I have a 16 year old daughter. Cute. Popular. Innocent.
In the last year the subject of boy/girl sleepovers has come up! WHAT?? It's totally innocent. I see the pictures and the comments on myspace. I have talked to the parents that DO allow it and they are in the home and checking on the kids. They just hang out, play video games, watch movies and then crash all over the couches and floor. It's ususally just friends - no hookups or couples. But still, I'm not sure I want to go here.

I think you should let your child have a boy/girl sleepover, if there are numbers of people there of different sexes , i doubt there going to do it in front of eachother !! teenagers today also need to know that you trust them just make sure you set her/him the groud rules and if theyre are broken then the punishing starts but give you kid some slack !

our older two boys have got a friend each staying over last night it went really well they had pizza, watched a couple of dvds then went off to bed at 10.30pm their light went out at 11.30 & all was quiet by midnight all four boys are still sleeping now (7.25am)

Strangely enough I think they are much more innocent than people of my age (50) were as teenagers. There wasn't so much "in your face" sex or even sex education. We were all terrified of getting pregnant but very keen to get self educated. It was great.

As a child I never realised how different my parents were. We were allowed the occasional alcohol drink, whe i reached 16 and had a party we had people sleeping in the house. Yes mum sent the girls upstairs to sleep and the boys got downstairs. When i reached 18 she made it clear what she expected from my friends but didn't supervise. She expected us to behave, funnily enough we did... kids do if they respect the adults involved and my mum made a point of getting to know all my friends. Thats why she did movie nights and everyone could come from when I was 13-14.

Oneday your child will leave home for college or work. Please don't have her so cocooned that she will be dazzled by the chance of sex and alcohol and get drunk and have sex because she hasn't learnt to say no or to only drink a little. Whores don't know how to say no or understand the ramifications.
