight deteriorates, until a series of unexplained deaths and disappearances cross her path.

Julia’s Eyes is released 20th May. Take a look at clips from the movie:

Splice Clip

Guillermo Del Toro is taking on another producer role this summer with science fiction movie Splice, which is just one of Adrien Brody’s movies that is going to be released over the coming weeks.

Admist all of the big budget blockbusters that will be coming out way this summer Splice, which is directed by Vincenzo Natali, looks like it’s going to be one of the more interested movies that we are going to be treated to.

Clive and Elsa are young, brilliant and ambitious. The new animal species they engineered have made them rebel superstars of the scientific world. In secret, they introduce human DNA into the experiment.

The result is something that is greater than the sum of its parts: a female animal-human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder.

Splice is released 4th June. Take a look at a clip from the movie:
