The best London Fashion Week yet?

Sian O’Flaherty from ShopStyle by PopSugar says Rihanna’s River Island collection, and some spectacular catwalk shows brought some much-needed buzz back to London

As a memorable London Fashion Week draws to a close and moves on to fashion cities new, we look at the highlights – what caused the fashion pack to gasp or shriek, and what are the trends we should be searching for now.

Rihanna’s collection for River Island generated a huge amount of press attention all over the world – but her first foray fashion wasn’t just style and hype over substance. Rihanna cleverly translated her schizophrenic street/luxe style into a highly wearable collection of young and fresh florals and surprisingly feminine street wear. It’s in store from March 5th.

The Burberry show, as we’ve come to expect, was a spectacle for the eyes and a treat for the ears, with live bands playing and a soundtrack again released from the show. We loved the playful use of hearts on shirts and skirts, and the naughty but classy PVC trench coats. Burberry again proved its dedication to bringing catwalk shows to the public through live streams of the shows on Twitter. In fact in total, 21 of this season’s catwalk shows were broadcast live online this season, thanks to a partnership between London Fashion Week, YouTube and Rightster. We also noticed the fashion crowd using Vine, a new app from Twitter which lets you scroll through short videos.

TopShop went as far as to place cameras inside the models’ handbags so viewers had a ‘model’s eye view’ – viewers could pretend to be the model and star of London Fashion Week, Cara Delevingne, at least for five minutes. The show was also live streamed on Twitter and YouTube. In terms of fashion, TopShop really pushed the boundaries of ‘high street’ with a really high fashion feel which demonstrated why it’s a brand loved by the fashion pack the world over.  The TopShop Unique show brought us beautifully tailored oversized coats, metallic leathers, and playful 90’s styles.

The general trends we picked out for the coming seasons are deep purples, dusky pinks, and flat shoes. Yes, the fash pack have ditched the vertiginous heels after several seasons and are wearing either trainers or flatter shoes now so get searching for some 60’s style low heeled shoes. Wearable, feminine and fun – three words to sum up the upcoming season.

Hackney Weekend 2012

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go but I’ve watched along over the weekend and WOW. Personal favourite had to be Jay-Z, and when he brought out Kanye, it was just fantastic. It’s really true, he doesn’t need anything but himself to make it an electrifying show.

Other favourites were Florence, Nicki Minaj and Ed Sheeran but I especially liked Tinie Tempah, he’s been away for a while but he was brill, really got the crowd going and I couldn’t help bouncing around my kitchen to it.

There was big talk around Rihanna’s performance and as usual, she came out partially dressed and then let a member of the audience play around with her bra, but despite this I actually enjoyed her show. She isn’t the best singer, in my opinion, but her songs are catchy and she does work the stage incredibly.

I love Lana Del Rey, she dresses beautifully and I wish to God I had her hair. I loved her album, it was on repeat in my car for weeks and weeks, but when she sings live, I can’t help but cringe a little. Her set at Hackney was no different, and it completely pains me! Sometimes she had it so right, but when it’s wrong, it’s very wrong.

I don’t think they’ll top it next year, it was a great weekend and had arguably THE biggest names in music headlining, doesn’t stop me yearning for the next one to come round quick!

Rihanna’s Love for Cheryl

Not only has Rihanna been getting naked, again, this time she’s telling the world how much she would love to watch Cheryl Cole bend over.

Right Rihanna, we get it, you’re cool and alternative and might like girls but might not because you’re mysterious like that.

Now, I have no problem with girls have girl crushes, mine is Mila Kunis for example, but I just feel like Rihanna does it all for the publicity.

Cheryl’s already admitted that her girl crush is Rihanna and so it just seems that Rihanna is saying it back to trick young men (and most likely old men) into thinking her and Cheryl might actually happen. Rihanna, get dressed and quit the publicity stunts, they’re getting lame now.

Rihanna Stripping off, Again.

I’m all for singers dressing however ridiculously and wildly they want to, if they can actually sing, so I’m getting a bit sick of Rihanna getting everything out when she’s on stage and shaking it all about.

I liked her so much better when she was cool, dressed well and wasn’t cutting coke of her bodyguards head.

It’s like she’s trying so hard to be in the gang of cool kids at school that she’ll do anything to get there.

What sparked my little rant off was her attire on American Idol last night, she was wearing a bra, hot pants and a barely there skirt.

Don’t get me wrong, she has the figure for it so I don’t blame her for wearing that, but I get the feeling that it’s all a mask for the fact that she can’t sing live so, in order to put on a good show, she gets naked.

She needs to take some tips from Lady Gaga, I know she wears meat dresses but, man, she can sing.

Rihanna’s second capsule collection for Emporio Armani

Rihanna and Emporio Armani is a collaboration that works well, do you remember her Grammy’s dress?

And her second capsule collection for the brand is faring no different.

Whilst it may be a world away from the clothing we usually see the singer strutting around in. It’s a casual line that we can wear everyday.

The 24-year-old pop star has designed a new collection of slouchy shirts and shorts, shoes and accessories as well as a distressed denim boiler suit and biker jacket as part of her second foray into the fashion world.

Three sketches have been released by the fashion label however a release date is unclear.

Rihanna in Emilio Pucci for Battleship Japan première

Rihanna attended the World Premiere of her new film, Battleship last night and she made an entrance on to the red carpet rocking a pyjama-like look.

Now, you’re either going to love or hate this style and I have to say that I absolutely love it.

If anyone can wear this trend it’s Rihanna.

Pyjama-style clothing is right on trend at the moment with the high street having their own more affordable versions of the designer ones.

The blue and gold Emilio Pucci suit looked stunning against her bronzed skin and thankfully she opted for understated nude sandals to stop it from being too fussy.

She kept the rest of the accessories minimal too, wearing delicate gold jewellery, gold eyes and matching gold lips.

She is simply glowing.

Battleship Character Banners

Taylor Kitsch seems to be kicking some ass no matter what movie he is in at the moment as he moves from John Carter to Battleship.

Yes this summer movie may see the actor remain on earth but he still has alien life forms to deal with as he battles to prevent an invasion.

But he would be fighting the invaders alone as he is joined by an all star cast that includes Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård & Rihanna, who makes her big screen debut with this role.

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. 

Inspired by the Hasbro classic navel combat game the battle for earth begins at sea.

Battleship Images

Who would have thought that a board game would be adapted for the big screen? Well that is exactly what has happened as Battleship sails into cinemas this summer.

The movie sees Peter Berg back in the director’s chair and he has assembled an cast that includes Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Alexander Skarsgard, Liam Neeson and Brooklyn Decker.

Battleship follows a fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.

Battleship is released 11th April. Take a look at some new images from the movie:

First Look At Rihanna In Battleship

In the last few years more and more singers have made the transition from music to movies and this year Rihanna is going to join that list.

The Umbrella singer is set to star in Battleship, which also stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker.

The movie is directed by Peter Berg in his first big screen outing since Hancock back in 2008.

Based on the popular Hasbro naval game the movie is an action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

Battleship is released next year. Take a look at Rihanna in action:

Ha HA! Justin Bieber Tries (& Fails) To Pull Rihanna

OMFG, I love this story so much; 16 year-old Justin Bieber (who also has a girlfriend in the form of Selena Gomez) found himself sat next to Rihanna at the NBA all-star basketball game and properly tried it on with her. Brilliant.

First off, Rihanna is like FAR too old for him, and secondly, when she has Colin Farrell texting her all manner of sauciness, what on earth is she going to see in a floppy-haired little boy?

Good on him for trying though, he seems like one of those arrogant little kids who think because they’re popular, they can charm their way into any womans pants – but obviously once he get’s there, he’d have a little panic and have to get his mother to bring him an inhaler.

Justin, Justin, Justin…. Just go back to school and get off my radar.
