been thinking maybe i was a little hasty to think that religion was made up by people trying to control others... and have been considering more if there really is a god ...but if there is a god then who created him? isn't he mean't to be the ultimate creater

if there is a god how did he come into exsistance?

Your question is unanswerable.

It's a stupid question actually.

Only because you cannot provide an answer.

Atheists can!

There is no god! He/She/It/The Cat never existed to be created.

It's one of those questions the religious fear. Because nothing they can say short of "god does not exist" has any shread of credibility.

If only people would realise that religion itself has no credibility on the same basis!

How did the infinite universe come into existence, Colonel?

How was infinite matter created from nothing?

I'll provide an answer to that if you can provide an explanation for how god existed to create such a universe.

In other words, if god has a creator he is not supreme, and then who created him, and him before it, and him before that?

It's a stupid argument simply to say "how did the universe get here then?"

I've no idea! But until you can answer how god got here to create the universe, your argument fails.

I admit I have no answer. That's why religion is called a "faith."

But surely science should have an answer. If it doesn't, then it is no more valid than religion and it certainly does not invalidate religion.

So you admit that religion is guesswork? That is it based on ZERO credible evidence.

Science can explain it. The Big Bang. It may not be the complete answer, but science has provided more truth in 100 years than religion has in 2000 years.

The fact that God is a being who is omnipotent, omniscient, and wholly good means that He could not fail to create the universe, because if he did not create it he would not be God. God, being omniscient knows that it is a better state of affairs that the universe exists than its not existing. Being omnipotent he can create the universe. And being wholly good he would do whatever was the best thing possible. Therefore, because of His very nature He had to create the universe. Of course this argument rests on the premise that it is better for the universe to exist than for it not to exist. If we forget about God for a minute, this premise would be open to debate, because if God does not exist then the existence of the universe would be a value-neutral fact. The universe would just be there, the result of physical processes without any moral reason for it being here rather than it not being there. Without God, the claim that it is better that the universe exists is a moral claim about what we think and some people may disagree with us.

But because God is wholly good, morality already has a foot hold in an explanation of the world. So for God to fail to create the universe would mean he does not do something which was the best thing to do.

This however only explains why God created something rather than nothing. There is a related and equally important question why God created this something, this universe rather than some other world — assuming of course that He could have created a different world. Again perhaps because of his nature he could not have created a world different from this one, perhaps to use Leibniz's term this is the 'best of all possible worlds'.

Oh, you mean the unproven theory that the infinite universe was created randomly from nothing by a "big bang."

The "Big Bang" theory is no less "guesswork" and no less far-fatched than the existence of a metaphysical hiher power, God.

Ask any scientist what are the scientific odds that there exists in the infinite universe a life form more advanced and more intelligent than humans, and that scientist will admit the odds are that there is.

That's God.

And the scientists who made the major advances in science believed in God (e.g., Einstein).

There is a God, and he is in the make up of all living things. Nature itself. There has to have been intelligence to have created intelligence. If there was no God, how was a monster like Colonel created? To teach us that there is a higher intelligence. Smile
