I did a test pathch and all hairs grew back ingrown.

I've read you should do a light scrub everyday (or something), so the hairs can come back through.

epilators are renowned for giving you ingrown hairs - you're better off waxing

What waxing stuff did you use and why didn't it work ?

its more pain than what it's worth! it is really really painful - more than waxing, and it doesn't even last that long. i get a rash for about 2 days after using it, then the hairs are already starting to grow back the next few days. i was under the idea it lasted about 4 weeks, but there is no way it does. and the ingrown hairs, as somebody else mentioned, are a nightmare.

as for using on bikini line - you can but it is just extra painful. some epilators come with special parts to add to it, so that it's easier doing the smaller fiddly areas. mine didn't, but its still easy to use on the bikini line without it.

and don't be fooled by the "now painless" gimics - it's not true.

if you are going to buy one - get one on ebay! saves you paying 60 quid in case you never use it again!!! i paid a lot of money and now regret it as I can't cope with the pain.

however, if you do stick with it for 3 or 4 epilations, the pain does lessen (or you just get used to it!)

i also have a problem with hair removal - i dont have thick hair, but i have very sensitive skin and always seem to get ingrown hairs. and i still haven't found a solution :o(

hope this helps! i will finish my essay now!

I don't know whether you'll be around to read this but...

I find my epilator amazing! You do have to exfoliate to keep the hairs coming back through the skin rather than getting ingrown but it reduces the hair growth SO MUCH!

You won't notice an instant decrease in hair growth but I've been using mine now since I was about 16 and by 18 it had greatly reduced the hair regrowth (amount and rate of growth). I am 22 now and I only have to do my legs about once a month

It's effective on the bikini line but will be too painful at first so you should start using it on legs. Progress then to underarms and then bikini. Although it depends what you mean by bikini because you can't get anywhere near areas of loose skin.

and re: the pain, yes it's bad at first, I won't deny that. However, stick with it and you'll be able to smile like the lady on the advert (anyone seen that?) when you're doing it as it doesn't hurt me even a tiny bit now.

Hope this helps!

It looks a bit like an electric razor as you plug it in and hold it. as you pully it over your skin it has tiny clippers that pulck out your hair from the roots. it can better than waxing because wax doesnt always pull the hair from the root. however waxing is quicker and less painfull.

If waxing didnt work u mite not be doing it right, u cud go to a prefessional a few times and soon ull pick it up.

Yes they are far better than bamboo slivers under the nails. You'll get a confession in minutes.

The wife tried it once. I tried it once. It went in the bin.

Not as effective as waxing and far more painful. I'm supposed to be into pain but not like
that.

Quite the range of advice here......I love mine and have not had waxing for over a year now. They take some practise and you shouldn't get much in the way of ingrown hairs if its done right. The exfoliation is right on, also. I found waxing hurt more and the skin stayed red for a lot longer compared to an epilator. I bought the Braun model.

They work best when the hair is a certain length, not too long or the hair doesn't get removed properly.

well, im the one who started this thread-i bought 2, a philips one (reduced to £20 in boots by the way) and an epilady with shaver attachment and peeling head (cash converters, £12 what a bargain!) yeah, they hurt, but nothing you cant cope with, the first time you do get a bad rash but ive been using it for 5 mins every morning and its the first time in 13 years i havent had a stubbly bikini line (due to shaving) or spiky legs. with shaving it grew back same night (im not joking, i even saw gp about it which is ongoing) but i recommend these to anyone, theyre great!
