Hi there,

I just wanted to reassure you that brown discharge is nothing to worry about. I know when I was 16 that I worried about all kinds of things like that - new things that happen to your body at that age that haven't happened before. Discharge sometimes has a funny colour especially when it's near the beginning or end of your period. If it has a strong smell too then it could be some kind of infection and you should pay a visit to your local family planning clinic but I would imagine it's just very normal - discharge is actually healthy!

Hope this helps a little - don't worry

What?! As a health practitioner, I would say brown discharge is NOT normal. It could indeed be normal if it is part of your period but if that isnt due and there is any irregular smell there - I recommend booking to see your doctor so she can check everything is fine down there. Tests are painless, and it isnt anything a doctor hasnt seen before. If it makes you more comfortable, request a female doctor.
Legally there has to be more than one person present in the room during these tests anyway (due to allegations of sexual attacks and so on) and it is usually a female nurse.

Dont be worried...if you are still having the discharge and know you are not on your period or just come off/about to go on...or there's a smell - just book an appointment. It's silly to worry about something when the doctor can ease your mind straight away, or let you know if you need treatment or whatever. Could be something and nothing.
Better to be safe than sorry hun!

Ok, well I am having trouble. I have a brown discharge and it has a bad smell to it, I am also expeariencing a bad pain in my lower ab. area. I am not supposed to have my period for about 2 weeks. Am I pregnant? Should I be worried? I just dont like the docter and I dont want to go if its nothing serious. :(

Putting it nicely, if you are not sexually active I wouldn't waste alot of sleep over it! But would still go and see your GP or nurse and get checked over.
I had this when I was on the pill, where by I would 'spot' at different times of the month.

I've had brown discharge too for the past 2 weeks, i've just started a new time of pill so i've put it down to that. I'm seeing my doctor in about 3 weeks so I will report back what they said if anyone is interested
