from dark to blonde hair

L'oreal has "Excellence Hicolor" its for dark hair only, you can buy shades of blondes. So i would recommend that if you want to lighten up your dark locks.

no one wrote:does any one think that buying a light brown hair color will turn my dyed black hair to dark brown? wil that work or no. how bout if i buy a blonde box instead. not bleaching but haircolor. cuz bleaching is horrible for ure hair.

yea i already tried doing a light brown over my dyed black hair and it only covered the roots. it didnt seem to even add a hint of brown at all to the black. So it doesnt work. im gonna go try a hydrogen peroxide mixture and/or a box of blonde.

lift the dark out

you can lighten your hair from black/brown a few levels by using peroxide(developer) and powdered lightener. Be sure to use a higher level of developer if you have precolored hair. Your hair will lighten with warm shades, such as dark red/brown, red, orange and gold. Its best not to lift it past pale yellow ( the color of the inside of a banana peel) or else it will lead to breakage. If you find your hair turns an orange color, you can tone it by coloring over it with demi or permenant color. IF you want to leave it blonde, try toning it with a pigment that will neutralize the orange, such as blue or violet ( they are complimentry colors )

you should never try to color OVER black, because it won't lighten...ever, without lightener. only your roots will lift, leading to what are known as "hot roots" Thats just not cool. And try to keep away from drugstore color. If you really don't want to spend the money on a professional color treatment, try to get it from the distributor for cheaper and do it yourself. it's not too difficult.

well i was stupid
i threw some blonde dye + developer (and i added a bit of peroxide cause i'm paranoid) on my hair...
and my previously bleached hair that was purple (have now become tips, due to 6 inch roots heh heh) is now ... next to transparent. and the rest of it is well... brown.

im from East India (Not native american) and that means i have BLACK BLACK BLACK hair (except for the purple part), so i'm not exactly sure what i'm supposed to do about this bleaching thing... i washed out the bleach on the previously bleached parts and applied conditioner over it to possibly lessen the effect of the bleach, but i'm not sure if i'm good yet or not...

plus, i got some professional hair color, so it doesn't say how long to leave it on on the bottle. bad choice.

conditioner won't help lightened hair become healthy

you need protein treatments!!!

When you lighten the heck out of your hair, what's happening is you are breaking the bonds that are in the cortex of the hair shaft, not taking color out but imagine this..

you take a beer bottle (dark in color) and a hammer and shamsh away at it until it becomes translucent. THATS what you are doing when you "bleach" your hair.

a protein treatment ( GET " DEEP FUEL" by redken) will restore those bonds and also help smooth down the cuticle layer of your hair. It is essential that you doo these treatments frequently or you will have breakage and your hair WILL NOT hold any color that you put in aftrewards.

also, after you lighten your hair, if you want it only 2-3 shades lighter and more cool tones rather than warm, use a TONER , do not attempt to lighten again. Toners have peroxide in them that can take your hair up the few shades that you want with significantly less damage.

Ive just lifted most of the black color I put in my hair ( which was about 4 applications of black over the past year or so) and My hair is still pretty healthy.

black to blonde

i have naturally black hair. If you buy a bottle of 9% peroxide and mix it with bleaching powder it can get your hair to white, but you have to use deep conditioning treatments or your hair will break and fall out in chunks, and you'll end up with spiky bits, which happened to one of my friends, who has naturally dark brown hair. My hair is now a white blonde and still in soft and good condition.

MAJOR HAIR TROUBLE!!!!!

Postby helpsomehair on Thu Jan 27, 2005 1:05 am

:( wow! do i have a story to tell!! I really really need help BEFORE I START BALDING!! lol well, i have colored my hair for as long as i know now. i have had many bad experienced with the coloring process. a year ago i went to a salon and decided i wanted to try strawberry blonde/reddish hightlights. it turned out SOO bad! it looked as if someone had takin ketchup and streed my hair! it was so bad. well the next day i went back and they had to blech it out and my hair turned out YELLOW! it was so UGLY! well, not so very long ago i had decided to dye my hair from the box (not good) thinking that it would turn out good and cost WAY less than always getting it professionaly colored, so i got a box of blonde color and tryied it out. it ended up turning GRAY and mucky looking, not even close to blonde. the next day i went to get my hair re-done and she fixed it. but my hair is so brittle! i have fine hair and it has so much breakage and i always get split ends! i dont know what to do! i have naturally wavy hair too so straighting it all the time is really bad for my hair! i dont know what to do! i want to grow my hair out long becasue i have never had it long before, my hair is very slow growing! would you have any suggestions? i am also thinking of just going to my natural dark blonde hair color but i dont know how? i dont want it too grow out naturally, it takes a long time and it looks to bad. please help!
