Battle Of The Bands 2009

Postby musicmaestro » Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:11 pm

Hey My lovely musical people,

Here at Femalefirst. co. uk we have decided to run a battle of the bands competition on one day this coming summer… and before we start organising things, we would like to know what you, as a super special band (and hopefully an entrant) would like to see from a competition like this…

As we get about 3.5 million visitors per month, and we would be writing about this event up until the gig, and then afterwards as we follow the bands that made it to the final, it would secure a lot of publicity for your band, and as I have contacts in the music business, namely at Victory, Epitaph and Roadrunner records, you could stand a great chance of getting something out of it, even if you do not win.

So below are a couple of questions I would love for you to answer, and if you could email the answers to….

Ruth@femalefirst.co.uk

….with Battle Of The Bands in the subject header, I would be so, so, so incredibly grateful…

1.
Would you be willing to travel to Manchester / Liverpool to compete?

2. What would be the ideal prize for you? We were thinking of getting you debut album made.

3.
Would you be willing to pay £5 - £10 to enter (to cover the fee’s of the extra people we would hire) ANY LEFTOVER MONEY WOULD GO TO CHARITY OR TO A ‘WINNERS POT’

4.
Are you entering any other BOTB’s this summer that would stop you competing in ours?

5.
What do you think would be the best time to hold a BOTB competition?

6.
As one of the final three will be decided on the number of tickets sold - the more tix you sell, the more chance you have of winning - how many do you think you could sell?

Thank you so much for your help, more details will be released as and when they arise.

Hi everyone,

FemaleFirst.co.uk, the celebrity gossip magazine, are organising their very own Battle of the Bands 2009, to take place in the Northwest this July.

This is where you come in.

Being experts in your field and network extraordinaries, Music Medication hoped you would be able to help with some of the introductions. FemaleFirst are looking for your support in getting their mitts on any of the following:

* Possible prizes to appeal to up-and-coming, unsigned bands (e.g., but not limited to: studio time, a support slot, an evening/masterclass with... <insert band name here>, a self-promotion/PR masterclass, etc.)
* Industry judges
* Headline acts to play while the judges make their decisions
* Any other invaluable ideas for things that a startup band would love.

Obviously we know that not all of this will be within your remit but we're hoping that you'll help where you can, and put us in touch with other people where you can't.

I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Kind regards

Battle Of The Bands 2009 Update

Hey guys,

I am just emailing you to say thank you so much for all your help and advice, I thought I would let you know where we were at the moment…

After starting work on this yesterday we have 11 bands who want to take part so far, but obviously we are hoping to get loads more interest as we start to advertise it a lot more. We have decided that the event will take place during the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July.

We also are in discussion with Preston’s 53 Degrees http://www.53degrees.net/ as well as a couple of Manchester music venues to discuss hosting the event there; yet still any suggestions would be much appreciated.

As we currently work in partnership with Orange, they have expressed interest to back the event and as a result, anyone who was to get involved with this project would not only have their brand advertised to FemaleFirst’s 3.5 million visitors, but also to Orange customers too through their portal.

What’s more, we are hoping that an amazing band, The Imperial Vipers will be headlining the whole shebang, so that is obviously going to pull in even more of the public, which is what we love!

So all that is left is to organise the prizes; we have had some great offers from recording studios as well as Kia motors but as you would expect, we are always open to any other fantastic ideas you (or your contacts may have)

Three of our delicious judging panel has also been established and will consist of,

- Alex Waez; a super broadcast journalist and DJ (who will also be responsible for the evenings entertainment),

- Richard Beck, one of the UK's youngest and most dynamic music managers. He's been in the music industry for 18 years, but has already managed acts like Shania Twain, Bruce Springsteen, 5ive, Midge Ure and RyanDan

- John Robb, musician, broadcaster, author and journalist who coined the term Brit Pop.

If you would still like to get involved in any way please let us know, we are grateful of every ounce of help you are able to offer us, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the help you have given us already.
