Cerazette

Postby Nikki1 on Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:46 pm

I have been on Cerazette since just before Christmas. I switched from a combined pill as I was worried about the risk of DVT, although I don't have a family history of this.

I can honestly say I have felt rubbish ever since I started it. I have been under some stress recently and had put all my symptoms down to that but I am wondering whether this pill is contributing.

I am tired all the time. I literally have to drag myself out of bed every morning and fall asleep really early in the evening. My skin and hair have been dreadful. My hair is really greasy and lank all the time and my skin is covered with spots. I have never had spots on my back until now.

I hadn't had a period the whole time I have been on it but yesterday I did have a small amount of brown spotting which I thought unusual. However that has gone now.

Is this normal for this pill or is it just me being stressed out? Or is the pill contriubting to my stress?

Hi,

I'd been on Yasmin for 2 years, the only pill in the world I'd been on and lost weight. Loved it. But started getting migraines during my migraines after a year. GP advised Cerazette. I said I didn't a pill that gave me acne or made me put on weight. He said it wouldn't.

1 month later and I have acne and have put on 4 lbs. So I have stopped Cerazette completely and went back to Yasmin (will have to work out what to try next).

Also on Cerazette, I had spotting, very sore breasts and nipples (?!! never had that before!), a burning sensation in the groin every now and again and blooming big spots (usually have clear skin) which leave a scar. Hate it.

Been off it for 2 weeks now - anyone ever lose the weight that Cerazette made them put on? How long does it take?

Also - anyone else ever solve menstrual migraines? nothing works on mine and they get more severe each month. Have tried beta blockers, sumatriptan etc etc.

Cerazette - never again will I take these tablets

Postby Helwil on Mon Mar 31, 2008 10:09 pm

I was prescribed Cerazette basically to try and stop my heavy periods and relieve some of my pre menstrual symptoms. What a joke! I bled more or less constantly for just over 3 months, had awful mood swings and also severe anxiety. I also noticed after a couple of months that I had a headache every day. The exact same headache, always on the right side of my head and the skin on my head was actually sore to touch. Wierd. I also developed itchy dry patches on the skin around my hips which I have never had before.
Went to see the Dr after 3 months and she said that things should now start to settle down. Lasted another 2 weeks with constant bleeding and headaches getting worse and came off it. This was 2 weeks ago. Feeling much better although still getting slight headaches but I have finally stopped bleeding. Hooray! I would be interested to know if anyone else experienced the kind of headaches I described, as they were awful. Thanks x

I have been on Cerazette for 4 years and have had no periods in this time apart from when i purposely com off it - which has been twice for various reasons - 1 being taking antibiotics. I too am worried about not having a period but my doctors tell me this is fine - however surely woman are supposed to bleed?? I have not gained weight or got acne or anything else - its actually the perfect pill for me - but the lack of period does make one wonder!!

Would be interesting if everyone could put their age on their posts, to see if the older ladies are benefitting more from this pill then the younger ladies :)

cerazette - my experience

Postby fifi_2008 on Thu Apr 03, 2008 2:29 pm

I started cerazette in August after being on/off microgynon since I was 16. Im 27 now & this time round the FPA prescribed Cerazette due to high blood pressure. It was the first time i had been prescribed a POP & I wasnt used to continuing the pills everyday without a 7 day break but I decided to give it a go.
The first 3 months I had no period or spotting at all, however I did develop spots on my chin which I have rarely ever had, and having always had good skin, this was a cause of concern. After the intital 3 months I went back to the FPC for the nxt 6 month supply & asked about the bad skin, the nurse said my skin didnt look bad, but just give it a while to settle down.
The 4th month I began to get spotting, it was very light, not enough to use a tampon or even call a period but just slight spotting. I had taken a course of antibiotics and the spotting started after finishing the course, i think from reading the leaflet the antibiotics do have an effect on the effectiveness of cerazette, so ladies maybe think about this if you're on any antibiotics. The spotting lasted a few days, then went away for a few weeks then came back again for a further few days then went away etc.... This lasted about 3 months, with it slowly disappearing over the months. My skin also cleared up, by xmas it was pretty much back to how it was, which was a big big relief to me.
Im now on my 8th month on cerazette and the spotting has totally disappeared (fingers crossed lol!), the last time there was any spotting was January, my skin is pretty much back to normal, however I do get the odd spot on my chin every so often - but that could be down to lots of things lol! I did feel more tired than usual around the 5th/6th month of being on cerazette, tho Im sure sure if it wasnt down to other factors in my life.
I've noticed how some women have mentioned weight gain, I have actually lost weight - almost 3 stone since December - tho its also due to diet & a lota nasty exercise lol! Tho like many others I am concerned about not having any bleeding at all, possibly for years if I stay on cerazette & what long term effects this may have on my fertility as I do not have children & would like to have them in the future. The only other concern with no bleeding is thats its impossible to determine whether I may be pregnant every month as no bleeding is now the norm, its a bit of a pain to have to think about buying a pregnancy test every so often, although the FPC did test me after the first 3months when i told them I hadnt had a period - and it was negative.
All in all I think it is a good pill, however it took longer to adjust to than the combined pill. I found that sticking with it has paid off and everything seems fine after the inital few months. The no period thing is def a bonus, even tho i have concerns about it.

moodymands wrote:I have been prescribed this pill, not for a contraception as my husband has had a vasectomy, but because i suffer with depression and i am sure it is linked to my periods. My mood changes are so bad that i just cant cope so i am wanting to stop my periods and see how i go. Has anyone else used this drug for this purpose and did it work?

I am slightly concerned as they say that i might just bleed, when ever and then stop and then start again. I suffer with TSS and hate using ST's so i really hope i dont get this. Any info from other users would be appreciated. Also do you put on weight????????????

I've been taking it for a month, had one day of spotting last month, and no period so far this month. However, I'm far less moody, haven't gained any weight, and am finding it fine to take, I can't take the combined pill ad so this is the first pill I've been on. It has been fine for me so far!

cerazete

Postby Guest on Mon Apr 07, 2008 10:21 pm

HI
I stopped taking cerazete because i couldnt stand the constant headaches, feeling sick, breast tenderness etc. However a month down the line after stopping this pill I still have really sore breasts, pelvic cramps and a ridiculas amount of hair loss which i find disturbing. No one wants to loose their hair. I don't know why I am still having side effects, does anyone know how long it takes for them to stop?

unbelievable breast tenderness and bloating

Postby sunsummer68 on Tue Apr 08, 2008 2:10 pm

hi -

I have been on Cerrezette for about a month now and really starting to get worried. I was on Microgynin, but was taken off as they were triggering migraines. I don't get migraines all that often, maybe once or twice a year, but they were definitely coming much more regularly.

since taking Cerrezette - I have had 2 really heavy periods where I was changing tampons up to 4-5 times a day, something that I have never had happen to me adn also have been experiencing some mood swings.

I am now due for my regular period, and am getting all of the usual symptoms, but times a million. I am usually a smaller person, I work out regularly adn try to eat a healthy balanced diet - but I am extremely bloated at teh moment and my breasts are so tender that it hurts really badly when my arms brush the side of them.. The breast tenderness is something that I have NEVER experienced before and I am really worried that the bloating is actually weight gain.

I have spoken to my doctor about this and she says that its normal adn that I should just give it time to settle down. I have only been experiencing the bloating, breast tenderness and moodiness and none of the other symptonms - and really don't want to either.

Is there anyne else that has really sore breasts? Is this just something that happens during the menstral time?

After reading a few of the comments on this page, I am seriously thinking of stopping and finding an alternative.

cerezette

Postby yve on Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:28 pm

Hi all just wondering if any of you girls have suffered the same experience coming off cerezette. I been on different pills such as logynon, coil (have no children yet) but have used the pill for 15 years due to heavy painful periods etc. Last year in may i had the coil removed and the doctor suggested cerezette. I was on it till 3 weeks ago and decided to come off it to get my body clock working normal ready for having children in the near future. Problem is that i have not had a period but gosh have had period pains for the last 5 days which have been really painful but no bleeding. have done 2 pre test that were neg.
can anyone shed any light on this matter???
thanx

I was on this pill for 2 years, in that time I went from a size 12 to a size 16 and my boobs went from a c cup to a dd cup. I didn't have a single period the whole time.

I also found that my sex drive went dead and that I was feeling really unhappy and uptight most of the time.
I came off the pill 6 weeks ago and still have not had a period, don't know if I should be worried?! My partner had a vasectomy a couple of months ago so all should be fine really. Especially as we already have 5 kids!!
