For many ladies who were in their teenage years when 10 Things I Hate About You hit the big screen in 1999 this movie holds a special place in their hearts.

Not only it this one of the best teen adaptations of Shakespeare, and there really were some awful ones around the same time, but it’s a charming and funny movie from start to finish.

And yes I admit that the totally beautiful Heath Ledger is also one huge reason why those who loved the movie when it was released, and I include myself in this, still love the movie now.

So when news reached me that a sequel was being planned you can imagine my horror!!!

Now I am not against a movie that is in a similar vein but why it has to be a sequel that comes thirteen years after the original is beyond me, not to mention there is no mention of the likes of Julia Stiles or Joseph Gordon Levitt returning to their original roles.

Now there is some good news in all this Gil Junger has penned the movie, he wrote the original and he is also set to direct according to Variety.

Junger told Variety that the movie was inspired by suicide before going on to say “It is the story of two relatable, ordinary people with normal jobs and normal desires whose seemingly great lives have become unmanageable.

“Two people who go to the same place at the same time to end it… Their chance meeting is so awkward, so raw, and so funny, they postpone their intentions and go their separate ways.”

Now I don’t wish to put a downer on the project but the movie 10 Things I Hate About Life is sounds totally different to 10 Things That I Hate About You – at the moment you would struggle even calling it a sequel.

The love for 10 Things I Hate About You endures to this very day, in fact I laughed just as loud when it was on TV last week, and I’m sorry but I am already not a fan of this.
