the contraceptive pill.

This is my first month on the pill, and ive decided that its just not for me,

Im usually a really happy upbeat person but recently ive been crying constantly and been really depressed.

I know I can change my pill but Ive decided its just not what I want,

At the end off my packet im going to stop taking them, due to me only taking them for a month,

and having regular period previous to this,

is it likely that my periods will be effected greatly? or is it more likely for them to just go back to normal since ive only been on the pill for one month

Would appreciate any comments thanks :) :D

side effects from coming off the pill

Postby lady bird » Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi guys
I really sympathise with you and I am so glad I came accross this forum tofind that I am not alone!!!

I had been on Dianette 7 years,(i am 26 yrs old) then came off it as it started to not agree with my body i.e. i was spotting whilst on it.
I then went onto cerazette for just over a month and boy I wish I had not gone on it, it made me moody, and started to make me put on weight, also I had very tender breasts every day
The only god send was that it made my breasts biger!! :D

I decided to come off the pill in jan of this year to try for a baby but I am really struggling with the side effects from it.

I have put on nearly half a stone from the time i was on cerazette till now, i have days where i am quite depresed, my skin has been awful, i just dont know what to do anymore and yes I also feel like going back on the dianette!!

When i came off the pill i had 2 periods in jan and am now over due a week for my next one, although like many of you I hav sore breasts, tummy ache. All the signs of wanting to come on but also the signs of being pregnant and i too have done preg tests that are al negative.

Is there anyone on this forum that has a light at the end of the tunnel for us all!!!!

 [/b]

TTC!!

Postby Shorti » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:49 am

Hey guys,

I'm glad I stumbled along this website, hearing everyone's stories has been great... it's difficult to talk about these things to friends or even doctor!

I haven't been on the pil for long (Microgynon), about 9 months, but after reading loadsa bad stuff about its effects and having experienced weight gain and mood swings (!!) I've just decided to come off it, plus hubby and I are trying to conceive!! :-)

I've had the withdrawal bleed but I'm not sure how to calculate when the true period should be.. does anyone know?

Would be really grateful for any advice! (plus, how likely is it that we'll be able to conceive quickly after being on the pill?)

Thanks!!
Shorti

Is it true that you have to wait until your first true period before trying to conceive and if so, why?

No that's not strictly true.. you can get pregnant before that. People can even get pregnant while still on the pill, so it's possible. Doctors only advise that you wait till your first true period so that you can calculate when the baby is due, but the midwife will be able to tell that from the scan anyway so it doesn't matter.

Stopping the pill

Postby Tulipgirl » Tue Feb 19, 2008 11:29 am

I thought I would let everybody know about my situation.
I'm 30 yrs old have been on the pill for 15 years for very heavy and sore periods, microgynon first then the last year I have been on Dianette
for skin problems. I got married on in Dec '07, decided I would stop my
pill after my 7 day break in January, for the first 2 weeks I had headaches
everyday and felt very sick........... My skin also broke out which was something I was worried about. I started taking Vit B6, my skin cleared up and so did the headaches. I had my first period after 32 days and so far so good, it is extremely light. I'm not sure if its because of the B6
or my body is just adjusting normally, we are hoping to try for a baby straight away so fingers crossed.
So good luck everyone I definitly would reccomend B6, it helps with
hormone levels, moods, skin and metabolisim.

I too have been wondering about this. Shorti, thanks for the reply you gave as it kind of answers my question too, but I was also worried that it might not be safe to get pregnant until your first true period, as I heard it can be dangerous for the baby for some reason. Im guessing this isnt the case?? So, am I safe to start trying to conceive right away? The last period I had was the one directly after coming off the pill.

About the bad skin. I posted something on here a couple of months ago about my past experience when coming off the pill. It was bad! I decided to come off it again approx 7 weeks ago to try for a baby. No "true period" yet, but all the symptoms that you guys have talkled about i.e. sore boobs, stomach pains etc. So far, my skin hasnt been too bad - I got three smallish zits around my mouth area this weekend and a whopper on my chin but they seem to be clearing up. I hope this isnt a taste of things to come - again!!! Worrying about trying to conceive and worrying about your bad skin is not good!

unsure

Postby Katieeee » Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:24 pm

Hi

Im questioning whether to start using the pill, but im worried about it's side effects espescially mood swings and depression...

A friend of mine recently started using it and i have seen dramatic changes in her personality, so much that her mood swing are making her hard to be around...

Because i already find myself getting exremely irritable when my hormones are changing (im only 17), seeing what has happened to my friend has really put me off using the pill.

So i was just wondering if any of you might know... if i try out the pill for afew months and decide its not for me, am i likely to get the negative side effects that people above have mensioned or are these more likely to occur only in long term use??

Id be greatful for any input :D

Hi Everyone

Just read all the recent comments about coming off the pill & found them very interesting.

I'm 26 years old & was on dianette for 8 years. I came off the pill 9 months ago as me & my husband want to try for a baby. I had one withdrawal bleed & nothing since, yes you have read that right not a single peroid or spotting since. My skin has became a total nightmare since I came off the pill, greasy, spots all over my face & shoulder :( it seems to be getting slighty better so I'm hoping that it calms down once my hormones settle. Went to the doctors & have had blood test taken which have came back normal. I've got the hospital next week for a scan to check things are all in order.

It seems to me that everybody is different & I'm hoping that my period will return soon.

I'm not sure if I would go back on Dianette it was brilliant for helping my acne when I was on it but my skin has been the worst it's ever been since coming off it & don't know if I could put myself through it again. I'll report back if & when my peroid returns. x

Hi this sounds just like me. I came off in august but didn't have a period so went to see the doctor. She referred me to a gyno who I went to see in Feb. He gave me the progesterone challenge to see if I was still producing oestrogen. I had a withdrawal bleed so now have to go back to see him 10th March to discuss the next step. I would advise you to request a referral to a gyno as they obviously know much more about things than your doc. Let me know how you get on! I will keep you updated too.

Hi julesie, thanks for your reply, it’s good to hear from people going through the same things. I’ve got private health care with my work so if I don’t get any answers from my doctor then I’m going to ask her to refer me to a gynecologist. I expected my period to be all over the place when I came off the pill but I didn’t expect to not have a single period. Let me know how you get on & I’ll keep you updated also. Good luck. x

forgot to say, the doctor also advised me to raise my BMI as apparantly if its under 20, that can delay period return. Mine was 19 so been eating like mad. Feel very bloated but hope that does the trick.
