Christians do not follow the Old Testament to the extent it is superceded by the New Testament.
That said, why is it "not smart" to prohibit the eating of shellfish given that shellfish live by acting as filters and retaining toxins that cause serious medical conditions, including but not limited to hepatitis? |

Do you follow the letter of the law today?
Never committed any crime whatsoever that had been made by the local government?
I doubt it.
But I am sure you have never murdered anyone either.
Thou shalt not kill.
Do we throw away the Bible and thou shalt not kill because of shellfish? |

The Bible teaches about hating the sin, but not the person doing it.
You can be friends with all kind of people, but stand firm to your principles and don't join in with an activity that you are not happy with. |
