Hot Nights

Postby Loopylou-99 on Sun Jun 11, 2006 9:56 pm

What are you putting your little ones to bed in these hot nights? It's 25C in our youngest's ( 8 yrs) bedroom right now (9:50 p.m.), and she has just demanded to sleep in her birthday suit tonight. We don't have a problem with that in this heat, and fully expect that big sister (aged 11) will want to do the same once she finds out when she gets home from her friend's in a few minutes. What do the rest of you do? Are there any of you whose kids sleep nude all the time - it would be nice to get some feed-back before our two decide to become full-time nude sleepers.

We found ourselves facing this one at the weekend, too. Our youngest (why is it always the youngest who are the most precocious?) announced thatsince the hot weather started her best friend had stopped wearing nightclothes, with her mother's encouragement, and that she was going to do likewise. Didn't seem much point in standing in her way over this one - there are much more significant battles to fight in life. Needlss to say, teh rest of our brood followed suit once they got wind of the development. I suppose there's a bonus. We probably won't be buying any more nighties and PJs.

kids sleep nude

Postby Caracarter on Mon Jul 24, 2006 10:14 pm

We have five kids (three girls and two boys) ranging in age from 15 to 6. We live in New Jersey (USA)and can have some very hot and humid weather. Our kids have slept nude for years (starting one hot summer ten years ago) and have liked it (actually prefer it). They sleep nude year around. We have some house rules like nude only in your bedroom or in the bathroom (although they do "run" between their bedroom and one of the baths). It works for our family and everyone is comfortable. I think the important think is not to "force it" but if it is natural (sorry for the pun) then let it be and enjoy! They are only kids once!

Our children are 7, 4 and 3 and will not wear pj's at night at the moment due to the hot weather. We don't have a problem with this and they get dressed as soon as they wake up.

We are in Yorkshire and cant sleep at night for the heat at the moment, the baby (4 months) has just a nappy and cotton sleeveless tshirt on, my little boy (6) will on sleep in his boxers and my daughter (8) will only sleep in birthday suite, but she has stipulated that we enter her room on pain of death, which is cool, she is a shy girl and we respect her privecy but it is soooo warm i cant sleep myself.

Hot NIghts

Postby LauraB on Mon Sep 18, 2006 10:33 pm

Up until now, our kids have generally slept in PJs/nighties, but after the hot summer we've had here in the UK, DH and I don't have any issue with them sleeping nude. After the first couple of really hot nights, we told them that they were now old enough (girls 9 and 7, boy 5) to choose what to wear to bed each night, provided the choice was from PJs/nighties, underwear or birthday suits. Jeans and school uniform were most definitely out. On the first night, with bedroom temperatures well over 25, our recommendation of birthday suits was universally and enthusiastically taken up and despite the cooler nights recently, nobody has even considered either of the other two options. Playground gossip during the first couple of weeks of the new school term suggests that our youngsters weren't the only ones introduced to the benefits of sleeping nude this summer, and bedtime conversations, with our older daughter in particular, suggest that lots of households, ours included, will soon be donating unwanted childhood nightwear to the next jumble sale. The funny thing is that DH and I have been sleeping in the nude since long before we were married, and have never made any secret of this as far as the children are concerned, yet not one of us has ever questioned why the children dressed for bed and we didn't!

And that's exactly what hapened. None of our trio ever went back to wearing their old nightclothes, and a large bundle of PJs and nighties went to the charity shop. Two years on, all three are still committed nude slepers, and as far as we can tell, so are most of their friends who come to sleep over.
