Most stores and kiosks that sell earrings will pierce babys' ears as soon as they have had their first immunization shots, normally at three months old. In some areas it is quite common to see baby girls with pierced ears, particularly amongst certain ethnic groups.

Double piercing

Postby Paul M on Thu Sep 11, 2008 11:16 pm

Does anyone else have a partner who is so mad about earrings?

As a male of the species, can I say that I am fascinated by ear piercing and hinged sleepers. this goes back a long time to the early seventies when I would see girls come into school with their newly pierced ears sporting a pair of gold sleepers. I'm not sure where this came from as my mum did not have pierced ears and I did not have a sister. I would hear "XX has had her ears pierced" and the girls would group around the latest piercee. I remember in one lesson a girl called Linda said to her friend that she had to turn her sleepers, wow!

My girlfriend (who became my wife) had pierced ears, and one night having taken her earrings out, plucked up the courage (my heart was pounding at the time) to ask her if she still had her sleepers. She said that they had broken but asked me why I liked them; I replied that they would look like she had just had her ears pierced. Anyway nothing more was said until we went on holiday and having unpacked, she handed me an envelope and inside was a new pair of gold hinged sleepers, which she let me put in her ears. 25+ years on and she will still wear sleepers for me, I love seeing them in her ears and she likes me to turn them and gently tug on them.

She also likes wearing two inch hoops and gold ball studs, and does like me to play with her studs "to twiddle the knobs" as she calls it. I did buy her a pair of piercing studs, but because the post is that tiny bit bigger, I struggle to get them in her holes and she finds it uncomfortable to wear them. A few weeks ago, we went out and she had actually forgotten to put any earrings in that day, and I thought that when we got home I would put her big hoops in, but she came in and put some earrings in. She said later that I should have, I would love to go out with her with the big hoops in, but she said she could not.

She had her ears pierced at a jewellers in 1974 long before the "gun and stud" method of piercing, by means of a device called the Simplicity Ear Piercer which in effect pushed a needle through the lobe and the sleeper is then inserted manually and fastened, other models push the needle and the sleeper in one operation. she described it as a burning sensation when the needle went through. Even back then ear piercing was still rare and she had to make an appointment, I suppose this was to ensure the device was sterile. This is what fascinates me, this method of piercing compared to today's method, back then there were no gloves, no marker pen - the jeweller would just spray something on and then pierce in the place he thought was right. Occasionally, one of the devices comes up on e-bay and always gets sold.

I have asked my wife if she would like to have her ears pierced again but she said no, until last week when she let me put on the spring clip sleepers and suddenly said she would have another hole done if I would like her to. Wow! We've not said any more yet.
She doesn't like men with pierced ears, so I'll never have one done and she doesn't like me wearing the spring clip sleeper. I missed my chance many years ago when I went on holiday on my own to Jersey and stood outside a jewellers that offered "ear piercing - while you wait" which quite amused me.

Our daughter had her ears pierced when she was about nine, and after that most of her friends had theirs done. This was her decision although she had asked about it when she was about 7 but when told it hurt, she decided not to. I would like to have been with her when she had them done but I have seen piercing done quite a few times at Claire’s. When she was about three, I asked my wife if she was looking forwards to seeing J with pierced ears and she said she thought she was, but would take her to have them done if I wanted her to. I couldn't have done that to her little lobes. My wife would not have had them done in the way our niece was taken at age 4 and had her ears shot through, I don’t think she had any say in the matter as her mum had
wanted them done from about one year old, apparently she screamed. Even two years on when we gave her some little hoops she thought it was going to hurt and started crying. I am completely against babies and toddlers being pierced just because the mother (usually) wants it, but that is another argument.

Looking at the web, it seems I am not the only man fascinated by piercing and liking sleepers, there is a thread "Ear piercing before the gun was invented" on Female First.
It would be good to hear of any other husbands who like ear piercing and sleepers.

Hello Paul
I'm like pierced and muliple pierced ears on women too. I was been present at the jeweller when my girlfriend at that time got a second hole pierced, since this expierence, I'm mad about earrings. She tried to conviced me to get my left ear pierced too, but i didn't want to pierce it. Weeks later when i met her, she said she will have a surprise for me and blindfolded my eyes. Minutes later a felt a pain in my left ear. She pierced my ear with a sewing needle an put one of her silver studs in. She convinced me to let the stud in. For concilation she let me pierced her ear too. I was a great event for me when i pierced a third hole in her left lobe. The hole in my ear become raw, i let the hole grow over. Years later my new girlfriend detect the scar on my left lobe and tried to put an earring throught the scar but it failed. At my birthday she gave me an voucher for earpiercing and attend me to the local Jeweller. I got my left ear pierced. My girlfriend got the remining stud in her right ear pierced.
eight years ago i come together with my wife, she doesn't like earrings on men, so i remove the my earring. My wife knows from my preference for pierced ears on women. When i met her first she only had one hole per ear. By the years she got her right ear triple pierced. I pierced an additional hole in her left ear with a sewing needle.

My wife again said she will have another hole done. I put the spring hoops on her last time we were close and she said yes again. I will ask her again next week how she wants to play it - with me there or without me there or the next time we go away together just the two of us.
Of course I'd like to be with her, but she knows how I'll be down below, so we'll see what happens.

Do you like to have multi-pierced ear ?

I had my ears pierced the first time when I was about 17, by my Mom with a sewing needle. Then about 4 years later, when I was in my early twenties, I had my second holes done, the same way. I wore them that way for years, but several years after I was married, when I was about 44 years old, I learned that my husband liked pierced earrings, so I had my right cartilage pierced for a small ring. That was five years ago, and I always wear a ring called a circular barbell through the top of my ear. I've also learned that my husband thinks nose rings are cute and sexy, so believe it or not, so every once in a while, when we're out to dinner, I'll wear a tiny silver hoop as a non-pierced septum ring. I bought it from a jewelry store in San Francisco called Harry Mason. It's actually called an ear wrap, but I wear it as a nose ring sometimes. It's very small and thin, and I wear it wrapped around my septum so that it's barely visible, but up close it looks like I have a very tiny silver ring pierced between my nostrils. It's fun to be a little different now and then, and because it's so small and thin, it's actually quite pretty. My husband likes it too. I doubt I'll have it pierced, but who knows!

Jillian,

I think your husband should take you and have your septum pierced and have a permanent ring inserted!

Re: Multiple piercings

Postby Barefoot Susan on Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:53 pm
I have just found this having put a request for advice and opinions elsewhere on the website. I have just one piercing in each ear (conventional) at the moment and have had since I was 12. My husband loves earrings on me and has nagged me on and off for years to get them pierced again. We have been married for 20 years. He recently bought a home ear piercing kit with some silver plated studs and said that he wants to pierce my left ear (only) just behind the hole that I already have. I know that I could have both done as well (should I?). He has also bought a really tiny gold stud (about 2.5mm) which he wants me to wear.

He hasn't got any earrings and I wouldn't want him to have his ears pierced although this isn't an issue.

Should I let him do it? Is it safe to use one of these kits? Is silver plating OK for piercing with? I'm very conventional and none of my friends wear more than 1 pair of earrings although they used to a long time ago. Is it still fashionable? I'm not sure...

Does anyone else have a partner who is so mad about earrings?
There is no problem with a mature woman having multiple piercings its a matter of personal choice and I don't think anyone can advise you on it.
I have lots of holes in my ears and always wear jewellery in them.
However, if you decide to go ahead I would strongly advise against letting your husband use a home piercing kit on you.
Why not surprise him by going and getting them done professionally.
No way should silver (plated or solid) be used in newly pierced ears gold is OK, surgical steel better and titanium probably best.

Jillian,

If you like the look then why not go for it and get your septum pierced. I'm sure it will please your husband since he thinks they are cute and sexy.
If you want you can have a retainer fitted which will be quite invisible and once it has healed you can wear a ring whenever you feel like it. However, I suspect that once it is done you'll want to wear the ring more frequently and maybe 24/7. I have worn my septum ring for many years and it is never removed. It is very much part of me. Both my daughters also have pierced septums and are hardly ever without their rings.
Getting it pierced will be painful but only for a second or two then your nose will be a little tender for a few days while it gets used to having the ring or retainer through it.
Do keep us posted!

Double pierced or multiple

Postby Guest on Fri May 01, 2009 2:45 pm

What are your opinions about double pierced or multiple (3 in one ear, 2 in the other) pierced ears (normal lobe piercings)? Do you like them? Are they trendy or they trashy? If you have them, or would like to have double or multiple pierced ears, why would you like to have them? If you have them, have you regretted it later and if yes, why? Would love to what you think / your thoughts about double or multiple pierced ears too…!

Dear guest,

Both my daughter and I have triple pierced ears. We both wear gold hoops everyday; largest hoop in the bottom hole, slightly smaller in second piercing & smallest in top piercing. Neither of us has ever regretted having triple pirced ears as we like the look and especially the feel of three earrings swing in our ears!
I would advise anyone considering it to just do it as I don't believe they will ever regret it!

I am male, 29, and am triple pierced in the lobes. When I met my wife I had a single piercing in my left to which another was added to my right shortly after our meeting. I got my doubles a year later and my triples last October. I usually wear silver or gold 1.5" hoops in the lower followed by 3mm balls in the seconds and 2mm in the thirds. After a discussion with my wife in January this year, I went to get my right cartilage pierced and returned with that and a nose piercing in my left nostril. Both were gun-pierced (yes, I know you shouldn't!) with 4mm gold studs. My wife liked the cartilage piercing; hated the nose stud, though, which she thought too big and obtrusive. I persevered, however, and have down-sized the nose to a 2.5mm gold ball stud for day-to-day wear or a 2mm diamond for more special occasions. I think that's me complete for body mods for the foreseeable future.
