I highly suspect that a lot of the different people on her are the same person, but whatever.

Im a guy, 22, in the US and i love to go barefoot. I seriously dont see what the problem is with that. I am self conscience about doing it in highly populated areas like at the supermarket or anyplace public. In fact, this past Tuesday evening was the first time i've done it in public ever. It felt great and i'm not sure if anyone even noticed.

I drove far away from where i live for fear of being seen by someone i know. I went to Target to buy some cheap protein bars that they have, then i went to the market to replace some salsa that i stole from my brother and finally i went to the book store.

I only spent a few minutes at each place because i didnt want to get "caught". although i spent more time at the book store because i started to read the book that i ended up buying.

all three locations were in a big shopping compound that had security and i swear i think the security guy was following me :P

Before this, i'd only gone barefoot at home. I used to live in an apartment complex where the mail box was in the center of the property so you had to walk to get your mail. i'd always done that barefoot. it had a computer lab and a small gym and i'd go barefoot there as well, but only at night so as not to be seen.

I guess i just have the general fears of being socially rejected. Especially since there aren't any other people nearby that go barefoot as well, so i have no one to identify with.

Random thoughts :P

By "guest sections" do you mean people who post as a guest instead of being registered?

Yes, I think that is what Alf means. I never go barefoot, preferring instead to wear my Heels.

Watch out! If you get arthritis in your foot, wear something when you have an X-ray, which involves pressing your foot against the X-ray plate, or you may catch a Verrucca from the previous patient!
All healed now, but beware folks.
The Verrucca lurks for those who tread bare.
God bless from Colin.

Bare feet

Most of my life. As a child I always preferred to be barefoot and was often in trouble at school for turning up barefoot. My mother would send me off wearing shoes or sandals as as soon as I was out of sight off they came.
I went through university barefoot. At one time I would put on heels to accompany my husband to formal occasions but I now (with his agreement) no longer bother. I have not had anything on my feet at all for about 4 years. I also have two teenage daughters who often go barefoot as well (by choice no pressure from me).

I am very surprised anyone could get a verruca from an X-ray machine as I would expect it would be thoroughly cleaned between patients.
Verrucas are not a particular hazard for barefooters. The virus thrives only in damp and warm places such as swimming pools and health club changing rooms. You couldn't get it from being barefoot out of doors.

Havent your feet gotten cuts and callouses from walking barefoot all these years?

Bare feet

Postby Barefoot Susan on Mon Jul 14, 2008 8:00 pm

A few minor cuts in my early years yes but nothing serious.
Now I can best liken my soles to tough but flexible (like leather moccassins) and quite difficult to puncture.
Callousses no never.
Bare feet are quite high maintenance. They need regular checking for any small sharp stones of tiny glass fragments which need to be removed before they work in deep enough to cause problems. Regular pedicures plus plenty of heel balm prevent the build up of hard skin on my heels.

The Verrucca virus can enter cuts and grazes, but some people are resistant to infection anyway.
God bless from Colin.

Hi Barefoot Susan,

Can you tell me a little more about your daughters going barefoot, - where do they do it?

Also, are they still in school and if so do they wear shoes to school?

The reason I ask is that my daughter, who is 15, has recently started going barefoot or just in socked feet outdoors a lot, and I am not sure whether it matters?

I don't go barefoot outdoors, although I really admire those who do. However, I always go shoeless indoors, - not just at home but at friend's houses and other places. I work in a local bank and always go in my stockings feet all day in work.

Now the thing is I have always encouraged my daughter to take her shoes off indoors as well. Again not just at home but when she goes to other places as well. For example at school she takes her shoes off. Also, when she comes to the bank where I work to meet me after school, she always takes her shoes off in the bank, while waiting for me and doing her homework.

Recently though she has started to go barefoot outdoors, for examaple when doing her paper round or going into town. Then yesterday, after she had left for school and I was putting my shoes on to walk to work, I saw her school shoes were still at the door. It turned out she had gone to school just in her socked feet and not taken her shoes with her?

She says it it more comfy, - should I be concerned about this or just let her do it?

I would be gteafull for your advice.

Suzy.
