Hi all - I have had my little baby girl ... and am feeding her myself, and doing really well ... i have loads of milk, and she is doing well on it ...
I spoke to the midwifes whilst i was in hospital, and they adviced me to demand feed at night for the first few days, until we both got into a routine of every few hours. our 1st two nights were difficult and not alot of sleep was had by any of us! last night was brill .. we slept between feeds, so were hoping for the same again tonight, and hopfully were getting into a routine.
I didnt like feeding my eldest ... this time, i am quite enjoying it, but i think that is because of the great advice i got from the midwives whilst i was in hospital ...
I am going to go for as long as i can, review the situation around christmas time and see how i feel and how i am getting on.
I feel proud of my self, and the husband feels proud of me too, as i am doing well with it all :D

I'm so glad to see all the positive aspects of breast feeding. Unfortunately, here in the states, it's really kind of hard to find a place to find for breast feeding. Most businesses don't have proper facilities, i.e. a nursing room. Especially eating establishments. I have heard that many larger places are putting in nursing rooms for employees, but what about the customers. Given the number of women that are possibly nursing, you'd think that major malls and shopping centers would put nursing rooms in to attract those customers and advertise that fact. There is the increased business to offset the construction costs. All nursing women should ask not only their employers and their favorite shopping area to put a nursing center in. Best of luck in the future....

There are not many places with a nursing room here either, but you can be discreet. If you wrap a blanket under baby and over your shoulder no one can see anything.
That's what I do. I've been breastfeeding for 9 months now.
i am female.

I agree. It's fully possible to nurse discreetly. I've been nursing my youngest for 19 months now and have travelled quite a bit with him in the last 3 months. I've never had a problem finding a discreet place to nurse and have rarely come across a nursing room to nurse him in. I don't use a blanket to cover up but I do wear a nursing tank top so if I lift my t-shirt up, my stomach is covered by the tank and the t-shirt covers the top area and you can't see anything. Most people don't even realise I'm nursing when they see us.

Back on topic....
Yes you can nurse w/ out just 'plopping your boob out'. I took my daughter with me to my university classes till she was 6 months old and nursed her in every class (carried her in a sling). Also nursed her walking around the store shopping and an employee came up, asked me about the sling as his S/O was pregnant and wanting one. We talked for about 10min and he admired the baby, the whole time she was nursing and looking at him. I wore a t-shirt and a button up shirt over it most of the time. Between those two things and the sling I was not showing skin.

breast feeding is one of the most natural and fulfilling things you can do for your baby.

I know it doesn't work for all women but even a few days worth of breastfeeding is worth it.

I breast fed all 3 of my children, my youngest was 2 weeks short of her second birthday when I she finished. I had got to the stage though where I'd done enough and needed a break but I think she would have carried on.

Well done for keeping at it and that's it's working for you this time.

Yes, I'm still alive. I hadn't been getting reply responses until this one. I guess with not being pregnant and not planning another pregnancy, I haven't been following this board too much. (sorry)

Good luck with TTCing and lots of baby dust to you!!! :D

As good as bottled milk is today, it's no substitue for your beast milk. Your breast milk is produced for your baby. There is nothing better.

I am definately going to consider breast feeding, everytime I am put off the idea I have a dream that I am breast feeding my baby and the feelings I have are surreal! I feel love, warmth. I know it's silly because it's only a dream but it's something I definately want to do. Plus it does give your baby the best start in life also it burns up to 700 calories a day...good way to lose the baby weight!!! :D
