Curly hair specialists in London

Postby thatgirlwiththecurlyhair » Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:21 am

Help!

I'm in dire need of a hairdresser that can cut my hair properly without me having to watch them like a hawk and give them a step by step guide from how to wash it, not to brush it when it's wet and the essential need for layering so it doesn't go square, triangular of any other sort of geometrical wrongness.

Hi- I have exactly the same problem, I do not understand how there isn't a specialist curly hair salon in the whole of london! I have never managed to get a good cut here despite trying a different hairdresser every time. The only salon I have found specialising in curly hair is run by Lorraine Massey in New York! (she has written a great book called Curly Girl by the way).We keep being told curls are in, but no-one knows what to do with the real thing!

Did anybody ever manage to find a curly hair specialist?

I am trying to buy a gift for my partner for her birthday, and I am having the same problem and would be a bit happier if I didn't have to fly her to New York for a haircut.....

Girls....I almost don't want to tell you this as I would love to keep this place all to myself but that just wouldn't be fair! Like many of the posters here I searched for years to find a salon that could cut my wild locks until I found the aptly named Unruly Studio...these guys based in Notting Hill are amazing! The owner Michael Price has a particularly good rep for curls, I couldn't get an appointment with him as he was booked up for weeks in advance but was desperate to get my hair cut so agreed to try Anthony (another senior stylist) and was not disappointed. They really know what they are doing here! They gave me lots of advice and recommended a product called Curls Rock by Tigi which is like a miracle in a bottle! Check out their website www.unrulystudio.com

Curly Hair Dilema's

Postby Unruly Mike » Wed Jun 27, 2007 8:31 pm

I have just been told about this forum of women that exists with curly hair drama's. I am the mentioned Hairdresser at Unruly. Firstly I'd like to say thank you to the two women for their nice comments and to every one else, come and give us a try. I had (Until I went bald) loads of curly hair, my family have loads of curly hair and I love cutting it. My team are all wicked at it and we welcome the challenge. Typically it is not just the cut that is bad it is the advice that goes with it that seems to be awful. I pride myself on my curly hair dressing. Come and have a consultation. Hope to see some of you soon!!

nightmare

Postby Curly Curly » Thu Jul 05, 2007 3:41 pm

What a nightmare! I have long curly until I got it cut yesterday. I got home and cried for an hour. I can't even wear my hair down this is how bad it is! I'm always very stressed when I go to the hairdresser because they can't deal with my curly hair. They don't know what to do with naturally curly hair. The hairdresser just kept on lifting it up and cutting more and more even though I told him it was NOT necessary. I now end up with a ridiculously short hair cut. My hair is NOT meant to be short. There are some basic rules that need to be respected with curly hair, obviously not straightforward!
I paid 45 pounds and I look like I have a bowl on my head and a massive scarf or curly hair around my neck....Will have to wear it up for months now....thank you bloody hairdresser! Will have to leave for a year now...I will check out Unruly Studio...

just found all you curly beans ....lol
i so badly need updating with my hair .... i'm very curly , very bleached & long, but starting to look too young for my age ( 38 right now ). I have only ever had my hair cut once and it was a disaster ... i have NOT had it cut since , I'm too scared !!!!!

I'd travel anywhere to get the right result ... well anywhere in the UK :)
