well, last year i had black hair, i had dyed it myself and all cos i wanted to look "gothy" then i got bored and decided that blonde was the way for me... iw ent to the hair dressers and my lady told me that i cudnt go all blonde or else it wouldnt work, but she could lighten my hair with highlights and i could keep getting them built up. so i did and my hair was a beautiful blonde with black underneathe. it looked amazing :D. so u can dye over black acccctually.

brown to blonde

RIGHT, ok if your hairs brown to black and you want to go blonde its simple. Dont go straight to bleaching your hair you have to start dying you hair lighter in stages such as brown go to light brown then to dark blonde then medium blonde to BLONDE! If your hairs black do the same as i just said but go from black to brown to light brown so on... see its THAT simple

How I lifted mine

Postby hairgirl on Sat Jan 29, 2005 9:05 pm

I just bought lightener and a low level of peroxide ( 20 volume or 30), applied it at the midshaft and let it process for about 30 minutes.

then I did two treatments ( one moisture and one protein)

the next day I went back at it and did some more of my hair

did some more treatments and then it was fine.

don't try to get it blonde, just make it like an orangey color and then you can color over it...i know it'll be ugly for a day or two but at least the black will be gone.

You have to pre-lighten your hair, before you try to go blonde or light brown. All dark hair (medium brown, dark brown, black) has red pigment in it, and without pre-lightening you will have very strong gold or orange tones. You could always try a violet/blue based tonner. But i strongly suggest using a pre-lightener prior to applying the light brown/blond hair dye. Good luck with it!

 My hair is originally dirty blonde ive dyed it black and then stripped it and i looked all calico and then i just dyed it blonde again, it was tottally orange it sucked so i just dyed it back to black to cover everything so if you have black hair i suggest going to the hairdresser to get it stripped i stripped it by myself it looked awful...[/b]

I agree that coming to the salon is the best option when trying to go to a lighter color. As i mentioned above when you want to go lighter you have to pre-lighten aka bleach it, and when doing so at home especially on black hair it can turn hair an orange/gold color. You should have done multiple bleaching to remove all the color and get your hair to a pale yellow stage, then tone it to your desired shade. Or COME TO THE SALON and have a professional do it!! Personally i advise the SALON, save your money! One way or another you'll end up with us... Also just a note black hair dye is one of the hardest colors to remove as it contains red pigment!!!

helpsomehair wrote::( wow! do i have a story to tell!! I really really need help BEFORE I START BALDING!! lol well, i have colored my hair for as long as i know now. i have had many bad experienced with the coloring process. a year ago i went to a salon and decided i wanted to try strawberry blonde/reddish hightlights. it turned out SOO bad! it looked as if someone had takin ketchup and streed my hair! it was so bad. well the next day i went back and they had to blech it out and my hair turned out YELLOW! it was so UGLY! well, not so very long ago i had decided to dye my hair from the box (not good) thinking that it would turn out good and cost WAY less than always getting it professionaly colored, so i got a box of blonde color and tryied it out. it ended up turning GRAY and mucky looking, not even close to blonde. the next day i went to get my hair re-done and she fixed it. but my hair is so brittle! i have fine hair and it has so much breakage and i always get split ends! i dont know what to do! i have naturally wavy hair too so straighting it all the time is really bad for my hair! i dont know what to do! i want to grow my hair out long becasue i have never had it long before, my hair is very slow growing! would you have any suggestions? i am also thinking of just going to my natural dark blonde hair color but i dont know how? i dont want it too grow out naturally, it takes a long time and it looks to bad. please help!

i've pulled artificial black form my hair with a product you can get from walmart called,"hair color remover" it's in a dated white box with three ladies on the cover, i believe it's by revlon. however this WILL pull out all kinds of oranges and yellows . the best thing you can do is to leave it on for as long as possible (w/o going bald) follow instructions carefully, and when that's all rinsed and dried, then choose a blonde that has an ash or possibly a champagne tone, color again with the same ash(prefferebly light) in a week or so, so that the color soaks and holds....then as the months go by and you trim and condition your hair you can play with more highlights or even low lights by using a cap.

i color my hair all the time and always get rave reviews.

colouring

Hi Guys

As someone who has coloured her hair a LOT!!!......tint wont lift tint so if you have a dark colour on your hair you can only go darker, not lighter. Even black to brown wont work. also, if you have dark hair with colour please dont try to lighten it with a box colour - even one that says suitable for use on coloured hair. I tried that with l'oeral colour experte last year - the dark colour turned out fine but the highlights didnt lift enough (even tho I followed the instructions precisely) and my hair turned BRIGHT ORANGE - in order to bleach it out the hairdresser had to leave the bleach on so long that my hair broke off. please please go to a hairdresser.
