Lubrication

Postby Margaret68 on Thu Jan 27, 2005 8:41 pm

I'm in my fifties and have recently gone through the menopause. It wasn't too bad compared to some of my friends but I now have a problem that my vagina is a bit dry and sex is uncomfortable. We have tried a few creams, oils and jellies some of which help more than others but annoyingly some of the better ones tend to sting me a bit.

Any ideas from more experienced ladies?

There are three main types of lubrication.

Oil based - Works well, but will melt some plastic types of toys. It might also cause some irritation and infection. Using too much will cause lack of traction. Tastes oily, but some flavorings are quite good.

Silicon based - Works well, interesting feeling of slickness rather than a lack of traction. It will melt silicon toys into a sticky mess. Might give you a bladder infection, like oil based lubes can. Taste is usually bland and uninteresting.

Water based - Works with any toy and unlikely to cause infections. Don't use cheap department store lube; Buy a lube made specifically for sex. Cheap KY types will break down quickly and stop working just when the sex is getting real good. Taste is generally good and holds flavorings well.

Hope this helps.

Yes, KY stands for Krap and Yuck (try tasting it). I use Maximus which is water based and very good. Its not cheap bou can but it in small sample sizes as well as a dispenser - a bit like hand soap, and very usefull as its easier to just press a plunger when you want more than to struggle with slippery hands on a bottle and cap. You only need a little and apart from vagina lubrication it is really nice for clitoral stimulation, hand jobs on cocks and Anal sex. One little blob of Maximus and you can really massage his prostate!
