Katie uses Kosikare nappies and we call them nappies and she understands that her nappies are for protection and her comfort and is happy with that.

Katie waking up bursting for the toilet is progress and she will get to the stage where she wakes up with more time to get to the toilet. The Doctor said that her wetting when she stands up is common and we are making good progress that she is waking up more often.

So what age is you niece?
does she wet in the day also?

Katie is a good bit better now...still having the odd accident during the day but much better than she was...I don't think my washing machine has worked that her for a while LOL.

Glad to hear things are on the mend. Hope they can get back to normal soon.
Things here are just about the same. Oldest went to birthday party yesterday afternoon. Must have drank everything she could. I added extra padding last night and a good thing I did as she woke up absolutely soaked this morning.
Do you ever find yourself adding extra padding? I've had to do it for awhile now after a day when they've been to a party or somesuch.

So your oldest was soaked this morning, will she have wet more than once during the night or again once she woke up this morning or does she just wet heavy if shes had a lot to drink.?

Katie never seems to need extra padding but can soak her nappy well especially if she wee's herself in the morning before i get it off her.

katie woke me this morning at 3.30am telling me she was bursting to wee so i rushed her to the toilet but just as i was pulling her plastic pants down she lost control...thankfully i noticed the wet patch start on the nappy and managed to get the plastic pants back up just in time...I felt so sorry for her....but she will get there.

Yes your so right, she will get there as will mine. As for mine I try to watch what they drink after 4:00 PM and make sure they go before the nappies are put on for bed. If they are not at home and have a lot to drink they will be sopping in the AM. They are both sound sleepers and wet heavy when they've had a lot to drink. The younger one like Katie needs no extra padding but the older one needs extra padding on these occassions. This I learned through trial and error.

I let Katie take a drink to bed with her as the doctor said it is better for her to have a drink if she feels she needs one.

I too have Katie go toilet right before her night nappy goes on and then it's right into bed but at weekends and holidays she is allowed to watch TV or a DVD or whatever because she doen't have to worry about school in the morning. If katie is awake a couple of hours after going to bed she will sometimes need to wee and will come tell me so i can take her but i have caught her on the odd occation being too rapped up in a movie and trying to hold it until the end which has resulted is her peeing herself.

Katie wears two terry nappies folded together at night and could probably wet herself 4 maybe 5 times before there would be a remote chance of a leak but that was before the suprima plastic pants .... I think she could just about wee a lake and these plastic pants would keep her protected LOL.

Katie has got her daytime control back to where it was before her urine infection (almost) she wet herself at the shopping centre today (thankfully i had put a disposible nappy on her to go to the centre) she told me she needed so we headed to the toilets but the que was massive and the disabled toilets were engaged too. we joined the end of the que behind an other woman and her 31/2 year old daughter in the same state as Katie dancing to try and hold on....Katie lasted about 2 minutes before she lost it and peed herself but i stayed in line chatting to Emma anyway so i could change Katie. I was amaized at how long Emma's little girl managed to hold on almost 10 Minutes before she wet herself but still 6 people in front of us! Katie could never hold 10 minutes if her life depended on it i think the longest she has ever managed was 4-5 minutes before wetting.

So did you have slightly dryer nappies this morning?

Yes we did wake up with dryer nappies the last couple of mornings. I also agree that the pants work better then anything we've used before. As for wetting outside of night times we have not had problems as of late and so for that I have to give thanks.
Glad to hear Katie is on the mend and soon will be her old self.

Since Katie is using thicker terries 6 months ago, have you gone back and tried re-training her at night. Do you tend to wake her at night and sit her on the potty/toilet and change her nappy or is it sometimes dry at this stage ? if her nappies are just a little damp, she could regaining control. Is this only a night thing or do you use for overnight trips, at home etc.

How effective are Kosikare nappies in terms of comfort and absorbency for her. I heard of them very briefly but in not much detail. Did you have to buy huge loads given the amont of nappy chnages.

What is the significance about using bigger and thicker terry nappies for as opposed to normal disposables for older bedweters ?

Hello guys....I see your point....let me explain

In Katie's situation she has a small bladder for her age so can't make it through the night without weeing.

Katie wears a nappy to bed but she is at the stage where some nights she will wake bursting to go and will try to get up to got to the toilet a lot of the time when this happens she will pee herself when she stands up because her brain is only getting the bladder full signal at the very last second but this is getting better as time goes along.....it will just take time her doctor says.

We are at this stage due to the use of Terry nappys because if she pees herself while asleep she is getting the wet feeling and wakening up and bacause of this her brain has started to link the wet nappy feeling to the need to go feeling and she is slowly but surely waking up more and more before she wets.....we just neet to get a little more warning and i think we are on to a winner. Where as when she wore disposibles (pampers 6) she could pee herself and it would soak into the nappy that well she wouldn't feel the wetness that with the terry's has started the wakening up process.

I would most certainly advise a terry nappy to anyone who has a bedwetter....I have seen Katie come on leaps and bounds since we changed to terry's and plastic pants

Hope that helps answer your question......I thought the same as you when i looked at terry napies at first but i am so glad i took the risk and tried them on katie.

To Death from above and Jes 5. I would certainly agree with Mumofkatie in that a terry nappy and plastic pants do make a bedwetter more aware of being wet when they awake. I have 2 bedwetters and the oldest one has been dry now for 2 weeks and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is over for her. As she got older she started to link waking up wet to waking up sooner after wetting and then while wetting and then she stopped altogether.

I to would suggest looking at terry nappies for a bedwetter and put Suprima plastic pants over them as they are a good quality pant and we've had no leaks with them.

I made the switch to terry nappies about 18 months ago myself, apart from the bulkiness it has made no difference to me I still pee away merrily in my sleep each night totally oblivious.

WOW!!!!! Great News!!!!!

So have you tried her out of a night nappy or are you still keeping her in a nappy just in case for a little longer?

How's the younger one getting on?

Katie is doing okay.....still wetting most nights but waking more and more.

I took katie camping last weekend and we had a great time but the toilet block was accross the field from our tent and i never thought to take a potty or something with us until katie woke me at around 3am needing to pee, I got up and grabbed my torch and we went outside and i then realised that the torch which seemed bright in the house was not much use in a camp site in the pitch black. I decided after about 20 steps and nearly falling over someone elses tent ropes that we should go back to the tent and just let Katie wee her nappy.

The next night i was awake and she woke up bursting to wee and sat up and looked over at me and said i'm needing but then grabbed herself and said oh im peeing myself.....but that happens at home a lot.

I have had two dry mornings this week and that is a first but both nights she has been up to pee and made it to the toilet so not needed again before getting up.
