I know the feeling.

I got a major fault on my first test for hesitation.

It happened when I approached a junction. There was another junction opposite, and a cyclist waiting there. The road cleared, so I got ready to move forward, but the cyclist made a movement as though he was going to ride out as well. Of course, I didn't want to run him over, so I didn't move, but the rider stayed where he was. My instructor saw this as me hesitating, and gave me the major fault. At the time I was really annoyed. Was I meant to drive on when I thought the cyclist was coming out from his junction, and knock him over? As it was, I had another deserved major fault earlier in the test, but I think had it not been for that, I would have disputed the outcome.

That all aside, on my second test, I approached a junction, and was about to drive forward when suddenly there was a car there. I had to slam on the breaks, and all the instructors stuff went flying. I thought I was doomed - especially since my test was on the last day of the month, and I had heard that no one ever passes then - but I got through it. :) I've now been driving for a year. The best advice I can give is not to panic. I know that's easy to say, but I think because I thought I'd failed already, I wasn't so stressed.

2nd time lucky.

the instructor had probably made his/her mind up, before this- they have duty to keep dangerous drivers away from the licensed nutters!

i guffed up 1st time (toofast approaching junction), but breezed through 2nd time - get as much practice in as possible, and think 'further ahead; on the road.

Just dont give up thats the main thing. I passed on my 4th attempt  :P

I failed my first on reversing round a corner.

My second i failed b4 i even left the test centre carpark as i'd ballsed up my reverse park in parking bay.

My third i failed for speeding

But passed on my 4th.

Keep at it, you'll really regret it if u give up.

Not sure if its still going but there used to be a web-site called 2pass which was really helpful for learner drivers, try googling it. You'll get lots of advice and chat from others in the same boat (or car) as you!!

Failure

Postby Guest on Tue Aug 15, 2006 4:59 pm

I failed my 1st driving test at 12.35 today. I was hoping for a middle aged man (because thats what my instructor is) and what did i get - a jobs-worth 20-something Woman!

Apparently i didnt 'check my blind spot sufficiently' so 3 minors made one major. Then i had a major for not looking enough in the 'turn in the road' . Absolutely gutted  . Booked another one but its not until oct. Wouldnt be as bad if i had failed it on something major or if my driving had been way bad. Its the fact that it was obversation-that i could actually do! im more worried about the next time now.

I have failed 3 times
1. "poor observation" was the reason
2. I wasn't accelerating fast enough onto the expressway
3. "interupting traffic" while getting onto an on ramp i actually got into an arguement with the examiner not because she failed me but because I didn't like the tone of voice she was using she was also patronizing me talking down to me like I was some 2 year old

im gonna get more pratice then book another test what more can i do im actually not a bad driver but it's the nervousness that gets me

There are a few that make passes and its quite unethical to do so. Make it clear to him that you are there for instruction on driving. That you are very happy with the instruction you are receiving and that that all you want and nothing more.

If he persists, find another instructor and/or make a complaint to his employer and request a different instructor. Not sure how it works in your country, but if you get no joy with the driving school, in some countries instructors have to be approved by the licensing body and that approval includes an ethical standard, so call the central office for license testing and talk with their equivalent of a complaints/compliments department.

Hey Kelly

Don't be too hard on yourself. There's barely a set of mags out there that licenced drivers haven't scraped on the kerbside - including the cops and examiners!
