what do you suggest i use???

i reccomend you use a light ASH brown colour, never use WARM colours on ginger hair as they just enhance the brightness of ginger Ash tones it down i know this as i have ginger hair and have had brown hair for 6 years always worked, use light brown as all medium/dark usually result in ;looking black! you can buy brown eyebrow dye and eyelash kits boots do a good range i personally use a small amount of the hair dye and paint it on my eyebrows with a cotton bud but they do say not to do this on the box so thats up to you x

Many thanks xx

I have coloured over highlights loads of times, always with a brown or red. You just need to make sure you cover ALL of your hair otherwise you will have the odd light bit.

Using a funky colour is good when you colour over highlights because the bright colour will really show up over your existing highlights (if they are bleached highlights). The schwarzkoff (is that the right name?!) live range is good for that - I did mine purple at the beginning of the year!

Heya, i've just had my hair dyed today... i went from a lightish brown with bleeched blonde highlights in places (as you see some "emo's" have it) and it's gone to a reallllly dark brown, and i miss my old style ALOT better... i want to go lighter brown at least, but everyone's telling me (they're not professionals though = )) that i can't go back light brown once the dark brown has been put on!!!! Does anyone know if you can go from a dark brown to a medium/light brown? Or will i be wasting my time and money for yet another hairdresser to ruin it = (.

Thankies! xx

ibe got brown to black hair my mates just told me to die my hair blond, and it looks gorgeous!! seriously just do it. if the blond goes ginger, or even worse green, jus get down to tesco (open 24/7) and by a brown hair dye, and dye it back to normal, trust me thats what many people have done in the past!! just have the gutts to go and get it done!!! good luck, luv ya x x x

brown2blonde wrote:hello, i have never dyed my dark brown hair before and i would like it golden blonde. i also would like to dye at it at home. from what i know about dying dark brown hair to blonde so far is that you need to bleach out the color first, and then add the color (toner) you want your haircolor to become. please reply with any information you have about dying brown hair blonde or any experiences that might help me. i have never dyed my hair before and any info would be great. thanks[/code]

hey, basically im in a different boat to u i suppose but i did dye my hair dark brown and wanted to go light ash brown. they lifted all the colour out nd it went orangy then they used a toner to dye to light brown but it is still strawberry blonde/brown, i think you need to doo that and then have lots of blonde highlights because i have had some blonde highlights put it and it luks more ashy colour now . i am going to get some more blonde highlights put it soo it looks like an oveall colour.x xxxx

My hair was naturally a dark chocolate brown, but I dyed it darker anyway. When I got bored of it I decided to go blonde, I did it all from the box, and dyed it almost in stages. As long as you give your hair a break every so often, be patient and make sure that you condition it properly, you hair will come out to a nice blonde. The color is perfect, just be careful of getting a nice even dye throughout. If your hair turns a little orange, don't worry, that will happen when you do it at home. Eventually you will get it to the color you want.

Guest_Help wrote:there is something else you can do if you have brown die over blonde and want to go back blonde. i cant remember what brand it is but there are pre lightners home dyes and they basically work as a stripping agent. people say that strippers do as much damage as bleaches but this one that my friend used worked great on her hair. the only problem was that she had to also buy a bleach to use after stripping.
Good Luck to those who r going to do this.
