If you felt the need to check his e-mail i'd say that means you DON'T trust him and with good reason it seems. I think you should just tell him what you did and ask about the picture otherwise you will always be wondering about it. It's best to find out now if he is doing anything.

If you break it off with him right now then you won't have to answer for anything and he won't have to answer for anything...it's a win-win situation. Gotta act fast, tho.
