Hey, I'm 15, and currently have 8 piercings (labret, right side of my bottom lip, tongue, eyebrow, and three lobes piercings plus a cartilage piercing on my left ear). I'm quite good friends with the lady that I get my piercings with, because I'm in the shop a lot with myself and other people, and I talked to her about belly button piercings the last time I was in there, three weeks ago for my eyebrow piercing (I'm getting my belly button pierced in the next two or three days). She had warned me that if someone were to place the piercing improperly, there is a risk that it can cause nerve damage and leave a very nasty scar in the skin tissue, compared to when pierced accurately. The other risks are just the typical infection that can come along with any other piercing, but that is easily avoided by daily cleaning and common sense, as lots of people know. My suggestions; go to someone who has been highly recommended by a fair few of people who've had numberous piercings done before. My piercer has been doing body piercings for the past 16 years, so I feel very comfortable with letting her stick things in me. And, as I've noticed, breathing helps a lot. You may not realize it, but some people tend to hold their breath when they feel the needle go in. Just remember to take deep, slow breaths and ask your piercer to count down, if they haven't already told you they are (my piercer goes: "Breathe in on one, out on two. In on three, and pierce on four.") So I know when to really concentrate on exhaling and then inhaling again. Hope this has answered your question, and good luck! :)[/i]

Hello, I am kind of overweight but nobody else thinks so. So I made a deal with my mom if I lose the weight I want I can get my belly button pierced. I just have a couple of questions 1. What are the two type of rings 2. what are the chances of it getting infected and 3. How long can you take it out b4 the whole grows back.

my ears

Postby growinguptoofast on Wed May 25, 2005 7:24 pm

Hi everyone :D . I'm an 11 year old girl (turning 12 in 5 months). I got my ear lobes pierced at like 4 years old. Then at 10 I really really wanted to get a second hole in each ear lobe, and my parents are really cool 8) , so they let me get them pierced. Now I really want to get a third lobe piercing in each ear. My parents are cool with it, but I'm having second thoughts. People already think I'm growing up too fast with my 4 ear lobe piercings, I really don't want anyone judging me by the way I look. I'm not gothic or anything, I look pretty much normal, other then my 4 lobe piercings. I like my piercings a lot because Its a way for me to be unique (no one else at my school has them). But I don't want people to look at me and judge me as a spoiled brat or anything else that comes to mind  . Should I get them pierced or not? Help fast...I should be getting them pierced today...

hey i recently got my belly button pierced, about a week ago...(May 20th) and im going on a cruise July 9th, and i would really like to change it by then and for the summer, but the piercer told me it would take 3 months to heal! My friend and her sister changed their belly button rings after about 3 weeks after getting it pierced, and its been a year now, and they both look great. I dont want to take a chance of getting it infected, but is 3 weeks a good amount to wait? And how long after getting it pierced do you stop cleaning it?

Help would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

Hey, I got mine done on the 24th! (Yay, us!) And I had asked my piercer about swimming at lakes, public pools, etc., etc., and also how long I should wait before changing it out of the hoop in to a nifty curved barbell that I saw in her shop. She said three weeks minimum, but her clients have had better healing results when they change it between 4-6 weeks after the piercing. You should be fine if you change it in time for your cruise. Yes, the piercing itself does take 3-9 months to completely heal, and you shouldn't be changing it a whole lot during the process, but if you do change it once or a small amount of times, then there really should be no problem.

As for cleaning, the things I've heard are you put antibiotic ointment on it for seven days after the piercing, then STOP. And then just continue to clean it with saline solution, or tea tree soap. I use the tea tree soap. Especially during the time of estimated healing, you should continue to clean it daily, just to lessen the risk of infections. You should definately make sure to clean it thoroughly after swimming, sweating, and or suntanning. I clean mine once in the morning, and then before I go to bed, because as people know, your body does most of its healing while you're sleeping. But I also clean it during the day if there's crust around it that's making it itch. Four times a day is my limit for cleaning.

Hope this has helped!
