I have a soon to be 8 year old daughter that wears terrys and pull on plastic pants to bed each night and they are wet each morning. I also know 2 other mums who also use terrys and pull on plastic pants at night with older bedwetters.
Bedwetting is not uncommon at all and a lot of it is waiting for a hormone to kick in that makes our bodies produce less urine at nights. Hnag in there. This to will pass.
You're dead right. It's nothing to be ashamed about, bedwetting usually outgrows itself with time, kids vary some are quicker than others.
Adelle, given her age and amount of urine produced, it might be worth getting children ones _ that are a larger square thicker but still has that 'baby soft touch' as baby brands and use doubles. As you know, it's cheaper long term and more environmentally friendly. If she insists with night nappies for security and comfort reasons, don't enforce them off her as this may make eurensis worse or could make it recur later.
Encourage, if she wakes up bursting with and/or wet nappies during the middle of the night (no matter how bad), take her to the bathroom and let her finish on the loo (even a potty and splashmat in the bedroom is okay). If she needs them in the day e.g. car trips. Don't encourage peeing but get her to hold as long as possible and say that we are almost near a bathroom/home. Chances are they'll still be wet but the hold will help the muscles and the urge which will get less and less. Make a habit of making her use the loo a several points in the day or even if the need is not there or she says her nappies are dry, before bed, in the morning, evening etc. (even if this means taking the dry nappies off and refastening them). It's hard work but you need enough, say for up to four changes a day (everytime they're wet to avoid skin rash). Always sit her on the loo before putting clean nappies on.
Encourgae her to hold and run to the bathroom even when wet so she gets into this routine. Remember she is young, reward her when you see inprovement in her nappies.
My mother trained me and my sister this way, perserve and you'll get there !
