Amanda Bynes Loses Her Hair, and Her Mind

Once again, Amanda Bynes has hit headlines but this time it isn’t for a DUI or stripping naked in a stop, oh no, this time she is claiming that she has shaved her head.

She’s not done a full Britney, although it would hardly have been surprising the way she’s going at the moment.

She stepped out once again in New York looking a little worse for wear, in leggings and a puffer jacket with messy long-blonde hair.

The biggest problem, though, was that her extensions were clearly visible, not a great look for anyone.

Due to all the criticism, Amanda took to Twitter to defend herself and told her followers that she has had to shave her head after a stylist fried all her hair.

She wrote, “please post my pics anytime! I had to shave my head because of hair damage from someone @ John Barrett so I’m not loving my paparazzi pics for a few years! I have extensions but you can see them!”

But if we’re being honest, it’s not really her hair loss that’s the most worrying part of Amanda Bynes at the moment.

You just have to take one look at her Twitter feed along with the constant flow of news stories to see that she’s completely lost the plot.

I feel kind of sorry for her, obviously, but she plays up to it. If she stopped picking fights with every publication that posted a bad picture of her or wrote a derogatory story then eventually they’d leave her alone.

Her reactions are too priceless to stop teasing her, and she walks right into it, practically invites people to continue making a fool of her.

She’s constantly saying how she doesn’t need help, but has she seen herself recently? Obviously not.

Hair tips for a glamorous asymmetrical wave

Waved hair is a big beauty trend at the moment, have you even tried it yet?

Here we have simple steps for you to get the look.

Create a glamorous and luxe Asymmetrical Wave with these easy step-by-steps from Anna Chapman, Director at Trevor Sorbie Brighton.

  1. Make a neat side parting with a tail comb, then sleek back the smaller side using Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Volume Hairspray flat to the head. Look in the mirror to get the right balance, as you don’t want to see any hair over one shoulder. Grip this section flat to the head with small grips, crossing over each one for extra secureness.
  2. Take the rest of the hair in approximately 6 big sections and, using a small very hot tong, wrap the hair around the tong starting at the root. Clip in to the head with sectioning clips. Once you’ve finished the last one, start taking out all of the previously tonged sections so that they have a couple of minutes to cool. Then rake your fingers through the waves and brush the hair lightly from the underneath.
  3. To finish, put some strong hold mousse on a large rake comb and lift the front section up to comb through, not taking the comb through to the ends. Spritz the side section with some Trevor Sorbie Beautifully Straightened High Shine Spray for a slightly wet finish.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Karlie Kloss says you can be sexy with short hair

Karlie Kloss took the brave step, many women wouldn’t myself included, and had all of her chopped out just the day before the Victoria’s Secret runway show, which of course she would be featured.

The Angel spoke to People magazine at the launch of the new VS Swim range, she explained:

“I kind of got in the dog house a little bit,” she says, “but they have been the biggest supporters of it.”

“It’s an honour to be the first Victoria’s Secret girl with short hair. There are girls out there with every body type and there are girls out there with every hair type. You can be sexy with short hair!”

Working with Victoria’s Secret most definitely has it perks Karlie explains. In reference to the beauty look they go for:

“[It makes me] feel beautiful, confident and sexy, [whereas for] the runway I probably have my eyebrows bleached, you know? It’s refreshing for me to be a part of something where you do feel beautiful and confident and sexy.”

Hair tips: Taming frizzy hair

The horrible winter weather is still upon us and trying to tame frizz in the harsh cold weather is a job and a half.

Here we have a top hair tip from an expert at Trevor Sorbie.

Anna Chapman Director at Trevor Sorbie Brighton, shares her handy hint.

“To get the best control out of frizzy or naturally curly hair, towel dry hair after washing by scrunching the hair with the towel.

“Next, take the hair in small sections and twist the hair around your finger, allowing the sections of hair to dry naturally.

“Never brush curly hair until you are about to wash it. The Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Curls collection is fantastic at taming frizz-prone hair.”

International Creative Director at Nicky Clarke, Warren Holmes gives his expert tips on how to recreate this look…

1. Dry the hair until 90% dry – don’t toss your head upside down, do it in a controlled manner to keep the parting in place and avoid any frizz made by rough drying. Use the dryer in a downwards direction, making sure the roots are flat and away from your forehead.
2. Take two inch sections of hair starting from the front hair line and working backwards.
3. Using a Nicky Clarke Salon Pro Straightener With Comb, straighten the hair from the roots to ends.
4. Straighten in one single motion in order to close the hair cuticle and create sleek hair. The secret to creating that mirrored effect.

Stuck in a style rut?

Changing our style, hair and appearance is a big choice, and this shows as two-thirds of women admit that they’re in a style rut because they lack the confidence to change their image.

Research revealed the average woman has had their current hairstyle for a staggering six years and 153 days, while nearly half have had the same hair style since they were a teenager.

In fact, one in three said they were suffering a ‘hair rut’, while sixty per cent feel they never changed the way they dress or do their make-up.

The study of 2,000 women found over a third fear they won’t be able to pull off an image change, with many worried about how their partner might respond or whether other women would judge them.

In fact, most women keep the same hairstyle for work and play, with 75 per cent admitting they sport a similar style for different occasions like business meetings, parties or even dates.

And one in ten don’t think their current look is great but have stuck with it for years because it’s what they and their friends and family are used to.

Remington’s Marketing Director, Nikki McReynolds, said: “The results show that many women suffer from a very real lack of confidence when it comes to changing the way they look.

“There’s nothing wrong with having a consistent image that you’re comfortable with, but the findings show that the majority of women would like to be a bit braver and refresh their image now and again.

“It seems the biggest barrier is worrying about how other people will react or whether the new look will suit.

”If bored or unhappy with their current style, women can build their self-confidence gradually by experimenting with small changes, rather than drastically altering their image.”

Eating too much cake gives you body hair

Eating too much cake is bad for us in a number of different ways, it wreaks havoc on our skin with all the sugar, it has fun on our waistline and according to new research, it also gives us excess body hair.

Absolute nightmare. I’m throwing away that slice of Victoria Sponge cake. Right. Now.

We spend a lot of time prepping and priming ourselves to look our best, and that does include removing unwanted hair, amongst other things.

Dr Rina Davison, an endocrinologist from Whipps Cross University Hospital, London, with a special interest in excess hair explains to the Daily Mail the reasons behind the fact that cakes gives us more body hair.

Eating large amounts of sugary, refined carbohydrates, such as biscuits and cakes, may trigger excess hair.

These foods have a high glycaemic index, which means they release their energy quickly and can cause insulin resistance, explains Dr Davison.

Insulin is the hormone that controls blood sugar level; ‘resistance’ means the hormone becomes less effective at lowering blood sugar, so the body has to  produce more of it to get the job done.

A factor of this, may be that the ovaries produce more of the ‘male’ hormone, testosterone, which causes females to grow more excess body hair.

If you wanted a little bit more motivation to keep your hand out of the cookie jar, I think this may be it. Just think, the next time you go out, you might have to hide your hairy hands or even your moustache. And let’s face it ladies, Movember has ended.

How to save a bob on hairstyling this season…

Hairstylist to the stars, Christian Wood, has teamed up with E.ON to create some energy efficient hairstyles this winter.

Looks including natural waves, polished curls and pin curls are all heat and electricity free ways of achieving the hottest celebrity styles just in time for the party season.

“I’m really passionate about saving energy so really want to show the UK how you can get amazing hairstyles without always reaching for your straighteners, tongs or other electrical gadgets.

“There are so many clever techniques out there which can give you really great looks but without the worry of the heat damaging your hair or the electricity adding to your energy bill,” explains Christian.

How to get the look without turning up the heat

Natural waves

Braids are a great classic way to give your hair an on-trend beach wave look. To get this look without turning up the tongs:

- Once you’ve washed your hair, run some basic product through your hair and put it into two braids and sleep in them overnight

- In the morning shake out your braids for beautiful, natural wavy hair

Polished curls

For polished curls guaranteed to turn heads this party season ditch the heat and let nature work its magic:

- Divide your hair into small sections and wrap around large Velcro rollers to create body and height

- There’s no need to use a hairdryer for this look, simply keep the rollers in whilst you do your make-up

- Once your face is painted to perfection, take the rollers out to reveal polished curls that would make Kate Middleton jealous

Pin curls

With the vintage revival in full swing you can create your own 40s-inspired look simply without getting hot under the collar:

- Start at the front of your head working backwards

- Wrap two inch sections of hair around your fingers to form a curl

- Remove your fingers and pin the curl to you head using kirby grips

- Blast your hair for a couple of minutes to heat the pin curls
Leave to set for as long as possible while you do your make-up or the housework. ??If you have the time sleep in the curls for extra effect

Go to bed as usual and awake to perfect pin curls in the morning

As well as his top styles for avoiding heat on the hair, Christian offers his top 5 products to cut down on energy use this season:

1. Dry shampoo

- Washing your hair too regularly is not good for your hair. Dry shampoo is a great tip for giving your do a fresh look and add volume to lifeless hair.

2. Beach/salt spray – Great for creating texture and waves.

3. Serum

- Helps to smooth the hair without using straightners or hot-brushes, which consumer energy.

4. Conditioning treatments

- For a quick 10 minute treatment, you can have hair in better condition, meaning it takes less time to style.

5. Hairspray – Brilliant for up-dos or smoothing the hair out. By holding the hair longer, it means it doesn’t have to be styled as often.

You can also save time and energy with Christian’s styling tips:

- Wear your hair in a tight bun to take away the frizz.

- With celebrities turning to the up-do for the red carpet recently. Go for the popular ponytail, trendy top knots and messy buns.

- If you require straighteners, go for the wider panel version as it will take less time to style the hair.
