Cars 2 UK Premiere

No summer would be complete without a Pixar movie gracing the big screen and 2011 sees the return of Lightening McQueen in Cars 2.

It’s hard to believe that it is five years since we were introduced to McQueen and Mater for the very first time… but this summer they are back and are bigger and better than ever.

John Lasseter is back in the director’s chair while Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer have lent their voices to the movie.

Caine was joined by John Lasseter as well as actor Jason Isaacs on the red carpet at the weekend as the premiere came to the Empire theatre in Leicester Square.

Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

Cars 2 is released 22nd July.

Cars 2 looks set to be the biggest animation event of the year – however I have to admit that I’m not excited about it myself having not liked the original.

But Lightening McQueen is back – as is the voice of Owen Wilson – in the John Lasseter and Brad Lewis directed movie.

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2″ when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car.

But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.

Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.
